going straight from picking up toph to ba sing se means that most of what we've seen of toph is her pretending to be a prim and proper lady, and even her more blunt attitude has mostly shown up as scolding them for blowing her cover or lecturing them on how to behave. she comes off less like a brash little girl who pretends to be proper and more like a noblewoman who just happens to earthbend

honestly it could be a decent modification of toph's character, that she's still kind of repressed and clinging to the noblewoman status, hasn't quite Liberated herself yet the way that og toph had. but they've also doggedly hit all of her iconic insult lines (twinkle toes, sugar queen etc.) and made comments about her not wanting to wear shoes so they're like. not committing to either version

iroh explaining how to redirect lightning would've been cooler if we'd seen it before (though i suppose there is a possibility we have and i just forgot bc last season was so bad)

also i feel like it's kinda important that initially zuko wants to learn lightning to match azula and then iroh pivots to redirecting lightning when zuko can't get the hang of it and it's like a reflection of how zuko isn't going to find his true strength and destiny by being like azula and his father he has to forge his own path
