i don’t go here anymore, but almost everything in the book is commentary on the politics surrounding the government response to classism and racism? (the musical discusses the latter more but it’s all the same story). ponyboy’s whole motive is wanting to get out of tulsa because of how divided the world feels due to class. im pretty sure another huge part of the book is that people mainly cared about bob’s murder because he was a soc. if he was a greaser, no one would’ve cared about his death. just like how nobody cared when dally died (outside of the gang i mean). and then the anti cop propaganda in dally’s assisted suicide. literally all of it is political commentary about how the government doesn’t give a fuck about the greasers because they’re poor and how the greasers are all considered hoods and criminals, even though you have characters like ponyboy and johnny who clearly aren’t. you don’t have to be a fan of the musical, but listen to justice for tulsa and tell me it’s not political as FUCK
