ok just thinking about reunions at the end of vol 2 and the way el hugs lucas so tight when she sees him because she was literally there while he was sobbing and holding a dying max in his arms begging her to stay with him and el experienced that pain and devastation right there with him and she probably knows how fucking sad and even guilty he must be feeling with max being in a coma. that hug was just everything. and it’s the way lucas and el are 2 of the people who love max the most. the way they are the 2 people who consistently showed up in max’s “happy” memories when she was being cursed by vecna. it’s the way lucas was the one who knew what max’s favorite song was. it’s “i don’t want a letter. we’re right here. I’M right here.” it’s the way el didn’t let anyone or anything; not even whole ass military helicopters, get in her way to go save max. its “no. you’re not going.”, the way el wasn’t willing to let max die. its “i just didn’t look hard enough, okay? but i see you now.” it’s “you touch her again, and i kill you again.” i just love these 3 so much.
