The Alanqar family consists of Raed (47) and his wife Amani (39), and their children Rasha (22), Rana (21), Monir (19), Mohamed (16) and Sham (4).
They have been displaced, lost all sources of income, and are suffering in horrible conditions. Their house was destroyed, and so was the university where Monir was studying.
They now struggle to get basic resources and escape the constant bombings.

I am begging the UK trans community and its allies to attend the rescheduled Mass Lobby at Parliament, now on Wed Sept 9th, 1pm-5pm, organised by Trans Solidarity Alliance.

The new EHRC Code of Practice pushes trans people out of toilets, hospital wards, and community spaces. It normalises gender policing based on appearance and stereotypes. It became statutory guidance in the UK on August 5th, 2026.
Trans people are now legally their assigned gender at birth and must join gendered spaces accordingly, but if they are perceived as their lived gender, they can also be ejected from those spaces. The guidance says: either break the law, or don’t pass too well.
A mass lobby is where you invite your MP to discuss your concerns with you in-person. Our demands have changed. Ask your MP to:
Write to Ministers and Prime Minister Andy Burnham to say they are profoundly concerned by the rolling back of trans rights, and that they believe that it is time for Parliament to legislate to protect equality for trans people.
Ask parliamentary questions focused on protecting trans people’s rights and defending trans people’s abilities to live safe and dignified lives.
Speak up both inside and outside Parliament in defence of trans people’s rights.
Meet regularly with trans constituents to understand their lived realities.
Your MP does not have to be an ally, they do not have to respond to your email for you to show up and greencard them (details below the cut.) What matters is that as many people as possible show up.
I cannot stress this enough: Showing up in person matters. It is much more effective than petitions, emails, and letters.
We have already had some wins because we took action. The 2026 EHRC guidance has already rolled back its most harmful elements because of mass campaigning by individuals like us, and groups like The Good Law Project. This summer, 166 MPs signed the Early Day Motion 240 to reject the EHRC Code of Practice, because of our campaigning. That is 1 in 4 MPs.
It is a horrible, stressful time, and I am so sorry if you're trans and live in the UK. But I was at last year's mass lobby and the line for greencarding alone stretched around the back gates. It was a record breaking mass lobby and made us impossible to ignore. Let's do even better this time. Details under the cut:

Bring your personal worries about transphobia being signed into law, and trans friends being excluded from public spaces. You are a living person who deserves dignity. Remind your MP of that. On the day, you'll get guidance and brochures from Trans Solidarity Alliance that outlines our demands. This is mine from last year.

Got a refusal or no response from your MP?
Come anyway! You can request a same-day appointment with your MP through a process called greencarding. They will come and see you if they’re already in Parliament. Even if they don’t, they’re made acutely aware of your cause because you showed up in person. This is my greencard from last year.
Here is the EHRC Code of Practice in full. It's a tough read, but some highlights are:
Organisations can’t provide trans-inclusive, single-sex services, or they risk being sued for discrimination. e.g. domestic violence support for women including trans women, men’s rugby group including trans men (12.68).
Trans people will have nowhere safe to pee. If you’re a trans man, businesses can't allow you to pee in the men's, and you can also be ejected from women’s bathrooms if you’re perceived as a man. Vice versa for trans women. EHRC suggests a ‘third space’ bathroom, which is discriminatory and unworkable for most businesses. (13.130-133)
Sports organisations must exclude trans people from single-sex competitions (13.73). A women’s only sports competition must exclude trans women because of their biological advantage or face potential lawsuits (13.74), but a trans man who has undergone testosterone treatment can also be excluded based on fairness rules (13.81).
Trans women are stripped of the legal definition of ‘lesbian’, and therefore no longer have legal protections if they’re discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation. (2.50, 2.92).

This little girl has developed a painful skin disease after months of living in a tent under extremely harsh conditions. The intense heat, dust, humidity, and lack of proper hygiene and medical care have caused her condition to worsen. what I wish people would understand about fundraising for gaza is that while everyone is desperate and I would never say not to fundraise for or donate to individual families-- I currently fundraise to support multiple friends' families-- the overwhelming narrative I see on Tumblr that the best and most ethical thing you can do is send money to individuals and there is no option for anything else is so so incredibly damaging and inadvertently lends support to the marginalization and distrust of any remaining communal social infrastructure. the sameer project, which you should donate to, talks about this in a recent video they put out. the situation in gaza is unimaginable and everyone is in need of a huge level of support, and yet this fundraising discourse by well-meaning people in the west that donating money to individuals is the only moral way reproduces societal divides wherein resources are directed to people who speak English, who have relationships with people outside of gaza, and who have internet access while hundreds of thousands are left behind.
there ARE non-ngo locally based grassroots initiatives working to meet those needs however they can, and your small donation goes a lot further with them because they are able to buy food/water/supplies in bulk at a reduced price and reach more people with less money. again I'm not saying people shouldn't fundraise for individuals because these initiatives are so limited and many people cannot access them -- but as an example, the group I fundraise with is currently serving people fleeing north gaza who are starving and have nothing, and when we fundraise enough to do cash aid distribution there's so much need that our partners can only distribute 100-200 per large family. and then I go online and see people who have absolutely no understanding of this context at all exclusively working towards raising tens of thousands for just a few people when evacuations haven't been possible for months. it's good to do whatever you can but please consider how this narrative being reproduced among westerners trying to help that there are no other options has the potential to damage groups working towards equity and wider reach however is still possible

It cost me my home in Uganda, where I could no longer live safely because of my sexuality. I was forced to flee and crossed into Kenya, hoping I would finally find protection. I was registered as a refugee by UNHCR Kenya and taken to Kakuma Refugee Camp, believing my life would become safer.
Instead, I found another kind of struggle.
Life in Kakuma was filled with fear, discrimination, and rejection. As a gay refugee, I faced hostility because of who I am. Every day became a fight to survive while carrying the pain of losing my home, my family, and the life I once knew.
Eventually, I reached a point where I felt I had no choice but to leave Kenya. I fled once again, this time to South Sudan, hoping for a chance to live in peace.
Today, I am still living as a refugee.
Life remains incredibly difficult. Finding enough food is a daily challenge. Access to basic necessities is never guaranteed. I continue to face uncertainty, isolation, and the emotional weight of being displaced simply because I am queer. Every day is about surviving and hoping tomorrow will be a little better.
This blog is where I will share my journey, my experiences, and the reality that many LGBTQ+ refugees face but are rarely heard.

Sam has found community in and around Newcastle. At drag shows and competitions, he is not just included, he is celebrated. These nights out aren't just entertainment for Sam (stage name: Celine DoOne!); they are where she is safest, most accepted, most herself. The people there see Celine as a performer, a peer, and a friend. Not as a person with a disability, but simply as Celine.
Our job isn't to approve of someone's choices. It's to stand beside them as they make their own. If that includes drag, then we help with outfits, we show up to the show, and we cheer from the crowd.

They are really awesome and people are really disgusting to them and prove why this video and why pages like open Future learning need to exist because people come into the comments saying things like "this is obviously abuse because they don't understand what's happening they have the minds of a child" and other kinds of ableist bullshit like that.
