Synchronize: Part IV — The Pledge
You're walking between Brittany and Emily. Ashley is ahead with Leticia. Matthew is beside Leticia, his arm around her shoulders, his hand hanging loose near her collarbone.
Matthew is tall. You noticed that the moment Leticia introduced him outside the food court. Tall and broad in a way that makes you aware of your own shoulders — how narrow they are, how the university hoodie hangs off them like a tent on a stick.
"Okay." Ashley stops outside a storefront. The window display is all silk and lace — bras on invisible mannequins, panties arranged in fans, a chemise draped on a velvet form. "We're going in."
The sign above the door reads Delicate. In cursive. Pink.
You and Matthew both stop. The assumption is automatic — the same assumption you'd make at any lingerie shop in any mall. The girls go in. The boys wait outside. That's how this works. That's how this has always worked.
Matthew leans against the wall outside the store. Phone already out. Thumb already scrolling. A man who has done this before.
You move to join him.
"Sweetie." Brittany's hand catches your elbow. Light. Warm. "You're coming with us."
You blink. "I — what?"
"Inside." She nods toward the door. "You're coming in."
"I can just — I'll wait with —"
"You won't." Her voice is soft. Certain. The same voice from the pool deck. The same voice from her dorm room. The voice that doesn't ask. "You're our bestie. Besties come in and help."
Matthew looks up from his phone. His eyes move from Brittany to you. Back to Brittany. "Wait, he's going in? Should I —"
"No." Leticia turns. Her hand rests on Matthew's chest. "Not you."
"I — what?"
"You're waiting out here, baby." She smiles. Easy. "He's coming in with us."
Matthew's brow furrows. You know the look. You've worn it enough today.
"Why does he get to—"
"Because he's a beta bestie, baby." Leticia says it like she's explaining a rule. Simple. Established. "It's different."
Beta bestie. The phrase lands on you. Warm. Heavy. The same weight as teammate in the change room. The same weight as good girl in Brittany's dorm room.
Matthew stares. "A what?"
"A beta bestie." Ashley is grinning. She steps closer to Matthew. Her head tilts. "You know what that means?"
"No, I — is that like a—"
"It means he comes shopping with us. He helps. He carries bags." Ashley's eyes are bright. Amused. "It's a whole thing."
Matthew looks at you. You can see the question forming — do you want to do this? — and you can feel the answer dying in your throat before it reaches your tongue.
"I — I don't mind," you manage. The words are thin. Watery.
"See?" Leticia pats Matthew's chest. "He doesn't mind. So you wait here, baby. We'll be twenty minutes."
"I — can't I just—"
"Matthew." Leticia's voice drops. Not angry. Not sharp. Just lower. The register of a woman who has explained the boundary and is now enforcing it. "Do you want to be a beta bestie?"
The question hangs.
You watch Matthew's face. The flicker behind his eyes. The brief, involuntary calculation — what would that mean, what would I have to do — and then the flinch. The small, instinctive retreat.
"I — no. I guess not."
"You're sure?" Ashley leans in. "Because beta besties are pussy-free, Matt. Just so you know. Like, completely."
Pussy-free.
The words moves through you. Your body understands it before your brain does — a low pull in your stomach, a flush climbing your neck, a twitch between your legs you feel against the cotton of your boxer briefs.
"And I know how much you love Leticia's pussy," Ashley adds. Sweet. Bright. "So. You wait here. Right?"
Matthew looks at you. His eyes drop — just for a second — to your jeans. To the place where your little guy sits small and soft and unremarkable.
"Did you agree to that?" he asks. "The pussy-free thing?"
You open your mouth. Close it. Open it again.
Did you agree?
You don't remember agreeing. You don't remember being asked. But you also don't remember refusing, and the not-refusing feels like a kind of agreement, and the agreement feels like something that was already true before anyone said it out loud.
"He agreed," Brittany says. She's beside you again. Her hand on your back. Warm. Guiding. "Didn't you, sweetie?"
"I — I don't—"
"Shh." Gentle. The way you'd quiet a child. "It's okay. You can tell him."
Tell him what?
"Tell Matthew what you are, sweetie."
Your throat is dry. Matthew is watching. The girls are watching. The mall corridor is empty and bright and full of light and everyone is watching and your little guy is stirring in your underwear — that slow, familiar swell, the heat that comes when Brittany uses that voice, when she tells you what to say, when she puts words in your mouth and they come out as if they were always yours.
"I'm…" You swallow. "I'm pussy-free."
The words leave you. Quiet. Thin. But it leaves.
Matthew blinks. "You're—"
"He's pussy-free," Brittany confirms. Her hand moves in slow circles on your back. "His little guy is ornamental, not instrumental. He's never going to fuck a girl. Ever."
Ornamental. Not instrumental.
The words are precise. Clinical.
Matthew stares at you. His mouth opens. Closes. He looks at Brittany. At Leticia. At the other girls. Back at you.
"And you — you agreed to this?"
"He's agreeing right now," Brittany says. "Aren't you, sweetie?"
You nod. You don't know why you nod. The nod comes from the same place the words came from — somewhere below your throat, below your brain, somewhere in the warm fog that Brittany's voice creates when it drops into that register.
"Good." Brittany's hand stills on your back. "Then let's make it official."
Official?
"That's a wonderful idea," Emily says.
Brittany smiles. "He should pledge. Like a Boy Scout motto. Don't you think?"
"Oh my God." Ashley claps her hands. "Yes. A pledge."
"That's so cute," Leticia says. She's already turned away from Matthew. Already focused on you. "A little pussy-free pledge."
"Right here?" Emily glances around the corridor. "In the mall?"
"Right here." Brittany's hand moves to your shoulder. Turns you to face her. Her eyes are brown. Steady. Certain. Eyes that already know how this ends.
"Repeat after me, sweetie."
Your heart is hammering. Your little guy is hardening — that slow, insistent swell, the fabric of your jeans pressing against him, the friction constant and maddening. Your cock responding to her voice the way it's been trained to respond.
"I…"
Your mouth opens. The words come out. Thin. Quiet. But they come.
"I…"
"…pledge to be pussy-free forever and ever," Brittany says. Helpful. Practical.
Your voice cracks on forever. The word is too long. Too final. But Brittany's eyes are on yours and her hand is on your shoulder and your little guy is throbbing in your jeans and the words keep coming.
"…pledge to be pussy-free forever and ever."
"A good beta bestie keeps his little guy in his panties…"
Panties. The word lands. You don't own panties. You don't wear panties. But the word is in the pledge and the pledge is in your mouth and—
"A good beta bestie keeps his little guy in his panties…"
"…and never, ever tries to put him where he doesn't belong."
The last line. Your voice is barely a whisper now. Your face is on fire. Your little guy is rigid against your thigh, pressed sideways in your jeans, the head leaking into your underwear.
"…and never, ever tries to put him where he doesn't belong."
The girls erupt.
"Oh my GOD!" Ashley squeals.
"That was ADORABLE." Emily is bouncing. "The little voice! The way he said forever!"
"Can we make him do it again?" Leticia is grinning. "Like, every time we see him?"
"Once is enough for now." Brittany is smiling. Warm. Pleased. "He meant it. Didn't you, sweetie?"
You nod. You can't speak. Your throat is closed. Your little guy is pulsing in your jeans and the pledge is still hanging in the air between you and the girls and Matthew is still standing by the wall and he heard all of it and—
Matthew. His face is unreadable. He's looking at you with something that might be pity or might be confusion or might be relief — relief that it's you and not him.
"I'll just…" He gestures vaguely at the wall. At his phone. "Wait."
"Good boy," Leticia says. The same tone Brittany uses on you. Light. Warm. Dismissive. She turns away from him like he's already been filed. "Let's go, girls."
The inside of Delicate is softer than the mall corridor.
The lighting is warmer. Diffused. The walls are painted a blush pink and the carpet is thick under your feet. There are mirrors everywhere — full-length, gilded, positioned at angles that make it impossible not to see yourself from every direction.
You're standing in the middle of a lingerie shop. Surrounded by bras and panties and chemises and corsets. Silk and lace and cotton. Pink and red and black and white. The air smells like rosewater and new fabric.
The girls scatter. Ashley heads for a rack of bralettes. Emily drifts toward a wall of thongs. Leticia picks up a chemise and holds it against herself, checking the mirror.
You stand still. Your little guy is still hard. The pledge is still echoing in your head. Your jeans feel too tight.
"Here." Brittany appears beside you. She's carrying a basket. Wicker. Pink. "You can hold this."
You take it. The basket is light. Empty. You're holding an empty basket in a lingerie shop while girls shop around you.
You're helping. That's all. You're carrying the basket. That's what besties do.
"Ooh, try this one, Em." Ashley holds up a bra — black, lacy, demi-cup. "Your boobs would look amazing."
"It's so cute. Okay, I'll be back. I need panties too." Emily takes it. Disappears into a changing room.
Leticia is holding up two chemises — one red, one black — and frowning at her reflection. "Brit, red or black?"
"Red," Brittany says without looking. "The black is too formal."
"You're right." Leticia puts the black one back. Adds the red to the pile in your basket.
Your basket. The basket you're holding. The basket that now contains a red chemise that Leticia will presumably wear for Matthew — the man waiting outside, the man who loves her pussy, the man who is not pussy-free.
The thought arrives and settles and feels like nothing.
"Try this too." Ashley tosses something into the basket. A bralette. White. Delicate. "For under your sweater."
Emily emerges from the changing room. Adds a thong. Black. Tiny. "These fit great."
The basket is getting heavy. Your arms are full of girls' underwear. Your little guy is softening — the fear and the arousal cycling in waves, the heat banking and returning.
"Okay." Brittany appears beside you again. "I think we've got enough for us."
"Agreed," Ashley says.
"Same," Emily adds.
"Definitely," Leticia says.
The girls are gathered now. Around you. Around the basket. Their faces have a quality you recognize from the change room — that warm, conspiratorial brightness. The look of women about to do something they've already decided on.
"But we're missing something." Brittany's voice is light. Casual. "Aren't we?"
The girls exchange glances. Small. Knowing.
"What?" you ask. The word comes out thin.
"Well." Brittany tilts her head. "We've got things for me. For Ashley. For Emily. For Leticia." She pauses. "But we don't have anything for you."
"For — for me?"
"For you, sweetie." Her hand reaches out. Adjusts the hood of your hoodie. A maternal gesture. "You're our beta bestie. You helped us shop. You carried the basket. You made your pledge." Another pause. "You should have something pretty to take home."
"Oh my GOD, yes." Ashley's hands fly together. "Panties. We should get him panties."
"That's what I was thinking." Brittany smiles. "A pretty pair of panties for our bestie."
"Yes yes yes—" Emily is already moving toward a display.
"He's going to look so cute—" Leticia is right behind her.
"Wait — I — I can't — I don't wear—" You're stammering.
"Sweetie." Brittany's hand is on your arm. Warm. Steady. "You just pledged to keep your little guy in your panties. Remember?"
The pledge. The words you said. The words that are still hanging in the air outside the store, still echoing in the corridor where Matthew is waiting.
"I — that was — I didn't think—"
"You didn't think you'd need panties?" She smiles. Gentle. "But how else will you keep your promise, sweetie?"
How else. The question has no answer. Or rather, it has one answer, and the answer is you can't, and the you can't means you need panties, and the needing panties means you're standing in a lingerie shop while four girls select underwear for you.
"We should match," Brittany says. She's looking at a display now. Running her fingers along the racks. "You and me. That's how it works."
"How — how what works?"
"The configuration, sweetie." She says it simply. Like she's naming a piece of furniture. "I'm your directive female. The girl in charge of you. The girl who manages you and your little guy."
She pulls a pair of panties from the rack. Holds them up. Pale blue. Lace trim. A small bow at the waistband. "So our panties should match. That's how people know."
"Directive female," Emily repeats. Savoring it. "I love that term."
"It's the right one," Brittany says. "He needs to know what I am to him. And the panties help him remember."
You're staring at the panties in her hand. Pale blue. Lace. A bow. The kind of panties you've seen in ads, in windows of shops you've walked past a thousand times.
Panties that are about to be yours.
"I — can I — is there a different—"
"These are the ones." Brittany's voice is final. Warm. Certain. "These match mine. These are what your little guy is going to live in."
Your little guy. She's talking about him again. The separate creature. The pet she's training. The thing that isn't you but lives between your legs and responds to her voice and twitches when she says good girl.
He's stirring again. You can feel him. The slow swell. The heat. The fabric of your jeans pressing against him as he fills.
"Here." Brittany holds the panties out to you. "Hold them."
You take them. The fabric is soft in your hands. Lighter than anything you've ever worn. The lace trim tickles your palm. The bow sits small and pretty at the waistband.
"Feel that?" Brittany's voice is low. Close. Just for you. "That's what your little guy is going to feel. Every day. Soft and pretty and honest."
Honest. The word lands differently than the others. Heavier. Like it means something you're not quite ready to understand.
"His panties should be honest packaging," Ashley says. She's beside you now. Looking at the panties in your hands. "For an honest little guy."
"Exactly." Brittany nods. "He's small. He's quick. He's ornamental. The panties say that. They tell the truth."
The truth. Your little guy is rigid now. Straining against your jeans. The head pressing against the fabric, leaking into your underwear. The underwear that is about to be replaced by—
"Come on. You can pay for these." Brittany takes the basket from you. Her hand brushes yours. Warm. "And then we'll go home and you can try them on properly."
Try them on. Properly.
"Okay," you hear yourself say.
The girls move toward the register. The basket full of their underwear and your underwear. Your panties. The pale blue ones with the lace trim and the bow. The ones that match Brittany's. The ones that announce what you are.
You follow them. Your little guy throbbing in your jeans.
The cashier is a woman in her twenties. She looks at the pile of lingerie. Looks at you. Looks at the panties Brittany is holding up separately — the pale blue ones, the ones for you.
"These are for him?" she asks. Neutral. Professional.
"They are." Brittany smiles. Warm. Easy. "He's our beta bestie. He just pledged."
The cashier's eyebrow lifts. Just a fraction. Then she nods. Scans the panties. Puts them in a separate bag. Pink tissue paper. A little ribbon.
"Here you go." She hands the bag to Brittany. Not to you. To her. "Congratulations."
"Thank you." Brittany takes the bag. Her hand finds your back again. Warm. Guiding. "He's very happy. Aren't you, sweetie?"
You nod. You can't speak. Your throat is closed. Your little guy is leaking. The pledge is still in your head. The panties are in the bag. The bag is in her hand.
This is the fourth in a new series about a boy, a women's one-piece, and the synchronized swim team that sees exactly what he is — one practice, one fitting, one managed orgasm at a time.
