The first official draft of the first chapter is done! I finished it, had my beloved mom do a quick reading check and I have sent it to my supervisor. I can now enjoy the rest of the afternoon before dogsitting tonight, and tomorrow a new adventure with the next chapter will begin.

i submitted my final PhD application monday night. there's still a long road ahead and i'm already having stress dreams about interview invites, but at least i'm done with the part where i write 17 slightly different versions of my statement of purpose.

I very much agree with these suggestions. Forcing myself to write was the way I could finally start to become an active rather than a passive user of the target language.
