ao3 doesn't have an app because for it to have an app, appstore will have to approve it first. and if, hypothetically, ao3 needs appstore to approve it, it will also have to abide by appstore's pro-censorship stance and start banning dark and taboo fics, which is against its own core principle of being completely against censorship.

ao3 doesn't need an app. it works more than fine without an app. the reason ao3 can allow dark and taboo fics, the reason it can allow the most disgusting and shockingly vile fics, and be completely against censorship is because it doesn't need appstore's approval. it stands on its own as a non-profit organization with functioning site and a team of lawyers protecting its platform, its users, and every single fanwork on its platform.

Okay, I promised I wouldn’t work on my vacation, but this news was too good not to share: Massachusetts just legalized abortion throughout pregnancy, becoming the 10th state to allow abortion after 24 weeks.1 At a bill signing ceremony today, Gov. Maura Healey said, “We believe that health care decisions should be made between women and families and their doctors, not politicians.” Until now, abortion later in pregnancy was only permitted to protect the patient’s life or health, or because of a grave fetal diagnosis. The Prioritizing Patient Access to Care Act changes Massachusetts law to allow abortion after 24 weeks “when based upon the professional judgement of the physician.”

“It comes down to a simple, but powerful conviction,” bill sponsor Rep. Christine Barber said. “Decisions about abortion care must remain between a patient and their provider. No one else.” Barber said she was inspired to introduce the legislation after hearing from patients who were forced to leave the state for abortion care. Kate Dineen, for example, had to travel to Maryland after learning her son suffered a massive stroke in utero. As devastating as her diagnosis was, it didn’t fit the narrow legal requirements for abortion in Massachusetts. “I am profoundly grateful that our state leaders are righting this wrong once and for all,” Dineen said today. I wish women didn’t have to relive their most traumatic moments to create legislative change, but I’m so awed by those willing to do so—all in the hope it might save another woman from similar suffering. Something that’s not getting nearly enough attention: the legislation also clears the way for clinic-based care after 24 weeks—it struck down Massachusetts’ requirement that abortions later in pregnancy be performed in hospitals. That’s a big deal!

I don't particularly feel contempt for femmes so that is an assumption... but anyway obviously butch and femme are two sides of the same coin my problem is when people talk about being butch as if your other half is inherently a femme. as if being with femmes is what makes you butch. as if being chivalrous to a femme is just part of the butch experience. half the time whenever I see people try to define it outside of just vibes and presentation they say this. and well I don't agree with that it's not the 60s anymore... and frankly I think what makes someone butch in 2026 is significantly more relaxed than others might define it

but to go back to the initial point, the idea of a butch being an automatic counterpart or opposite or something of femmes is reductive and ignores how many butches relate to butchness as its own gender identity or presentation completely absent of any dynamics that exist with other people. like, yes, butchness was initially constructed in relationship to femmes back in the 1950s and 60s, but things have changed significantly from that initial definition. butches should be in community with femmes but the entire identity should not be defined in relationship to femmes, and vice versa.

like if someone feels that butchness is defined for them in relationship to the femmes in their life, that's fine, but people can't walk around saying that's what ALL butchness should be defined as. (not saying anon is saying this, just making a point because i've seen that said before.) a lot of people identify as butch because there are many aspects of butchness that resonate with them, such as protecting people in their communities (particularly other women who present more feminine and might be subject to more sexual harassment) and presenting as masculine lesbians, not because (or only because) they are partnered with a femme. it's really alienating for butches that aren't interested in femmes. butches are one of the only queer identities that gets (incorrectly, imo) defined by existing "opposite" another identity that they are "meant" to be with and it's frankly exhausting. nobody does this to, like, bear gay men. i don't think butchfemme mimicks heterosexuality (like it's two women. that's gay.) at all, but i think the expectation that butches will always be only interested in femmes, and that femmes will always be only interested in butches, and the discomfort some people feel towards butch4butch or femme4femme, does mimick that specific aspect of pre-determined binary attraction pushed in cishet culture. there are plenty of butches and femmes that are exclusively butch4butch or femme4femme or interested in unlabelled wlw that don't identify as either.
