honestly if you only have compassion for oppressed people's suffering because they are in a sufficiently oppressed class, thats a problem. anti-oppressive activism is useless if it ends up as "these people deserve compassion because they are in the Right Group" instead of "everyone deserves compassion and injustice and cruelty is never okay for anyone". anything else is doomed to repeat the very systems it wants to destroy.

The concept of acceptable/unacceptable targets is always ironic in practice, because no culture is going to apply them against existing cultural biases.

God I hope the future is kinder. I hope that they have it figured out better. I hope people don't have to work so much for so little. I hope there's time to explore passions and interests and skills. I hope people get the support they need. I hope the people from the future look back at our problems and are bewildered by them, like I'm confused by how they used to put poisonous lead in make-up, just... "how did they ever think that was okay? How did they live like that?" I hope the cruelties and hidden poisons of our world are one day so distant that they're used as fun facts in trivia games. Does anyone have an update on where things are at with the writers strike? It's disappeared from my various feeds and algorithms.

Hey Tumblr, does anyone know of any UK equivalent of or ways to support the WGA strike in the US? I'm a University art student. I have always loved writing and have masses of respect for screenwriters, authors, etc. The UK government seems fond of progressing AI but there doesn't seem to be much protest or noise in the creative community over here. Are there opportunities/petitions/organisations that are combating the lack of respect for working artists in the various industries? I'm aspiring to work in film production design but obviously there's a fight now to keep those jobs intact.

The Writers' Guild of Great Britain has stood in solidarity with the WGA during the strike and might have some resources re: other guilds/unions in film. They also had a solidarity protest in June. Any of our followers more familiar with the UK and have any tips?

Hey btw I saw a video a while back where someone was filming a guy through his window in his own house to make fun of him so I decided to report it to Twitter, writing to them about how it’s illegal to record people in their own houses without consent (in America) and they actually took down the post despite it having more than 100k likes so basically point is: if you see someone being an asshole and posting people without their consent, report that shit for exposing private information, write a note about how it violates laws (in the u.s. it is illegal to record people where they have the expectation of privacy, (their own home, a bathroom, a changing room) laws on filming in public vary from state to state so look up your local laws) and if the content posted features you, threaten to sue them even if you know you don’t have the means to sue. scare social media sites into not allowing people to record others without their consent
