Food Blogging on the side

On July 4th, during a visit to the Rideau centre, I stopped at Baskin-Robbins as got two scoops of the Cookies ‘n Cream Brookie flavour. It tasted chocolatey with the sweetness of brown sugar, plus rich chewy chunks (and ribbons) of brownie, and pieces of sandwich cookies and chocolate-chip cookie dough.

On July 2nd, Went to the St. Laurent again, this time for a new phone case and decorative things. I got myself an Espresso-style Tea Latte, specifically a Paddy Mist Latte with 70% sugar.

It consists of fresh milk and bitter green tea infused with Yunnan toasted sticky rice that gave it a nutty and toasty taste to it on top of the popcorn-like scent (which I love). It tasted less sweet than usual as stated above.

Yesterday on the 22nd, I took a bus downtown to the Byward Market, where I stopped at a local place, Lois ‘N’ Frima’s and got myself a waffle cone twist, as per usual when at that place. It blends sweet vanilla and rich chocolate soft serve together into something pretty tasty.

On the 19th of June, after another visit to the community centre, I got myself a Japanese Genmaicha Milk Tea with Red Bean. It had that sweet milk tea flavour that was complimented by Genmaicha’s cereal taste and bitterness and nutty softness of red beans.

Went on a road trip to Old Quebec from the 29th to 31st of May. On the 30th, mom and I did a a bit of a food tour through the old town.

At a sweets shop, I tried free samples of cappuccino and cranberry nougat (La Nougaterie Québec). And I got a bar of cappuccino nougat, plus a strawberry pâte de fruit that had that genuine taste of strawberries.

Then we stopped at the Buffet de Antiquaire, where we had breakfast. I had myself a hot chocolate and a salmon Benedict. They were decent.

At Nature Artisan, I tried some maple syrup samples; the smoked syrup was my favourite (I don’t have pictures of the syrup itself, though).

I also stopped at Tutto Gelato, where I got a cone with one scoop of Stracciatella gelato and another scoop of Lavender & Spirulina. The stracciatella consisted of a sweet milk ice cream with hardened chocolate that mixed beautifully. The lavender (dyed with spirulina algae) had a sweet, heavily floral taste that I didn’t mind too much (my mom said it tasted like perfume).

And back at the Hotel’s Beffroi Steakhouse, I had a cosmopolitan cocktail and a Buffalo Mac and Cheese (although the server forgot the shrimp and did having to bring them after several minutes). It was fine.

Today, on the 1st of June, I got myself an Avocado Mochi Cloud at St. Laurent after a visit to the community centre. The mochi cloud was the same squishy and creamy kind, and the avocado part was buttery and somewhat grassy (it was also somewhat healthy compared to the snacks I had during a recent road trip to Quebec City).

Elaborating on the visit: At the community centre, a disability advocate with spastic cerebral palsy did a presentation about accommodation and advocacy (he’d also written a thesis about Christianity and disability).

On May 11th, I went to the usual community program and on the way decided to get a Pearl Milk Tea with Mochi, which had that classic milky sweet taste and chewy boba, with the addition of a creamy and squishy mochi cloud.

On the 20th of May, after another community centre visit (where I was asked to draw a superhero as part of an activity), I got myself a Brown Sugar Pearl Mochi Latte, of which the taste was enjoyable, with creamy milk, caramelized brown sugar syrup, sweet chewy brown sugar pearls, and that same creamy and squishy mochi cloud.

And on the 22nd, while on the way to the community centre, I got myself a Mango Mochi Cloud, which was like a tropical mango slush with chunks and the squishy mochi cloud I mentioned earlier.

On May 18th, after that same Byward market visit, I went with my parents for a walk near the Ottawa River, then went for ice cream (dad couldn’t come due to health issues, so we got him a buster bar like he always does).

On May 18th, I went to the Byward Market (because a person has to go out after undergoing a “Just Right” OCD-induced breakdown), and I decided to stop at Le Moulin De Provence, and got myself a mango mousse dessert—or Mousse Mangue to go.

(I realized I probably should have had it for the place, so I stopped at the tea store to sit and eat… and got some strawberry iced green tea with that too.)

Took my trip to the Rideau Centre back on May 14th last year. Another season ice cream flavour at BR. I got a perfect a perfect photo of that scoop. 

The Ube Coconut Swirl was quite tasty. The sweet nutty flavour and grittiness of ube mixed well with the refreshing coconut taste.

On May 3rd, I took the bus and went to the Byward Market where a Cinco de Mayo celebration was going on. After a drink at The Grand and a seasoned cob of corn from a stall, I headed to BR as usual and got myself a scoop of Beach Day. Honestly that scoop looked perfect but it did melt a bit while I ate it.

On the 21st of April, I went to Dairy Queen with my parents for an afternoon snack. While dad got a burger, I got myself a S’mores Blizzard (again, vanilla ice cream). I did eat it slowly since I had a bowl of homemade ramen half an hour before.

On April 20th, I went to the community centre, but it ended up being for a painting class I hadn’t registered for, so I hung out at the St. Laurent scheduling my Tumblr food posts. After that was done, I got myself something from Presotea’s Lychee Series.

The Lychee Lime Crush Tea had that refreshing taste that was composed of lychee and sour lime crushed together with a green tea base.

I wasn’t too keen on the lime and lychee pulp, but that’s crush tea for you, plus the lychee gave a tropical floral kick to it.

(I’ll admit it, I often have to look up the food’s flavour profile to get an idea on how something tastes. Just one of the downsides of having ADHD.)

Then on the 22nd, I got a Fresh Lychee Iced Tea before going to the community centre. It was a strong drink, with sweetened green tea base mixing well with tropical chunks of lychee.

At least it was more tolerable than lime pulp, but that is my opinion.
