“Father, they are nothing… lowly Lords of snow and cold. They hold no power over-“ Her wavering voice was cut short by shouting from out the throne room. Screams of terror and the sickening wet crunch of bodies hitting stone floors.

The kings panic grew as he looked from his daughter to the throne doors. Fear. Dark and pure, raged in his heart as he could practically hear the intruder’s footsteps. The sound of metal on stone sang through the room as fate drew to a close for comfort.

“She has come.” The King says, crumbling on his throne. His wife and other children look to him with desperate need on their faces. They knew not what was coming, only that it terrified their once unshakable father. The man of many wars, too old to swing his sword, was cowering like a cornered sheep before a wolf.

The young princess shook as she turned to look at the door, another thundering boom followed by the wet plop of a body. The air seemed to turn frigid and cold suddenly, the world drew to stand still as the throne room doors creak open. Slow and sure.

No light on the other side, shone to eliminate their attacker, only shadows that seemed to stretch on endlessly.

“Who dare enter this room. Uninvited no less-“

“Silence.”

It was not a request, it was an order. One their minds, body and souls, answered in kind.

And as the throne room doors fully opened, the shadow came into view. Draped in armor made from the itself, with eyes of sharpened steel, the devil in human form. Shapeless and nameless, with a sword dragging on the ground behind them.

“You… you took him. You killed him. He was mine and you took him from me.” She growls like a wolf on the hunt, trailing blood on the marble floors as she makes her way to the throne. Her steel grey eyes never wavering from the King.

“I swear onto you Lady Sorrow. I did not know-“ The King was immediately silenced by a narrowing of her eyes.

“You knew what your child was like. You knew of their cruelty and distain for my people… you set them loose on my kin and now… now I come to claim blood right.” The swordsman sneers, stopping behind the princess and bringing her blade her side.

“NO!” The queen screams, lunging for her daughter as the guards grab her and struggle to pull the queen back.

“Lady Sorrow I am sorry for my child’s actions but I cannot-“

“I know you won’t give them to me. They are your child after all. But the blood price will be paid. I will have royal blood from you for my slain kin.” She snaps, grinding her teeth as she looks at the old man with cruel justice in her eyes.

“Your dept will be paid one day soon. After I’m through starving your people.”

A final warning.

A final threat.

In a pillar of steel and smoke, The Lady of Sorrows vanished. And the Princess was gone with her.
