#2-3 hours later than usual and it feels like a lot #What do you mean its already light out !!#That said i really enjoy being able to get up as early as i want bc when you roommates who are not similarly inclined #You kind of just cant get up at 3:30am because any noise at that time of day is heavily frowned upon #I do still try and be quiet in case my neighbors arent early morning people but the walls are very thick and theres no apartment below mine #Just the restaurant #So much lower pressure to not do stuff

two of my coworkers were talking about movies and one of them brought up elliot page and were talking about his movies and neither of them deadnamed or misgendered him and like. i mean 1) i was surprised but 2) i probably had the warm fuzzies for several hours afterwards

#idk if either of them knows im trans or not because even to other queer people i dont advertise that at all #i will mostly only be open about it other trans men/trans mascs and usually they already know bc we can both tell lol #so theres a lot of 'we're all cis here so im about to say something terrible' that happens esp at work #but not this time. was a happy surprise #actually ive had a very good pride month so far if im only counting conversations with coworkers #i told one of the other trans men who goes to knit group who im pretty close with that he/him are just my work pronouns #and outside of work i use it/its and he was cool with it. like had some respectful questions and wasnt mean about it #so that was lovely. and then i kind of accidentally came out to another (gay) coworker that im aroace and she was really nice about it too #i basically never divulge those things to people irl because ive Seen Some Shit and just assume the reaction will be bad #it was nice to be proven wrong

All it means when people say “you’re speaking from a place of privilege” is that you’re likely to underestimate how bad the problem is by default because you are never personally exposed to that problem. It’s not a moral judgement of how difficult your life is.

#this is one of (many) things that suddenly made a lot of sense when i became a wheelchair user #i had never really known any other wheelchair users personally and because i did not experience wheelchair problems i basically didnt know #that any of them existed. even when i realized the wheelchair was imminent and started looking into it a lot #some things you have to live to understand. and i know for a fact its not just wheelchair stuff thats like that #its life as every kind of minority #and tbh if someone says something like 'youre speaking from a place of privilege' a lot of the time that means they trust you enough #to feel safe saying that. so like. dont blow it by being an asshole in response. lol

the belief i have in my ability to carry any amount of stuff home if i am equipped with my backpack and two reusable totes is hubristic to a degree that the achaeans fighting at troy could only have dreamed of

#Me tbh #I thought that would stop when i started using a wheelchair but it turns out if you have reusable bags and a place to hook bags #And the ability to put the bags on the hooks (which admittedly is the hard part for me) then you can carry even more bags than you could #Pre-wheelchair #My once a month grocery trips are the same size as when i had use of a car lol #Also some stuff i can put on my footplate and balance it if its cool enough to be worth kind of fucking me up

15+ years of making dinner so far and you still cant beat brown rice with stir fried broccoli and onion for simplicity or deliciousness

#Also a ginger teriyaki sauce helps a lot #Some times i do canned bamboo and water cress and baby corn #But its not ideal for when youre cooking for one bc the can sizes dictate how much i add #And its a lot of food with all that #Also yet another victory in the cast iron pan war im having with my fucking dad which he doesnt know about:#Cooked eggs in the pan with no oil and it still only took 5 seconds with soap and a scrubby and running water to fix #This was the pan that (under his... care) was almost never used for eggs because they always burned and stuck like hell and it was a whole #Ordeal to clean off. Fuck you dude. I stripped the entire thing and built up new seasoning and now its the best pan in the world #Food

The miners lettuce (native) and bittercress (invasive) are being allowed to take over my mulch as their shallow roots seem to thrive atop the weed cloth. Both are edible and I like their flavor.

The storksbill/filaree, while apparently also edible, is being viciously eradicated as the seeds wreak havoc with Alyssum and Ruckus' fur. It's also choosing to grow in my walkway so it chose violence first.

Bondie is trying to be a mother! She will need support for any branches that produce apples this year, and I'm not going to let her set too many. But she's trying!

My yet unnamed apple has yet to really start leafing so I don't know if they're going to try this year as well. But they do have a little friend making themself cozy

Carl has made Many More Children this year!

However, growth-wise he continues to be a very strange tree. He wants to be spindly. He wants to have 20 foot long limbs with a huge cluster of branches right at the very end. And he wants these branches to grow straight up. Or straight down, preferably onto the ground itself.

Just... literally straight down.

So he got a fairly major chop today. I can't reach the top of him currently, but this weekend I'll get a ladder out there and further curb his extreme enthusiasm.

my knee has apparently decided that spontaneously subluxating is something it does now. I tried to tough it out at work for an hour or two (tbh, less toughing it out and more overwhelmed by pain to the point that i couldnt figure out how to leave and hoping it fixed itself which it did not). I am. Not happy about this

I threw something successfully !!! Finally !

This started out as about 1.5 pounds of clay that I kept fucking up and bits would come off and like half of it would still be on the wheel and I'd think well theres no need to center a new lump of clay I might as well just neaten this one up. That happened 4 times until I finally did it correctly

This is a terrible shape but that just means I can practice trying to trim a bad shape into a good shape

I actually made a second thing but after I took it off the wheel I poked it gingerly thinking Man this one is not gonna make it and immediately cracked. So... I was right lol.

Turns out I was not using nearly enough water and also because my hands are not strong anymore I really just need to practice doing smaller pieces that I can actually control. Good to know !

#I am very happy #Im really excited to finally get to try trimming #I fully expect to destroy this on accident bc so far i have proven to be a master of Gouging Shit Accidentally #But still !#Im actually pretty pleased with how thin the walls are :)#Also i am going to just make a pottery sideblog so that i no longer jumpscare people with my Extreme Beginner Pottery Skillz #Pottery

uuugh. accessibility button on the front door for my building is broken and due to the distance between the fob to unlock the door and the actual handle and my abilities and speed in my wheelchair, i literally cannot open the front door and have to just wait for a random passerby to open it for me which i hate doing. so naturally i submitted a maintenance request..... they fixed it temporarily and then it broke about 8 hours later, and now they are marking my additional maintenance requests as completed within like. 3 minutes. and not fixing it. and its still broken. and i had to wait ten minutes for someone walking by to help me. rent is about $3.25 per square foot by the way.

#im so mad. unfortunately for me the office hours for the property manager are 9-5 monday-friday which is when im at work #and they have never once answered the phone #i am considering not paying rent until its fixed but if that blows up in my face it would be real bad #on the other hand not being able to get into my building without someone else opening the door is also real bad #wheelchair user

Was able to get my wheelchair control readjusted so its almost flat rather than the extremely steep angle its been at and omg. I had not realized how much it was hurting my entire arm until now.

#The wheelchair clinic that occasionally comes into my clinic to help anyone with a minor repairs on a mobility aid is the singular thing #That employees can access and im very glad i can at least do that. Apparently most places around here if you work at a doctors office #They will also help you for acute needs and sometimes ongoing care but not here lol #But whatever . This is so much better than it was !#It was originally like a 45 degree angle which sucked and then i ran into a door and it wrenched it to basically straight up and down #Now its maybe 10 degrees #No wonder my whole right arm has been so fucked up #Wheelchair user #Powerchair user #One of these i will figure out how to actually contact kaisers dme to get real repairs....

At this point ive put a solid 8 hours into trying to figure out wheel throwing and i have gotten not quite nowhere but very close to nowhere. Im either fucking up centering or im fucking up pulling or both but i honestly cant tell which or whats wrong with it.

I WILL figure it out but its times like these that i remember i am the worlds slowest learner especially with no teacher and it is a frustrating process trying to crack anything with even a medium learning curve.

#At this point i do think im good enough at the skill of Learning New Skills #To know that i just need to keep trying and analyzing my mistakes as best i can and seeking different perspectives on how to do it #But in the meantime it is very frustrating #I have gotten to the stage of 'horrific wonky shapes but technically i did throw it' like maybe 5 times #And just failed well before that all the other times #The good news is im a lot better at wedging clay now. Because ive re-wedged this 5 pounds of earthenware about 20 times #The main slowdown is i dont have plaster or concrete or anything to dry it on so when i fail at the clay enough its too wet to use #And i have to just let it air dry a day or two until its useable again #Im making some valuable mistakes but thats not very rewarding in the moment lol #But yeah it is a little odd to be in a position where my hands have no idea what to do #Usually theyre the only ones who know whats going on lol.#Pottery

Supervisors love to say things like "what are you talking about, we've always done it this way" in regards to changes made 5 fucking minutes ago

#My supervisor is pissing me off :) again :)#She told me off in front of the whole team for following an old procedure that changed 3 business days ago WHEN I WAS OUT #I was not there for the change and nobody told me !!!#And then she quietly was like did i send the email saying we dont do x anymore #No she did not. #Poll #Way before 7 #I need a minimum of 2 hours of not speaking or being around people in the morning before i am capable of peopleing #Ideally more like 3 #So like for work i need to leave the house a bit after 6 which means getting up at 4am is cutting it close #Also if i am going somewhere i dont often go (which is what the poll suggests imo) then i also factor in a minimum of 1/2 hour of Idiot Tim #Into my travel times in case i misunderstand the transit system like an idiot (which happens frequently)
