A lot of EU fans will be champing at the bit to tell you “well just try the audios or the books or the comics, or Classic Who if you haven’t seen it,” and like, as someone who does consume all of that, I get it. A lot of it is great stuff. And if you’re down to try it, I know some great recs, and some other people who can point you toward even more.

But I can’t and won’t promise that the EU stuff will fill that hole for you. I’ve read and listened to most of the Ninth Doctor EU material and I still ache that we didn’t get more of him on screen.

So it’s also okay to just be sad that the main show isn’t gonna be here for a while.

You’re allowed to have a preferred format for how you experience a story.

And “there’s other stuff, have you tried that?” shouldn’t be used as a way to dismiss or mock that feeling. I’m an EU fan and I’ll be sad too.

This is relatively long, clocking in at 18 minutes, but stick with it. A final mention from Matti Lazar's webinar. He couldn't play all of this, of course; in fact, he really only mentioned it. But I was interested enough to look it up, and I was rewarded with this stunning, fiendishly difficult choral setting of the beginning of the Torah, Bereshit, the creation of the heavens, the earth, and humans.

Copland does a couple of interesting things here. The first is that, as the famous seven days of creation come to an end with the verses about the Divine resting on the seventh day, Copland doesn't stop. He keeps going through Bereshit 2:7. The thing about Bereshit is that it actually contains several different creation myths, all kind of strung together, and Copland is giving you the first two of them -- the famous one, and then another one thrown in as a bargain.

The second interesting thing that Copland does, as Lazar pointed out, was that, like the good atheist Jewish boy that he was, Copland made sure to end his piece with a powerful celebration of humanity as the apex of creation.
