you know, life doesnāt have to be competitive. you donāt have to get in the very best university; you donāt have to get the highest paying career there is. you donāt need to compare and compete with everyone else in the world. you need to do whatās right for you. you need to relax, take a breath, and say āwhat do i want, for myself, to live as i want toā. and, if that involves high ambitions, then thatās fine. because you chose those ambitions on what you desire as an individual, and not on what is expected in order to succeed. letās be ourselves this year.
starting the last book of the semester and finally saying goodbye to this pile of readings that has been haunting my dreams.

itās never too late to start again. 5pm on a thursday can be your new monday. you donāt have to wait until the new year to better yourself. time is an illusion, donāt forget that. just because you woke up at 1pm, it doesnāt mean you messed your whole day up and that you canāt turn the mood around. itās never too late to start again!!!!!

I love a walking into a lovely library entrance, but a whole street? Even lovelier
Looking for Blogs Page!
Hey, everyone! Iām gonna start working on a sorting list of studyblrs and add a Looking for Blogs page for people that want to find similar ones to their interests. There are so many of us now!
Itāll have sections for subjects (Math/Science/etc.), Majors, and general blog content (journals, aesthetic, resources, etc.)
If you want to be added on, reblog this and tag what pertains to your blog! It can have as many categories tagged as you like (Math, Engineering, Architecture, Masterlists, Bujos, all of the above, whatever!) Iāll start working on the page this week.
Also, @eintsein brought up a brilliant addition: Iāll sort by academic level and school system, as well! Feel free to tag your year (middle school/high school/college year/masters/etc.) and system (ap classes, ib, a levels, etc.)
And to clarify some points, the tags can be for original content as well as general content you reblog. Anything to help distinguish your blog so people can check our similar ones!
i started on the page last night, and we have everything from bookblr to ASL to gcseās to public policy! we even have some MBTI types and hogwarts houses thrown in there. studyblr is so diverse and i didnāt even realize how much until making this list.Ā
you can view itĀ here, and it will constantly be a work in progress as long as people want to be added.Ā
Hey rising college seniors (or anyone needing to write a thesis-length work)! Last year, I tackled not one but TWO theses, one of which was honors-length and over 100 pages long. One was for Art History and the other for International Studies, so if you come from a discipline from outside of the humanities, it might look a little different for you. Here is my advice for making your thesis a little bit less scary to navigate.
1) Focus on a topic before developing an argument.
I donāt know about yāall, but whenever I write a research paper, my argument drastically changes from the conception of the paper to its final draft. Itās not necessary to have your argument nailed down right away. My Art History thesis loosely started at ā20th century art and politicsā in September, but by November it had gone through 2 or 3 different iterations before becoming āeveryone forgets that Jackson Pollock was a communistā. Often choosing your argument before doing your research boxes you into a place from which it is difficult to grow.
2) Try to avoid falling into a research hole.
Iām a jSTOR hoe. I love clicking through library search results and scholarly articles and collecting anything that seems relevant to my topic. This always leads me into hours of sifting through articles that are ultimately unhelpful and a waste of time and brain energy. Start with four or five sources. Read, analyze, regroup. Take notes, and when you are done with those sources, move on to more relevant information. Donāt forget to look up the citations of your most relevant sources. This is a treasure trove!
3) If you need to collect data, do it early.
Nothing is worse than being unable to move forward with your research analysis because you still have to collect more data. If you need to conduct interviews or produce survey data, make sure that you prioritize the research required to generate these things and get them approved and out early. I couldnāt analyze my results until a month before my IS thesis was due, and it made my last month of college rather hellish.
4) Have an accountability partner.
Try to find any friends or classmates who are also thesis-ing and band together. Host library write-ins or start a group chat if you prefer to work alone. You can also turn your thesis into a social activity! My friends and I would spend our Friday nights drinking and talking through our arguments and exchanging feedback in a casual social setting. That might not be what it looks like for you, but regardless of what you do, itās great to have someone who will hold you accountable and work alongside you.
5) Format your citations and works cited right away.
While it is super tempting to footnote sentences with links to articles while writing, leaving all of your citations for the very end makes life harder. Format your citations frequently to give yourself a mental ābreakā and keep them in a separate word doc.
6) I donāt know if this actually needs to be said, but keep all of your work backed up.
For the love of all things that are good do not leave your work saved exclusively do a desktop. I like to use Google Drive to manage all things (I even upload journal articles so that I can organize them in folders and access them anywhere from any device), especially because it autosaves constantly. Use whichever platform works best for you, but please, please, please back up your work to some sort of cloud.
Hopefully some of these are a helpful place to get started. Good luck!
i think we all know this feeling of being stuck inside your routine. youāre not really sad but it just feels like something is missing. so iām here to give you ideas on how to spice things upā¢ļø (or just make life more enjoyable).
paint your nails in an exciting color. paint them in several colors idc. now every time you see your hands (which is very often) you see your super cool nails
listen to a new music genre. like something completely different. if you like rap you will listen to country music now. jam your heart out i know u want to (here & here are some playlists if u need any ideas)
on that note revisit songs you liked when you were younger. we gettin nostalgic
sometimes you just need to watch a good old vine compilationĀ
food!!! this can be such a huge factor. something as simple as switching your breakfast from toast to cereals, just smth new, can make a huge difference. try new things out, have fun (recipes here, here, here and here)
same thing with the things you drink! add lemon to your water, drink some tea, try iced coffee out, buy water from a diff company, ā¦
a cute cup for your morning drink can really lighten up your mood too
get some magazines and cut things out you like. now get an a3 (a4 is okay too) paper and make a big collage
ikea trip? ikea trip!! donāt forget to eat smth there too yum
after showering put on some good smelling lotion and just enjoy the feeling
now put on your favorite underwear and an oversized shirt. maybe take some cute pics just for yourself. trust me you will feel better
rip a paper into little pieces
cuddle with your stuffed animal idc if you feel stupid, you will feel better
maybe spice things up with the way you look? try out a new hairstyle or invest in a new accessory you like (jewelry, hair ties / clips, belts, scarfs, etc.). it doesnāt have to be expensive, thereāre lots of cute things in second-hand stores for example!
start a challenge in whatever youāre interested in. maybe for a hobby you always wanted to try out or pick up again. thereāre tons of challenges on pinterest. i think i will try this oneĀ out though
write a love letter to yourself. you deserve one. fold it into a very small piece and put it into your pocket. this is now your lucky charm because trusting in yourself is all you need sometimes
buy groceries but this time with a friend or family member. catch up, have fun, buy some cookie dough and eat some cookies
picnics!!!!!!!! i love picnics!!!!! theyāre so cute and actually super easy to organize. you can go alone or with someone else. just grab the food you have at home and a blanket and go to the nearest spot you find. even your garden or balcony. you can easily incorporate this into your day if you donāt have much time. instead of eating your dinner at your kitchen table you will go on a picnic now
if you have more time, you can bring a book with you or some art supplies and enjoy time outside
taking a walk listening to your fav album can help so much
change your bedding. you donāt even need to buy a new one, just wash it and get that feeling of freshness
open one of these sites (1,Ā 2,Ā 3): and read an article that seems interesting
buy flowers for yourself and put them in your room
change the color your laptop highlights things in
declutter your phone and laptop in general. set up some new backgrounds that make you happy
vary your commute. take the bus instead of the subway, get off a station earlier, or if you can, take the bikeĀ
change the places you do things. try studying in the library or a cafƩ, scroll through your phone not in your bed but at the kitchen table, read on the floor, every small change adds into spicing things up
take a bath when you shower normally or the other way around
light candles in the evening
search for your old nintendo and play some games
stretch in the morning. even for 2 mins is good
download some new apps
try a no social media day
instead of a black / blue pen write in a different color (for example your groceries lists, on post-its, in your journal, ā¦)
i hope some of these ideas can help you! most of the are easy to incorporate into your daily life and take no to little money.Ā have a nice day!! <3
Can yallā¦stop antagonizing people for not being hyperaware of literally everything bad thatās happening in the world.
Itās not always on everyoneās radar the moment it happens just because it was on yours, itās exhausting to be aware of so much suffering, and people got personal shit going on in their own lives sometimes. Sometimes people have a real hard month in school or at work or with family issues and they donāt even notice all of this other shit bc their life feels like itās falling apart.
Shits rough leave people be

itās kinda cool how our generation has created actual tone in the way we write online. like whether we: write properly with perfect grammar, shrthnd everythin, use capitals to emphasise The Point, use extra letters or characters for emotion!!!!!, and much more - it means we can have casual conversations, effectively make jokes using things like sarcasm thatās usually hard to understand without context and much more. this āincorrect Englishā has really opened avenues of online conversation that isnāt accessible with ācorrect Englishā which is pretty interesting
#this is why attempts by the media to portray online communication by āāāmillenialsāā really frustrate me #because there are Rules okay #like see thatās different to saying ā'there are rulesā (tags via @soaringsparrows)
My class and I literally taught some of the nuances of this to our english teacher, things such as the difference betweenĀ āyesā andĀ āyes.ā orĀ ā..ā andĀ āā¦ā. It makes perfect sense linguistically that we would create this complexity to ease communication in a medium without body language and tone, but what my teacher was really floored about was that none of this had everĀ ālearnedā it, weāreĀ ānative speakersā of a whole new type of english.
Iām literally writing a whole book about this, this is so true.Ā
