I bet he's really good in bed.
If they could tell something to their younger selves. Personal interpretation.
for the record pianjeong size difference is that young jeong jeong is on the short end of average height and Built, broad and sturdy and strong, meanwhile young piandao is tall but also kind of an underfed orphan, very lean and agile. and then jeong jeong loses a significant amount of weight while living on the run meanwhile piandao's picked up blacksmithing and generally filled out a bit as he's aged so when they see each other again for the first time jeong jeong's like oh no (sexy dilf) and piandao's like oh no (look how they massacred my twunk)
This is how I’ve thought of it too lol. Like my headcannons for their types is Piandao likes authoritative men with a bit of meat on them, whether that’s muscle or fat or both. I think that young Piandao would have been attracted to a young Prince Iroh because he would have had that military bod and he would be having an internal battle about liking the royalty aspect because of the authority and also not liking it because he thinks of himself as anti-establishment. Jeong Jeong didn’t have a lot of time to explore his preferences imo because he was in denial for so long but he likes men who are a bit rebellious with lean athletic builds ranging from skinny with a little muscle to young silver fox territory. Also JJ likes long hair and when Piandao’s hair is longer after the war Jeong Jeong is obsessed with it.
I think when they get older, Piandao probably gets with a few men of his choice before the end of the war and keeps a few non-serious lovers after he starts living at the castle. He doesn’t care too much about JJ’s body type after they get back together because he loves Jeong Jeong so deeply as a person and finds him attractive because of that love so it doesn’t interfere with their relationship. Jeong Jeong however is getting the best of both worlds with the dilf of his dreams and someone who deeply cares about him and who he loves back. Anyways, this is why they should kiss.
YES!!! i feel like piandao's attraction to these strong authoritative men is all tied up with his nonbender abandonment trauma - he's drawn to these big strong firebenders bc he will never be one, he's jealous and obsessed and gets a thrill out of dominating them in bed and making the big strong guys weak to him, a gangly nonbender. meanwhile jeong jeong keeps such a tight leash on everything, is so very repressed, that he's drawn to boldness, a rebellious streak, someone lean and clever and scrappy who can take him down and take control of a situation. they're perfectly matched :)
post-war, i do think piandao cares about jeong jeong's body type, in the sense that he's worried. it's not healthy! he cares about jeong jeong's well-being and that means making sure he eats and regains his strength. thankfully his butler is a great cook. jeong jeong never gets back to the way he was - he's not training like a soldier anymore - but he gets some meat on his bones again and piandao loves it not just bc that's his type but because he's glad to see jeong jeong healthier and happier. it takes some time, but he gets his dream too :)
and yes that is why they should kiss

having a multi year long character obsession becomes like a abstract thought experiment at some point
If you were handcuffed to your girl blorbo with magical unbreakable handcuffs for 24h, would you be okay with this?
I trust her, I’ll be fine
I trust her, but it’ll be a stressful 24h
It depends on what kind of day we’re having
This is gonna suck…

I think fanfiction as a medium is different enough from mainstream literature in the tools it offers writers that it's a shame that it's not talked about more often. And it's not me saying "fanfic is better than books xD" because that sort of mindset is a symptom of people who aren't particularly well read in either medium. I'm just speaking of like... The little things you get to do with a fanfic that you genuinely can't really do in an original story.
I had a big fanfic in a previous fandom where one of the big reveals was the involvement of a kind of infamous villain, whose presence was built up to and foreshadowed through the whole fic until his reveal without ever mentioning his name, so that the name drop would be a gut punch. It worked especially well because of who the villain was and his presence in that fandom space specifically (it's very complicated) and if it was an original story this reveal wouldn't work at all the way it was written in the fic. Because if you don't have a predisposition to think about that character and his relationship to the hero in a very specific way, then just seeing their name won't do much to you; the reveal and the recontextualisation it pushes upon you hinges on your previous knowledge of the source material.
I think it's an interesting tool fanfic authors are given. One of my favorite fanfic of all time is partially a re-imagining of its source material's canon, and something it does is introduce antagonists much earlier in the story or deepen npcs' stories. It then works to evoke a tragic irony that again wouldn't work if you didn't know the source material, and it's something the author obviously has a lot of fun with.
You could call it cheap or a crutch and I mean, yeah, sure, it is a little bit: the fanfic relies on previously established emotional bonds and stakes to achieve its goal, and in some cases it saves the author from having to 'properly' build up its stakes. But I think it's INTERESTING that it has that tool at its disposal. I think it's a fun thing to play with and I think these built in expectations and emotional bonds are especially why I find story driven aus in particular to be fascinating in the amount of ways you can play with them. You know??

"ugh why wasn't Katara chief in lok" well !! because in the SWT its an elected position not hereditary and Katara is more likely to blow up a government building than get involved in politics. To me. Also she's like 80 in the show, meemaw doesnt need to pull a Joe let her rest.
