So What Happened?

It’s just their damn luck that Tessa would be reunited with the love of her life under the looming cloud of a supernatural war. Still, she managed to look on the bright side. But let’s not forget, Tessa is a bloodline hunter. She’s been training for this, living this life, since she was old enough to hold a stake.

If anything is true though, it’s that no matter how much you prepare, sometimes you’re just not ready. That’s what it felt like when Founder’s Day hit. Tessa saved as many people as she could and is still doing that to this day. There was no question the Thomsons would join the underground resistance, able to move above and below ground.

There were more than their fair share of devastating hits these past years. Charlotte Lawrence joining the other side--- an act Tessa still tries to understand and sympathise with. Losing Isaiah Jennings... Shelley Pierce...

One thing was clear: Tessa didn’t want to waste another minute not being married to Vanessa Fox. The ceremony was small, quiet and absolutely perfect. All that mattered to Tessa was making her promises to her soulmate. There is no one who loves their wife more!

Both Tessa and Vanessa worked hard for the Resistance, trying to bring down the Bad GuysTM at any corner. When the plan for November 2016 came around, Tessa had her doubts about the plan but they were floundering. Something big had to be done. And then it all went horribly wrong.

It’s been 6 months since then, Tessa working extra hard to keep up morale and take care of her wife. They needed something. They needed help. When Vanessa was assigned the mission outside the dome, Tessa wanted to go with her. But she was needed back in Havensdale. They’d see each other soon.

And then it happened. Vanessa got stuck outside the dome. Now Tessa is doing all she can to figure out how to get her back in, to end this damn fight and free the town. Seeing and speaking but not being able to touch her wife through the invisible barrier is hell. But she’s trying to stay positive.

As a bloodline hunter, Tessa has always respected witches. Historically they have always come to a hunters aid, taking care of them and sometimes even fighting with them. They made the protection jewellery Tessa has worn all her life, been a source of safety and kindness when she and her parents were on the road hunting. Witches are incredible, powerful and trusted allies.

Then, of course, there came Vanessa Fox who Tessa thought was magical long before she knew she was a witch. It was a rude awakening when Vanessa’s family shunned Tessa for being a hunter. Tessa had never had to think about it before but after that she knew that not all witches liked hunters. In fact, some thought hunters took advantage of witches and had for centuries. And then some thought, in short, witches and hunters did not mix.

“Yeah, I like to think one or two steps ahead. It’s good to be prepared, right? I learned that from the best. My mother. She keeps photos of all…Anyways, I could possibly be convinced to show those photos. Possibly.” She glanced over in the same direction as Tessa, allowing herself to make an over-the-top wince. “Like, those two colors do not belong together under any circumstances. It’s just…rude. You would do that? What a sweetheart!”

"Be prepared- number one rule of---,” hunting- “Life. Now that sounds like a story but alright, I hear your ‘anyways’ and I’ll respect it. I have been known to be pretty charming, y’know. A little wine, little chocolate, rain pouring down... You better hold onto those secrets while you can,” Tessa joked, adding a wink for good effect. She gave Shelley a playful nudge before setting her sights on the bottle of wine being blocked by the blouse. Tessa started to make her way over, hand slipping into her pocket to see if she had a- yes! Got it.-quarter. When she was half a beat away from the blouse- entering the ‘small talk’ danger zone- she maneuvered the coin between her fingers and subtly flicked them in the direction of the table’s leg. It wasn’t a big old bang or anything but the CLANG noise was enough to grab blouse and co’s attention just long enough for Tessa to grab the bottle. And a platter of cheese cubes.

She did a little twirl on the way back to Shelley, holding the bottle out to her- “For you.”

“All photographic of myself from that experience have vanished into the metaphorical trash bin, but I do have some old cell phone photos saved for strategic purposes. You never know when you need to convince Danny McReid to do something for you. Yeah, she’s the woman in that hideous green and hot pink blouse. Normally, I wouldn’t care, but she’s friendly with my mom, and that’s a conversation I’m not in the mood to have.”

“Smart. If Nessy’s taught me anything it’s that a little bit of digital blackmail can be a necessary evil. Everyone forgets that old flip phones can still do damage. Aw, okay, now I all I wanna do is see these pictures,” Tessa laughed. She followed Shelley’s description to the blouse, scrunching up her nose. Well, if you don’t have nothing nice to say... “I see her. Totally valid--- How about for extra security purposes- AKA avoiding the small talk- I go in and grab the bottle for you? I’ll be in and out before anyone even thinks to ask me how I am.”

“It comes off as the perfect combo of charming and smart. Truly, I’m jealous of your talents. I’m the first one to admit that it wasn’t exactly the most appealing looking thing on a hot chocolate, but at least it tasted good. It’s weird that we’re still only in June. I feel like time doesn’t work normally here, don’t you agree?”

“Uh, sure. What exactly would that be?“

Isaiah was having such a great night. Sure, it wasn’t champagne on his favourite party yacht but still. Havensdale still held strong in his heart and he never got tired of all his mom’s friends saying how handsome he looked. What? He did. Of course he was also actively trying to make sure she didn’t scare off Charlotte too much. Who knew how many adorable baby Isaiah photos his mom had in her purse, ready to weaponize at any given moment. Anyway.

Speaking of his drop dead gorgeous date— “Charlotte! Hey, there you are. I think I lost you somewhere between the entrees and Lyndsy McArthur wanting to know where I got this sweater. Tess, hey!” He’d only had to speak with Tessa Thomson all of five minutes to know that they clicked. Astrological friendship compatibility confirmed. “Can’t wait for the big date. You and Vanessa were a ‘yes’ for Italian, right?” @foxy-vanessa​

        Vanessa’s night was going pretty damn well if she said so herself. Her first ‘official’ Havensdale event as Tessa’s girlfriend and she honestly couldn’t be happier. The wine didn’t hurt either.

She’d been on her way to find said girlfriend after finally spotting her talking to Charlotte, when Isaiah approached the two of them and she heard her name mentioned along with the word ‘Italian’ and hurried over.

“What was that about Italian?”

"Well---” As if on cue, Isaiah and Vanessa appeared. Tess gave him a look, eyes wide as if to say ‘uh oh, stop talking’ but he’d stuck them in it now. She’d planned a whole speech, you know? The food, the friends, the fun... Of course it was totally up to them if they wanted to do it- she and Isaiah just kinda jumped the gun. “Baby-,” she smiled, taking Nessy’s hand first (priorities), “Missed you.”

Okay, focus. Put the ‘heart eyes’ away for two minutes- “I was just about to ask Charlotte about it actually but, um, since everyone’s here... With the semester finishing up and summer just starting, all of us here and well- You know. Isaiah and I just got totally caught up talking about food and our amazing girlfriends so it just seemed, like, the obvious thing to suggest...,” she took a breath, looking over to Ness with only a slight puppy dog look in her eyes, “A double date. With us! The four of us. And Italian, if everyone agrees. It could be fun. I mean, it would be fun but what do you think? What do you both think?”  @charlotte-the-confused​

“Aww, thank you, but you were not there for the great hailstorm of 2008. There were bruises and twigs in hair and it was a whole big mess. Oh, tell me about it. The cheese is pretty excellent. I’ve been trying to figure out how to sneak some home with me, but the lady guarding the cheese table is…intense.”

"Oh man, that sounds rough! Did everyone make it out unscathed? And by that I do mean ‘made it out without having their messed up hair photographed’. That’d be the last thing you want cropping up on Facebook memories every year. Intense cheese lady, huh? Want me to go work some magic for you? The old double-team: distract and grab.”

Once again, Tessa, you are just saying all the right things. How do you even have that level of power? It’s truly not fair. Yes, it is so all-in here. Like, at first, I was a bit taken aback by the concept of doing green whipped cream for St. Patrick’s Day, but people really liked it, so, a Valentine’s Day special would go super well! I totally get what you mean. I feel like every other day, I’m running into people who just…know me. I will take your word when it comes to the gushing. Could you maybe tell Vanessa thanks? Not that I can’t myself. It just would be a bit weird, right?

It’s a gift but I hope it comes off as charming too. [ winks ] That’s fair, it’d take a bold and brave patron to be the first to order up a cup of that. Green goo is either hit or miss. Yes, I love it! Valentine’s Day in Havensdale is gonna be so cute. I’m totally getting ahead of us though, right? We should get through the summer of love first. It’s so weird but I like it. Yeah, of course I can tell her thanks. Don’t worry, I’ve got you.

I feel like they’re so hard to get right. Like, you don’t want it to be too cheesy, but you want it to be special. Oh my gosh, see, that is the exact perfect mix, isn’t it? Especially for a little nowhere town. Well, feel free to gush away. I’m always available to listen. Except if I’m in class or at work, of course. But beyond that, I’m available. [blinks in shock when she hears that Vanessa likes her] Oh. Wow. Cool. Cool cool cool. I mean, I don’t know if I’d be making the pastries. But I will definitely be providing them. I do feel nervous around him. But, in a very excited sort of way. Where I can’t stop talking, and I just want to see him smile, and now I sound like an idiot, don’t I?

I think when you’re with the right person, the line between cheesy and special becomes non-existent. Everything they do is just perfect and romantic. Small towns are either all in or all out, huh? Here’s definitely all in. You’re a part of the community before you even know it. The other day, like, every person at the grocery store knew me by name which is so completely surreal... But nice. That’s fair but don’t worry, I can just text you the gushing for you to read later too. [ winks ] Sounds perfect, Charlotte. Ladies who brunch together can do anything, y’know? Anything. [ grins wider and wider the more she goes on- ] No! No, you don’t sound like an idiot. You sound--- I mean, I totally get you. Totally. Plus, he seems like a really good person and you deserve that. He smiled a lot talking about you too.

Okay, but the idea of a candlelit coffee is super cute. You know, I might have to suggest that at work. For like, a Valentine’s Day special or something. But I will 100% credit you on that. [nods along] Yeah. I’ve never met anyone like her before. Oh, of course. You guys are like the most amazing couple I’ve ever seen. Tessa, that’s so sweet of you. You really don’t have to offer that, but thank you. Brunch? That would be so awesome. I could totally bring pastries! I haven’t decided on my feelings on the word, but I think it’s a good word? Hmm. I’ve heard only positive things about Il Piacere.

You think so? Oh my gosh, yes. Valentine’s day specials are always the best. We were in another nowhere town last Valentine’s and they did rose petals on the tables at this café called ‘Rosie’s’. Super cute. [ Grins ] Thank you, Charlotte. I could definitely gush until the stars fall out the sky about her. She likes you too, y’know. [ Of course she positively beams! at the couple compliment- ] Aw, Charlotte! My heart is melting right now. I’ll tell Ness you said that, I think it’ll make her blush and everything. What are friends for? Besides, the more people we’ve got making brunch a thing, the better. It’s a good word. If he makes you smile, if it makes you feel all fuzzy and nervous at the same time, it’s a good word. Mhm, only positive things. Cool.

I’m aware that places beyond campus exist, even if the one I spend the most time at is Lyndsy’s. You know, since I work there and all. I wouldn’t define it as romantic, but it’s definitely very nice. Oh, I don’t want you to feel like you and Vanessa should leave the dorms. It’s been very interesting to have her as a roommate. Unless you both want to live together, in which case, I wouldn’t want to stand in your way. [swallowing down the wine] I’m fine. It just went down the wrong pipe. That’s all. Please don’t worry about it. I just hadn’t contemplated that word. Yeah. Just a new word to hear.

Of course, of course! Here is great, we love here and you know that you can depend on the quality of everything. But you wouldn’t wanna, I don’t know, have a candlelit coffee here, where you work. [ laughs ] Ness is definitely interesting and I don’t want to say anything for sure. Thank you for your blessing though, it means a lot. Tessa! It’s lovely to see you somewhere that isn’t my dorm room. Not that I mind seeing you, of course. It’s always nice to see you, I mean. Very good wine and quite a lot of friends. It is a great combo. [takes a sip of wine and nearly chokes on it at the ‘boyfriend’ mention] You met my…my boyfriend? Isaiah? Yes, he is pretty. Italian food’s nice.

[ Laughs ] It’s lovely to see you somewhere that isn’t your dorm room too. Hold onto that sentiment, okay? ‘Cause there are lots of really great places outside of campus. Nice places. Romantic places, even. Plus, I mean, who knows what’ll happen next year, right? Maybe Ness and I will be outta your hair. Ooh--- Don’t tell her I said that. It’s all kinda new. And old. And amazing.
