If you were able to transition out of systemic misogyny into systemic male privilege, the patriarchy would not exist as we know it. Cisgender women would just be able to transition into transgender men and not only face zero consequences, but be rewarded for it too. Looking at the academic literature out there though, the actual material reality is that transgender men tend to have worse outcomes than cisgender women in almost every field— from sexual violence to amount paid to ability to access healthcare.

An actual Marxist material analysis of transgender men under our system would understand that while some of the most privileged in the community can get some very conditional male privilege off of the basis of being mistaken as cis men; however that doesn't equate to systemic access and the overwhelming majority of transgender men have never benefited from this and never will. Actual material analysis would acknowledge that transgender men outside the global north exist and face much harsher conditions and barriers to transition that transgender men in the west do not. Actual material analysis would note that transgender men, while men as in the gender identity, are never let into the group of men as a social class. Actual material analysis would note that transgender men are much more likely to be working class, unemployed, or in poverty than cisgender people and need extra support under capitalist systems that don't cater to them. Actual material analysis would be noting that there are not any transgender men who are in positions of significant political power, and if they were accepted as men (the socialpolitical class) they would be overrepresented into positions of power and privilege as opposed to consistently erased and left to die.

Survivorship bias is such a huge factor when it comes to which queer narratives and stories survive the march of time. For transmasculine people, the challenge has always been not only overcoming anti-queer sentiments of the day, but also contending with a lack of legal and societal personhood that put them in a position where telling their story- or even discovering themselves- was literally impossible. The level of risk involved in even just exploring your identity in secret, let alone finding community and recording your experience, was astronomically high when you were considered another person’s property, largely uneducated and expected to not communicate with anyone other than your husband, relatives and children. I’ve seen mentioned how many societies outlawed and punished gay (mlm) relationships but not lesbian ones, but the rather obvious conclusion to that is because it was seen as such a non issue that it was beneath notice, due to the lack of cis women’s ability to exist outside of the constant control and supervision of her male relatives. To say they were “privileged” for not being legally barred from sapphic relationships would be silly, because legally speaking they would’ve been at the total mercy of their owners (male relatives) if discovered, which served as punishment in itself.

sample sizes alway benefit from being bigger, but how do other factors affect the sample data? a study like this focused on california will have different results than an otherwise identical study in russia.

some important questions people often forget to ask about studies like this: does it account for race? where was it done? was the sample data from a proportionate population or is there issues like 70% being from wealthy areas despite those areas having a much lower percentage of the actual population? what about age? disability? how many subjects are stealth? does it include data for rural sectors?

like I said, trans women and trans men each have their own unique experiences, but that doesn't mean that these experiences can't overlap. hell, even cisgender people are affected by these things.
