The thing with the project Hail Mary book is there’s of course a bunch of little changes and skips they chose for plot and understandability and time and just. The difference between reading a book and watching a movie. But one scene I think would’ve been funny as hell to keep is the “second in command” bit, when they’re going to Grace and running everything past him from the spin drives to the two science experts sleeping together and he finally asks why, exactly, so much is being brought to him and not Stratt or, like, whoever second-in-command is. And the others just stare blankly at him for a moment before realizing. Oh. No one told the weird American middle school teacher. Yeah, hey, you Are second-in-command on Project Hail Mary. Like we’re all aware and agreed on it.
