“Groomsmen?”

Lloyd startles from his thoughts once again, whipping around to look at Yuan with wide eyes. “Is there a wedding?” A panic enters him and he looks down. “I’m not even in a suit?!”

     You’re absolutely horrified. You push your hair out of your face with both hands and keep them there, fixing Lloyd with a wide-eyed look.

     “Our wedding!! I mean -- Martel and I -- we sent out invitations!!!”

      You ball your fists against your head and turn away, hurriedly walking away a few steps before whirling around to storm back over and point a finger in Lloyd’s face. 

{❃} Marta wasn’t sure what this stuff was on the ground- some sort of slime? Who’d put this here?! She’d started looking for Emil and the monsters- surely, it had to be one of the slimes who’d done this, right? Granted, people seemed pretty okay with it… but it was so irresponsible!

However, she couldn’t get far- this stuff was hard to walk on, and before she could even make it much of a distance- wham! Someone smacked right into her.

“Yuan?!”

      “You... !”

      You grab her forearms until you can steady yourself, straightening up and narrowing your eyes as you wrack your memory. Her face is clearer than those of the strangers skating by you -- that must be significant. Who do you remember?

      Bah, you’ll just go with whatever’s closest. 

“You can’t just destroy them, it won’t work! We just gotta get out of here!” 

      “Tell me how we’re supposed to do that when those things are at both doors!”

     “The usual, hm? I suppose catching a cat shouldn’t be too difficult      to do.”

Except cats are quite quick and tricky on their feet, but he’ll keep that comment to himself. He kind of wants to see Yuan chase a cat around and fail at catching it, just because it would be very amusing for Zero. 

As if on cue, there was some rustling from above. He looked upwards, seeing the rustling of leaves from the tree.

Ah, that’s where it is. Looking over at Yuan, he beckoned him to go forward.

     “Why don’t you do the honors? I’m sure you’re good at climbing      things.”

      “That’d probably scare it off. We need to lure it down here somehow.”

      Besides, you’re pretty sure Zero is just trying to get you to act foolish. You’re two steps ahead of him this time.

Baby’s breath and a gentle cool breeze that tickled her through a window.

Martel hadn’t dreamt in thousands of years, so the first few times it’d happened to her upon entering the city… she was thankful that she’d evaded nightmares of war in favor of tales of peaceful times once yearned for. 

She dreamed of mountains of pastel flowers piled up to the ceilings, reaching far beyond what she could grasp. There were windows open wide, serving as bridge between the wooden interior and the lush gardens- a perfect harmony. The room itself was huge, stretching farther than Martel would have felt comfortable if she hadn’t been so… at peace.

Fantasies of white dresses and weddings always warmed her heart right up.

      You’re late.

      You’re late you’re late you’re late oh gods please say she hasn’t been waiting too long --

      You fling the doors open, instantly hushing the quiet murmuring inside. Rows of people, some faceless, some familiar, turn to look at you. Breathing heavily, you push your bangs out of your eyes and straighten up.

      The church is massive, made even more impressive by the windows thrown open to reveal the gardens outside. White and green silks drape across the pews. Flowers form an arch over the altar, framing a figure at the end of the aisle -- Martel in an ornate white dress, the sun’s rays bathing her in light.

      Your eyes begin welling up with tears. Whatever anxiety, whatever doubts you had, melt away at the sight of her. Your future together. 

      Music begins to play, the signal to begin walking towards her. But you remain frozen in awe.

      Not again!

      The ground is coated in a mysterious... clear slime, children and adults alike screaming in delight as they skate around. The church is just across the street, but you have to navigate across the slippery surface first.

      You run at the slime, skidding across the ground and wobbling your arms to try and stay upright.

He furrows his brow, and almost scoffs.

“No you aren’t.” He can’t be. None of his men would run out in front like this after an order. Besides, he would know who this man is with his level of skill and the way he stands out. He would know. He.. does know. But from where? When?

There’s no chance to ask further. A blade pierces through the stranger one second and in the next his assailant is on the ground after meeting the King’s. For some inexplicable reason, after all the death he’s witnessed in this one battle, panic rises in his chest at the sight of such a seemingly mortal blow.

This can’t be happening. They aren’t supposed to be here. He wasn’t supposed to die. The shock finally jolts Oz into a deeper lucidity.

“Yuan!”

The crown fades from his head, the armies around them start disintegrating, but all the headmaster focuses on is keeping his friend up right, supporting his weight.

“Are you alright?

      You grip the king’s arm for stability. The sky is black, the sand beneath you stained red, both melting into each other as the world loses its form.

      He calls your name. Your name?

      That’s right. That’s you.

      You lift your head and look up at him. Your friend. 

     “That’s what you said about the last few patches we thrust      ourselves in.”

Finding cats seemed to be Zero’s current affairs, both in the waking world and the dream world. Maybe he’s just attached to things that remind him of himself, despite the fact that he thinks so negatively of himself anyway.

     “Why are we looking for a cat again…?”

      You reach into the folds of your cape, withdrawing a folded piece of paper.

      The writing on the inside is absolute gibberish, of course. “Something about it being an object of worship, chaos befalling the country, the usual. It should be easy enough to collect the reward.”

Yuan’s voice startles him out of his reverie. What was this place? Blinking, the brunet’s gaze turns back away from the angel and he continues dreamily inspecting the rest of the surroundings.

“Church? Why do I need to be at the church?”

      “Why do -- you’re one of the groomsmen, you fool! You’re not even dressed, we’re all the way out here --”

      You gesture widely, nearly falling over.

[With a loud HONK you explode into a thousand of balloons - as you do - and scatter all over the ground, covering that pesky ring and wherever it might have fallen at. The balloon thing doesn’t last though, as you just collect yourself and rub your head where the stick hit.]
