Already know I wanna send this to people on June 1
Audio:
Erika, referencing ebenezer scrooge: You, boy! What day is it?!
Brennan, as a young boy: It's Pride, bitch!
"The horrors persist but so do libraries, books, iced coffee, sunsets, trees, the word 'fuck', the moon and the sea."
"At this time! In this place!" 🪻🥚 Happy Glorious 25th of May to those who celebrate. GNU Terry Pratchett

I like to think there is a parallel universe where reading comment sections is known as a soothing pastime because everyone on the parallel Internet is as kind and polite as the commenters on yourdailypoem.com:
Cedar Waxwing - Bombycilla cedrorum
Owl and Sakura by Kotozuka Eiichi (1950′s)
Scariest object in the Solar System
The Sun
Mercury
Venus
Earth
Mars
Jupiter
Saturn
Neptune
One of the dwarf planets
One of the moons
An asteroid or comet
Other?
Which one gives you the biggest willies to think about. Making this poll because I'm wiki surfing and I have an Opinion
#I don't get Jupiter though is it the storms? It's all the way over there those cosmic storms aren't gonna do anything
I can only speak for myself but while the Sun is of course a cosmic horror beyond imagining that can easily kill us with its cancer rays, it's a star, it's supposed to be like that. And it's really so big and deadly that the brain can't really comprehend its bigness or its deadliness.
Whereas Jupiter is a planet, and planets are not supposed to be like that, as far as I'm concerned. My brain still can't fully comprehend the scale of a planet with 1321 times the volume and 318 times the mass of Earth, but it can get a lot closer, and therefore it can instill more cosmic dread in me. What do you mean Io is so volcanic because Jupiter's gravity is stretching it like playdough. What do you mean the Jovian magnetosphere is 20,000 times stronger than Earth's and its tail extends into the orbit of Saturn and if you stood on Io you'd get a fatal dose of radiation in less than 2 hours. What do you mean it has over 100 moons. What do you mean its core is 3x as hot as the Earth's. What do you mean 335 mph winds. What do you mean its lightning strikes are 100x as powerful as Earth's. What do you mean it has helium and neon rain. What do you mean the Great Red Spot is a centuries old storm that's bigger than the entire Earth.
This means nothing to me. Brain can't comprehend this size ratio. Meaningless.
This though. This is scary. I can visualize this. This wants to eat me.
“Haha remember when murder-hornets were gonna be a thing? What a nothingburger.”
Yes, because the Washington state government activated like a sleeper-cell and ruthlessly, systematically hunted them down and annihilated them.
“Y2K came to nothing amirite?”
Yes because an army of software engineers working around the clock, losing sleep, and busting ass till the last minute prevented it from happening.
“Remember the hole in the ozone layer?”
You mean the one that was fixed through rigorous world wide government action?
One of the root problems of our society is a refusal or inability by media to articulate that all those “it’s gonna be an apocalypse” disasters were not disasters because we collectively did something about them.
The good news is this is actually quite correctable. I maintain my firm belief that we as humans are capable of solving almost all of our problems, when we decide to do so.
And I still think that’s going to happen. I don’t know when or how, but I do know that abandoning hope won’t help bring it about.
And I refuse to let the cynics own a chunk of my heart.

there's literally nothing more radical in 2026 than believing that humanity can become good news for each other and the only world we'll ever share.

a talking point i often see when defending the consumption of dark content is that it’s a coping mechanism for those with trauma which is very valid and true but i also want to make this abundantly clear: you can like dark content for no reason. you can enjoy fucked up shit in fiction because it’s enjoyable and entertaining. trauma is not required as a ticket for entry. enjoy your dark content bc it’s fun and sexy and don’t let anyone take that away from you
sometimes the reason is this
reblog if you love to see that shit that was fucking crazy
I think one of Pratchett's great skills in writing was being able to make silly things serious, in different ways. Like, there's a fairy godmother forcing everyone into fairystales, how fun! Except in the process, she has stopped seeing them as people. She's forcing people to live lives they don't want to because she decides that's how it has to be. Sometimes she goes so far as to violate her victim's minds and deform and puppet their bodies so they'll play their part right, and anyone who doesn't do their job gets mercilessly killed. And there's a zombie activist named Reg Shoe who buries himself every year out of solidarity for the dead, how funny! Except he is filled with a genuine passion for justice and improvement in the world, and that's why he literally refuses to die. And he buries himself on a holiday that happens to be the anniversery of his own death, and he does it next to the bodies of the friends and strangers he fought alongside, the ones who didn't get to come back, so he spends one day with them. There is still a lot of silliness in discworld, a lot that's wacky and funny, but a lot of it, when you think about it, is oddly beautiful or touching or disturbing or something else entirely.
Happy birthday to Sir Terry. Mind how you go.

I love having friends who reject diet culture. I love going out when everyone buys food and drinks that they enjoy. I love people who will pipe up and suggest we stop for a snack or grab a meal. I love ordering what I want and no one making comments other than how good it looks (and maybe asking to steal a bite off my plate). I love revelling in how full we are after a good meal and taking a break to appreciate how fortunate we are. I love sharing snack from our bags with one another. I love enjoying the pleasure of food and drinks and good company.
