Juvenile Great Horned Owls (Bubo Virginianus)

This is a unusual, but very iconic story. These owls were just born as some weeks go by the nest has became unstable and collapsed. Luckily for these guys sometimes a human hand is all what wildlife needs and for that we gave them a basket for them to now use. They’ve seem to take a great liking to their new home and jump in and out of the basket. These photos was taken on April 30 2026 and as of now in May to almost June the owlets have successfully branched and flew to new territories and exploration.

A fledgling barred owl still wearing his youthful down! They've likely noticed my resident deck skinks, because they are enamored with the decking.

They strut along the rail a bit.

Until they meet the garden ornaments that came with the house, that my spouse immediately claimed upon discovery, and have not moved since.

A sibling appears! A larger owl flies overhead - either a parent or a great horn owl stalking them, I got half a second visual to just register "bigger" - but they are very intent on my dessicating invasive vine pile that is likely full of small critters.

And then the siblings take a closer investigation of the beloved garden ornaments. Inedible, I'm afraid.

More screeching cries from other siblings persisted from the trees as these two flew off, no doubt still indignant about food no longer being brought to them.
