Statistically this is very true! Women tend to not apply to jobs unless they meet 100% of the job requirements, while men typically feel more comfortable applying if they only hit around 60% of the requirements.
i know its the mets, but this is the coolest shit iāve ever seen a human being do

big day over here.
fuck you
The scripture is Exodus 22:25 ā āIf you lend money to any of my people who are poor, do not act like a moneylender and require him to pay interest.ā
So you can charge interest to big companies, but not to poor people. The entire payday lending industry just got wiped out.
Incredibly fucking slow at it š¤§
i fixed it
#this story is actually sad like#he said he didnāt go anywhere when he died#but his dad wrote the book and put the kidās name on it cause the dad knew itād sell a shit ton of books#āno shhh you went to heaven shhhhā#despite both the boy and his mother saying they DID NOT want the book published#it was published#and the boy saw NONE of the profit#it went straight to the dad#so the parents got divorced and he lives with his mom now#and despite asking and demanding and explaining multiple times that they didnāt want this book out there#and please take it off the market#it never stopped#so what did they do?#they did the only thing they thought would work#they said he went to hell instead so that the christians wouldnāt buy it so the monsters wouldnāt keep selling it#and it worked#it fucking#worked#theyāre pulling the book from shelves#I know this post was meant to be funny but damn#knowing the whole story kinda#feels more important to meĀ (tags:Ā abananapepper)

Hereās one I found.
Sidenote: I find it hilariously ironic that this familyās surname is Malarkeyāfor those who donāt know, itās a colloquialism that means fake, B.S., etc.
I would just be posting this same thought here either way.
Antifascism is not an organization, it is not an establishment, it is not even strictly anarchism. Itās just being against fascism. Thatās it. If someone asks about antifa then say āOh antifascism? Youāre talking about people against fascism? Yeah whatās your take on that?ā
Make them loudly agree or disagree with people who know fascism is bad. Make them be honest. No twisted words. Are you or are you not anti-fascism?

Dear Writers: Monetized Fanfic
As a writer, you work is just as valid and takes as much time to hone as any other medium. One person said this perfectlyĀ āAnyone can write. True. But anyone can draw a stick figure and they arenāt called an artist.āĀ You can disagree with monetizing fic. But why talk shit about people who do it?Ā
I debated whether I was going to reply to that post aimed at me, and honestly I think Iād be pretty hypocritical if I didnāt. Unfortunately, the person blocked me (having never once interacted with me) so I could not reblog and defend myself. Though Iām still not sure I would have considering how bad their take was.
First, let me thank the writers in the community for their unprompted support, especially those who didnāt know it was directed at me. Telling people how damaging the take was is one thing, but slinging hate is another. Be adults.
Obviously this was a hurtful jab out of left field from someone I didnāt know and hadnāt even spoken to, further supported by fellow writers in the community which was incredibly disheartening. Not only because it perpetuates the toxic mindset that writing is somehow less valid and worthy of monetization than other mediums -which is just shooting yourself in the foot- but because itās just a kind of shitty thing to do.
Some creators try making money off their craft when they canāt physically or mentally hold a normal job, when they have to make extra money in a bad economy, or when theyāre pursing their passion and trying to survive while getting better at it.
Why is it that writers are scummy if they do this, but not artists and other fan work creators? Seriously, I want to know. And why the arbitrary line between commissions and Patreons? If youāre against money for written fan works at least take a hard stance. I donāt understand the weak convictions.
Is the reason you draw that line becauseĀ commissionsĀ are legal (they arenāt) and valid, but Patreons arenāt?Ā Is it because one path involves a loophole that lets you virtue signal and call it ātipping?ā Or is it just because you donāt like the creator? Be honest with yourself.
Fic writers are constantly treated like their craft like itās less valid than other fan works. This gate keeping mentality is why you see so few writers monetize, and even fewer become successful. Itās discouraging, and it made me as a writer hesitate to accept any money, let alone make a Patreon, even after posting 150 free works by the time I monetized.
Many artists -regardless of the medium- start by selling fan works while they improve their craft. Itās a way to support themselves while cultivating a base that trusts their work enough to consume original pieces.Ā In Japan they encourage fanworks, including writings, and sell them at conventions, and they work as a way for companies to seek new talent. Fanworks are still technically āillegalā in Japan. Their citizens just donāt throw it around as a way to be petty and shut down creators they donāt like. The DMCA is there to protect creators if they choose to use it.
I encourage any writer who wants to make a Patreon to go for it. Your fans will likely be very kind and happy to support you. If people come at you because fans who provide monetary support get something a little extra, then theyāre either entitled or insecure. It also takes a special kind of asshole to wholeheartedly support a creator monetizing when it benefits you, and even ask them for advice on doing it yourself, then support bashing them for it later.
Iām sorry that writing nearly 20k words a month of combined free and monetized (more free) content isnātĀ āhard enough workā to monetize. You donāt have to read my monetized fanfiction. I have 200+ free works available on Tumblr for you to enjoy and post new shit all the time.
I have to give an extra thank you to my patrons after this. This gate keeping, elitist mentality really limits the growth of writers when compared to other mediums. And it really is a shame, because your work is just as valid as any other creative outlet.
You donāt have to like monetization. The āselloutā mentality is as old as time. But shading other creators who do it publicly to invalidate them? Pretty scummy.Ā
This.
I saw the post by somebody, so I think I know what this is about. I donāt understand why you can commission someone for fan art, but asking to support fan writers through Patreon is too much. A side hustle is toxic and writing canāt be that hard, can it? As somebody who has been writing for over a decade for original and fanfiction content, I can tell you point blank that writing is hard and Iāve personally studied aspects of storytelling. Iām ace, so thereās sex stuff that I have to research because I lack any experience in that department. Fanfiction can take as much time as a drawing or other medium and itās fair that a writerās time should be compensated.
If you donāt want to monetize your work, thatās good for you. You do you. However, you also donāt need to knock down people who choose to monetize some works in order to make extra cash. Nobody is entitled to read someone elseās fanfiction.
And as someone who works 40 hours a week, it still doesnāt pay enough to rent an apartment and be able to buy food and other things that would make life a little more bearable. So forgive me if I have to consider monetizing fanfiction or getting a ko-fi account because I canāt take on another job at this time.
Exactly. Some of this also stems from people running their blogs like #jsutrandomhornythoughts and assuming everyone else is doing the same. Great! Do you and focus on pure fun. Not everyone is here doing the same thing as you.
As @the-lady-writes-what stated, I study writing in my free time, while in school full time, and research for some of my fics. At times this research can be very in depth and time consuming. I edit exhaustively, and maybe people donāt know this? I pay my editor, I pay my main mod in discord, and I pay artists that I work with on patreon. This is not me just putting whatever thought I have into the ether and getting paid for it.Ā
I donāt think people realize, this is how I make my living. my whole living. I am not forcing anyone to buy my shit, and I make free shit all the time. I support the hell out of other creators and always will, monetized or not. Thereās just no excuse for this toxic behavior against fan creators anymore.Ā
Artists, writers, voice actors, crafty types. You get ONE life. And making your job something you love, that YOU control the pace of (Not using your talents for a corporation. If youāre good with that go for it but it is draining) is very fulfilling. And donāt let anyone tell you youāre wrong for doing what you love for work.
This is so important. Chapters take HOURS and works take a long time. Some people donāt even care enough to leave a like. Why is it wrong of me to create entire AUs and want to be paid pennies per sentence?
Weāre not saying itās required for you to pay us for our work, reblogs, comments, and likes are appreciated just as much š
But donāt try to stop people from supporting monetarily when they can!
Some fan creators are plagiarizing others, for one. Which Iāve had happen to me, and yes the individual has monetized it and there is 0 legal recourse for that.
Another thing is that the legalities arenāt some simple matter. There is a reason that Ao3 has it against their TOS to advertise oneās ko-fi or other methods of receiving payment. It places the website in jeopardy.
There are some exceptions to these rules where it IS legal to make a profit on fanfic. If the individual is not plagiarizing anyone and is doing things legally then no I donāt think they should be shamed.
Thatās absolutely unacceptable. If a fan creator is plagiarizing or profiting off of the works of others they need to be approached. If they donāt amend they need to be encouraged to reconsider, and if they still refuse thatās when you have to start warning others within the community to avoid them. Not through callout posts, but through speaking with other writers. Youāre absolutely right. There is no legal recourse for this. So itās up to the community to form a culture of respect and decency surrounding the works of others. Iām sorry that happened to you. We just recently tackled that with some voice actors monetizing peopleās fics through readings without permission. It is not okay, and I hope you approach them. I promise my content is 100% original. No stealsies.
send me song recs and i'll respond with:
couldnāt listen all the way through | not my thing | itās okay | kinda catchy | ok i really like this | downloading immediately | already in my library
This is reminder to check up on your own mental health.
OK thanks
