Enneagram Type Four Fixes
Authored by ENTP Mod
4-1: Quicker to bounce back from their melancholy if they perceive that they have a duty to perform. Constantly seek ways of betterment in who they are. Can be very creative, and perfection seeking. Harshly shut down or impose moral sanctions on those who hurt their feelings.
1-4: Ones with a hidden side of idealism and aestheticism. They want not only perfection but require a stamp of their uniqueness on all that they produce. Sensitive, dramatic Ones who see beauty in suffering. Glamorizing the struggle of doing things the right way, and singling themselves out for it. Express their critique of systems and people through artsy means.
4-5: Removed from reality, loner, highly creative, rejects mundane reality and prefers to not mingle with plebs, keen on studying people to compare self against them as well as to see what makes them tick. A dispassionate quest to understand their fellow humans but takes pride in not being one of the normies. Hoards information/ withdraws to counter their sense of deficiency. Competency in niche fields drives their sense of identity. 5-4: Existential. Prides themselves on their deep, intellectual streak setting them apart from the rest of the crowd. Lyrical, sensitive and emotional Five. Sense of shame because of anticipatory fear of social rejection based on being different and not understood prevails. Intense emotion finds an artistic vent such as through poetry, art etc. These arts will emphasize structure as much as beauty, and unique personal significance. (Both the above fixes can produce an intensely original thinking, dark and isolationist individual. In fact, 458/548 are known as one of the darkest tritypes of the Enneagram.) 4-6: Emotionally reactive, over-analyzing, projection and introspection, afraid to trust because of people āhurting/wrongingā them. A Jekyll/Hyde-esque dichotomous split in thinking and behavior is possible. Troubleshoots personal issues gathered on unique information they have observed about people in their life. These Fours are willing to eschew weirdness/originality in order to embrace normalcy and belonging for a sense of security. 6-4: Tug between normalcy and wanting to maintain emotional authenticity/ staying true to oneself. The linear thinking of the Six is influenced by the deeply abstract, non-linear Four. Aesthetic Six more willing to explore their dark side to experience a greater range of emotional intensity and find/ communicate their personal truths. Their sense of identity is constructed around being a dependable, loyal, suspicious, over thinker and solid member of the societies they belong to. 4-7: Idealistic bent, epicurean, flamboyant fun loving Four. Dramatizes both ups and downs. Struggles with embracing negative emotions as part of their identity vs re-framing them positively to give it a glossy finish. Like galaxy glitter against an inky black sky. 7-4: Somber, sensitive and emotional Seven. Explorations inspire artistic expression and search for meaning, self-identity. Visionaries who seek to create something of deep, personal significance to them. Tones down the expansive and flamboyance of the Seven. Aesthetic Sevens, torn between natural idealism and optimism vs the pessimistic tendencies of the Four. 4-8: Reactive/ combative, authentic, prizes novelty, prides themselves on staying real, amplifies emotions externally, takes no crap from anybody, extremely intense persona. Extremely self-restrained rather than self-revealing. Power seeking Eight, can be extremely touchy to criticism and fly off the handle. Self - protecting. Tastes in art may range from starkly realistic, gritty and honest portrayals to ones with an animalistic beauty. 8-4: Artsy, aesthetic Eight. Ambitious and power seeking, they wish to fill their homes with beautiful objects not so much for art appreciation but as a symbol of the power and influence they have amassed. Can go a little OTT in their behavior to suppress their hidden inner feelings of shame and inadequacy. A more withdrawn, moody loner Eight who act like they are on a personal mission. 4-9: Withdrawn, compassionate, feeling invisible or insignificant, may feel comfortable in self erasure. Calmer, peace seeking Four. Not as melodramatic or intent on disrupting peace with intense emotional expression. Likely to veer towards Zen kind of art, minimalist designs and muted hues. 9-4: Inner turmoil due to intense emotions that they do not allow themselves to express. Establish peace and calm in conflicted situations by honoring the individuality of each party involved. Calm, ambivalent and aesthetic. Weak sense of self. Struggle between self denial and self expression. Can be prone to slothful behavior induced by melancholy moods.
