Robin Hood. Socialist Icon. Stealing from the rich and giving to the poor all while living in a commune with your buds. An excellent example of leveraging privilege to aid the less fortunate. The origin of the noble outlaw archetype.

But I've noticed something odd vis a vis modern interpretations of Robin Hood, I'm thinking specifically about the BBC show with Jonas Armstrong and Richard Armitage and the most recent movie with Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx (because for the life of me I can't remember a single detail about the Russel Crowe movie).

in both of these takes the writers try to justify Robin and Co.'s anti government stance by making the Sheriff of Nottingham a traitor. Namely the sheriff is in league with the saracens in the Holy Land and all the heavy taxes being taken from the good people of Nottingham are being used to support the opposing side in the Crusades. So the framing now is the Robin Hood is no longer anti government but rather pro government and anti brown people making it more palatable for a modern white Western audience who gets rather hand wringy whenever anyone so much as implies that he rule of law is not inherently moral.

So anyways we should all aspire to be like og Robin Hood and rob the rich with our friends with matching outfits and accompanying music
