One reason that the site is good is the ability to organise works. You can create folders, then folders inside those, and then folders inside of those. I’ve actually tested this and I haven’t hit a limit yet! (Currently I have 10 folders all inside each other, I doubt anyone would need much more than that but it’s still allowing me to create more inside of those)
Now, that’s nothing particularly spectacular. But another good feature is the themes. Currently there are 37 options of themes that you can use to customise your workspace but on the plus version you can create your own custom themes so the possibilities are almost infinite there.
Another positive is the option to post directly to AO3 from your document, alongside the usual options to copy as rich text/HTML/etc! You can also highlight text to share as a snippet which can be helpful in certain situations. That option allows you to customise the appearance of your snippet too.
Two helpful things for focusing are the timer and focus mode. For the timer, you can select a time (hours:minutes) and have a timer at the top of your screen. At the end, it will tell you how much you wrote in that time. Focus mode removes distractions, similar to a full screen mode but you can still see your search bar at the top of the screen, which can be helpful to not get distracted especially with things such as the spell checker when trying to write.
Also, there are a lot of keyboard shortcut options which can be very convenient! (A full list of those can be found in the question mark in the bottom left while in a document) I didn’t realise just how many there are until messing about with it
There are, of course, still some things that are less convenient about the site and some features are locked behind Ellipsus plus (none of the basic stuff, you can function just fine without it. It’s not as evil as it sounds, trust me)
Some of this is fairly basic but a lot of the features are shared with sites like google docs which can make it easier to switch over from one site to the other. I’m sure there are features that I’m forgetting too, however for now this is all I can remember and Tumblr posts do have a word limit.
