Elton John Revisits “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” on 50th Anniversary of Hitting No. 1

Cameras were rolling Nov. 3, 1977, when Kiki Dee joined Elton John on stage to sing their smash hit, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.”

And on July 24, 2026, the 50th anniversary of the song becoming John’s first(!) U.K. No. 1, the video of that performance makes its YouTube debut. Rarely performed live, “Heart” is at least interesting in this context - though John is the only singer properly mic’d - but the song is … not good.

Sound Bites was 8 when “Heart” beat it to the top of the charts, and he and his friends sung it as, Don’t go smelling my fart, because, even then, we knew the song stunk.

Still does.
