Feeding the Crows, part 1
I thought of this phrase, which then made me think of the wonderful Crow Rooks that exist on this site, and I wanted to make a few doodles.
Starting with, @scalycat's Abel de Riva!
Love a guy that will challenge me drawing wise, facial hair has always been the bane of my existence and all these Crows have something growing on their face! I picked this pose because I can just see my Rook hearing him say something very sad and her being unable to stop herself from giving him a hug. Abel is either into it or not. XD
I haven't decided if I'll color these...or give them backgrounds. I just got sooo excited at the idea of it. We shall see how much steam I have after the next two Crows. XD

Hello! Is Abel’s name pronounced “a-bell” or “ah-bell”? I feel like the latter is the more antivan way but I’m not sure what you intended so I thought I’d request clarification:)
Also I was wondering how would Abel react to a Rook or other companion who was a blood mage? Especially companion!Abel after he was tortured?

Hey !! I call him "Ah-bell", but maybe in english it’s pronounced "a-bell" so… Whichever sounds the prettiest to your ears ? Haha
And his opinion on blood magic depends entirely on the person using it.
In the Companion AU, Rook saved his life and is trying to save the world. He doesn’t need to know much more than that.
On the other hand, he doesn’t like Solas, so he’ll gladly give him a hard time for using blood magic. He’s a bit of a hypocrite in that regard.
In general, he sees all forms of magic as tools that he doesn’t fully understand, but tools nonetheless. What kills isn’t the dagger, but the person wielding it. As far as he’s concerned, blood magic is no different.
That being said, he gets a mean headache whenever he’s too close to someone using it. So while he’d trust Rook with it, he’d probably keep a few paces away whenever it’s being casted. At least until he got used to it.

So, Able gets saved by the worst best woman in all Tevinter? I really love the Companion AU and can't wait for more. Also loving the benefit of adding another Crow to the collection. (Quick doodle)

Much like in my Evil Rook AU, Abel is captured by Venatori mages and slowly transformed into a perfect weapon and sleeper agent through blood magic, torture, and isolation.
This time, however, Rook has the chance to save him before the worst can happen.
By the time you rescue him, the experiments have already begun, so his recovery becomes the central focus of his personal quests.
If Abel is never recruited (you can pick that option), he will later return as an enemy that you must kill. This will earn you an uncomfortable dialogue with Viago.
Little trivia about him as a companion...
-He will greatly approve of you punching the First Warden
-Abel will have a mean verbal altercation with Solas during the final battle. He resents him for using blood magic on Rook
-If you don’t romance him he will not romance anyone
-You can gift him a perfume
-If you are a De Riva and you killed Abel, you will have a more personal dialogue with Viago, who will openly reprimand you for it
-He has physical tics and they get worse if you don’t bond with him. They decrease when you progress in his questline.
I’ve been playing a lot of Diablo 4 lately and there’s one NPC in particular who has exactly the voice I imagined for Abel, so I recorded a bunch of his voicelines for reference.
Quite smooth and charming, but sometimes a little deep and raspy. :)

…he starts flipping through the open books on her desk. One is about possession. One about the best ways to combat blood magic. One about resurrection. He reaches the bottom of the pile and finds a map of Rivain, with endless little notes and markings. He wonders how long this has been going on, and feels a sinking pit in his stomach when he sees a slashed ‘x’ on a secluded cluster of seaside caves. It gets worse when he turns and sees her weapons and cloak gone.
He picks up the pace, takes the stairs two at a time, and beelines for Neve. Briefly, he thinks Lucanis might be the better choice (they have a rapport, right?) but he doesn’t know if a demon is the best choice to bring into a potential blood magic ritual.
back in the world of companion natalia! this is a sequel piece to sorta hopin' that you'd stay, another work featuring @scalycat's lovely abel de riva. i've loved playing in this setting and with these two characters, and will definitely be leaving it open for more in the future haha. i hope everyone enjoys! please let me know what y'all think!
