even leaving aside how bender/nonbender conflicts don't make sense 10 years after atla and that trying to bring back the airbenders while antagonizing the last airbender is a stupid plan it's also kinda wild how "the denied" want to be benders bc they believe they don't have value or power as nonbenders and the movie just doesn't refute their beliefs at all. like in atla when a nonbender felt inadequate compared to benders there was a whole episode about how you're worthy as you are & have so much to offer meanwhile the resolution for this group of people who think they're worthless without bending is to give them special status based on the .2 seconds they were benders

was just thinking about star trek as a franchise and when it works/when it doesn't and i feel like it's giving me a new appreciation for lok. an installment of a franchise with all new characters & conflicts that expands the lore & the universe and only features legacy characters in brief cameos? that's the dream. that's a star trek tng right there. like if i'm criticizing lok or any aspects of the atla franchise please call me out if i start acting like doing something original isn't the IDEAL for a new installment

even leaving aside the ableism of the blind people touching faces thing i also think toph just straight up wouldn't need to touch zuko's face to know he has a scar because she has seismic sense. like she can perceive the general outlines of people's bodies and the shapes of their features, maybe she can't "see" every microexpression or every pore but she can probably tell that one side of zuko's face has a bumpy texture and moves differently than the other side. it's a pretty 3D feature and i think maybe the assumption toph can't "see" it comes from people forgetting that
