Field

Ok, this high, dry unmowed field is not the kind of glorious "wildflower" display you get if you plant a bunch of "wildflower seed mix". However, in its own understated way, it is marvelous. The magenta is spotted knapweed, which lives up to the 'weed' in its name by growing absolutely everywhere. The yellow is goldenrod. Queen Anne's lace and yarrow are white. There's some orange butterfly weed in there, too, but my camera didn't capture that very well.

This field get mowed after the growing season is done, to keep it open for herbacious plants. It would be great to burn it off, but there are houses close by.

Tagged by @seemsdykely for 6 faceless photos this week. I haven’t taken many photos this week (job photos excepted and I am not posting those here, too gory sorry) but I do keep taking pics of the bumblebees in my sunflowers for iNaturalist in the hope I can learn to distinguish the different varieties. I believe these show a common eastern bumblebee, a furrow bee, and a brown belted bumblebee but don’t quote me on that.
