oh thank god
Oh my god this makes me CRINGEEE please don’t carry cats like this. It’s literally torturing them, and it’s lowkey animal abuse.
In general cats should not be picked up unless 1) they are super rare and actually like it but again this is super super rare or 2) you need to pick them up for a legit reason like putting them in a crate.
Please respect animals
this guy is a qualified vet, you’re completely talking out your ass. picking up a cat isn’t torture and I don’t know what planet you landed head-first on to get that idea.
It’s honestly sad a vet thinks this way.
I stand by my opinion and always will. I’ve know many of people with cats (like most of us do) a lot of them pick up their cats and touch them and bother them constantly and I’ve noticed their relationship with their cat is always strained. Yes cats are known to avoid people a good chunk of the time but people who pick up and bother cats usually rarely see their cats, yeah their cats still will spend some time with them but it’s not nearly as often as somone who respects a cats space.
Both my close friend and I are huge cat people and both of us would NEVER dream of picking our cat up let alone bothering him/her unless their body language expressing they are open to pets. Both of us also have cats that never leave us alone and are super close to us. I’m not saying that can’t happen with people who bother and pick up their cats needlessly but I personally have never seen it.
Yeah ok you are not a vet. Or an animal behaviorist.
And you are dead wrong.
I can’t tell if you’re just a sweet summer child with your ideas and good intentions in the wrong place, or a troll.
I baby carry my cat and they still love to be around me and cuddle and play. I have one cat we do not baby carry because it is way beneath his dignity and we respect that. I have another cat who will let herself be baby carried but it is very uncomfortable to her, she likes her feet pointing down. She was not socialized quite enough as a kitten, so it has taken time getting her less awkward about being held, but she got there. My third cat. You can do anything to him. He is very chill. He is social, friendly, trusts strangers, never scratches, hisses, or bites, and seeks human companionship because he enjoys it. And he doesn’t mind being held like a baby. I pick him up a lot.
Please. Realize cats are individuals. Your experience with your cats not liking being held upside down IS VALID. But it is not the LAW of how cats are.
Cats can be introverted, exteoverted, averse to touch or enjoying touch.
I literally said in my first point that there are some cats that don’t mind being picked up or don’t mind being bothered and pet all the time and how if that’s the case then that’s different and fine.
My point is that I’ve been around A LOT of cats my entire life and while some genuinely don’t care a good majority do care in some way shape or form on how they are touched
And guess what?? You do that wrong and they scratch the fuck out of you and then people claim “cats are assholes” “cats are so mean!” “Dogs are better!” Because people don’t realize that with cats you have to respect their space often more than you have to with dogs. Again YES I realize that it depends on the dog/cat and their personality but majority of cats I’ve met are not just gonna let you pick them up without consequences.
I’d rather teach people typical cat behavior and to respect a cats space then to have people think it’s okay to just pick up or bother a cat whenever, get scratched or bit and then have ppl continue to think cats are just assholes and that you don’t have to respect them.
