Not Anyone Who Says
by Mary Oliver
Not anyone who says, âIâm going to be careful and smart in matters of love,â who says, âIâm going to choose slowly,â but only those lovers who didnât choose at all but were, as it were, chosen by something invisible and powerful and uncontrollable and beautiful and possibly even unsuitable â only those know what Iâm talking about in this talking about love.

Arthur Rackham (1867-1939) âLook, Lizzie, look, Lizzie, Down the glen tramp little menâ for Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market (1933) Source
âOh,â cried Lizzie, âLaura, Laura,
You should not peep at goblin men.â
Lizzie coverâd up her eyes,
Coverâd close lest they should look;
Laura rearâd her glossy head,
And whisperâd like the restless brook:
âLook, Lizzie, look, Lizzie,
Down the glen tramp little men.

If youâre into mermaids and mermen, my collection of vintage merfolk is going swimmingly.
A fabulous bronze sculpture, Der Seltene Fang (The Rare Catch), 1896, by Ernst Herter, is found in Berlin's Viktoriapark. It depicts a fisherman struggling to keep hold of a twin-tailed mermaid caught in his net.

â¨I think the thing that strikes you when you come back to âThe Little Mermaidâ after all of these years is the simplicity and innocence. Thatâs in the look of it, and thatâs in the sound of it - Alan Menken

"Ahead of the landmark 40th Anniversary of Jim Henson's seminal film in 2025, BOOM! Studios proudly presents the FIRST EVER graphic adaptation of A.C.H. Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, join Sarah for the very first time, or discover this brand new adaptation of her surreal adventure through the twisting and changing paths to the castle beyond the Goblin City, determined to save her brother Toby from the Goblin King, Jareth. Dance to the magic as writer Kyla Vanderklugt (Demon in the Wood) and artist Giorgio Spalletta (Alice Never After, Alice Ever After) visualize the entire story for the first time!"
Cotton Candy Fields sent me on a wild goose chase of trying to find ANY published works with a similar vibe, and the closest I could get was Corrupt Idol (very different plot and themes, but a similar "he's come back to take me again" dynamic with forced proximity and a terrified, hypervigilant fmc).
Any recs for books, online works, etc. that are similar to or maybe even inspired CCF that those of us who can't get enough of this stuff can devour in between chapter releases?

"Behold, the grave of a wicked man..."
by Stephen Crane
Behold, the grave of a wicked man, And near it, a stern spirit. There came a drooping maid with violets, But the spirit grasped her arm. âNo flowers for him,â he said. The maid wept: âAh, I loved him.â But the spirit, grim and frowning: âNo flowers for him.â
Now, this is it â If the spirit was just, Why did the maid weep?
