Short-beaked Echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus), family Tachyglossidae, Canberra, Australia
Also called "spiny anteaters".
Echidnas are monotremes, mammals that lay eggs (along with platypuses).
Females lay eggs and keep them in a pouch.
The hatchlings are called "puggles".
