The clichĂŠ that when women are liberated men will be liberated too shamelessly slides over the raw reality of male domination â as if this were an arrangement in fact arranged by nobody, which suits nobody, which works to nobodyâs advantage. In fact, the very opposite is true. The domination of men over women is to the advantage of men; the liberation of women will be at the expense of male privilege. Perhaps afterwards, in some happy sense, men will be liberated too â liberated from the tiresome obligation to be âmasculine.â But allowing oppressors to lay down their psychological burdens is quite another, secondary sense of liberation. The first priority is to liberate the oppressed. Â Never before in history have the claims of oppressed and oppressors turned out to be, on inspection, quite harmonious. It will not be true this time either. - Susan Sontag

money just obscures people's sense of what something is so much. they'll say yes prostitution is fine people can choose what they want to do for money. and then you're like well what if it's money to buy drugs or some other thing they deem unsavoury and it's like well they're adults they can choose how to spend their money. and then you can keep going, but it gets to the question of: why not just cut out the middle man, then? what about if a woman 'chooses' to have sex in exchange for pills? and people go silent really quick lol. but it doesn't even have to be something that's indicative of addiction or financial desperation -- what about in exchange for a fridge? a room for the night? a meal? a new pair of shoes? interrogate why it suddenly feels bad and exploitative when you take out the middle man. what is money to you?
âWhen Sibbi asked me to help him find Svidi,I lied about her whereabouts, took the money, and killed Sibbi immediately. And that was after searching all over Skyrim for a potion of glibness so I could persuade Svidi to let me help her. I couldnât bring myself to intimidate her. Iâm aghast that such a misogynistic quest made it into the game with such limited options for making Sibbi pay for his hypocrisy.â

Why are you in jail? "Look, we all have our flaws; mine is that women can't get enough of me. So I had this little affair going on while I was betrothed to a beautiful girl named Svidi. Well, she finds out and she tells her brother, Wulfur. Then her brother attacks me with a knife... I mean, I had to defend myself!" So you got arrested for his murder? "Exactly! And now I have to stare at these bars for eight months. Can you believe it? I was about to let that wench marry into the richest family in Riften, and this is how she repays me. I'd do anything to have that whore's head on a platter. All I need to know is where she is." Your two options: Good luck finding her from there. "Amusing." I'll help you find her. "That's the spirit. Find her and I promise you'll be well compensated."
Meaning, you can choose to find a woman who's escaped her murderous, cheating ex and help him kill her. Why is this so casually implemented into the game? Do you have any information on Svidi? "She was a young woman... buxom, with long flowing black hair. She used to sing the most lovely songs to me when we were courting. I've never heard a voice so beautiful. All that talent will go to waste when I'm finished with her."
"When I find that bitch, I'm going to wring her little neck." You can then find out that Svidi has started a new life in another town under another name. You can either persuade or intimidate her to tell the truth. She will then tell you her side of the story about Sibbi Black-Briar: "Sibbi and I were to be married. We were supposed to be happy together forever. Then I found that wretched poetry from Svana. When I confronted Sibbi about it, he threatened to kill me. I was scared so I told my brother Wulfur. He went to talk to Sibbi for me and... and... Sibbi killed him. My brother wasn't even armed! When I heard what Sibbi did, I fled. Now you've found me, and you're going to tell him where I am." You can then return to Sibbi and tell him where she is, lie about her leaving to Morrowind to which he says, "So, the whore thinks the Black-Briar reach ends at the border of Skyrim, eh? She'll soon discover her mistake.", or say nevermind. The only real alternative is to tell him from the get-go 'good luck finding her from in there' (the jail) or to lie to him. He cheated on her, killed her brother, got jailed for it and wants to hunt her down and murder her. And that's the most 'fuck you' options you got? I don't care how evil you like to play your character, the few options available basically encourage you to assist a murderous misogynist in hunting down his victim. It reads more like a misogynistic revenge fantasy for incels, and given the very real life context of pandemic male violence against women, it's hard to just shrug off and ignore. I'm by no means surprised by misogyny in Bethesda games (or any game), but some examples are just more disturbing than others...
im so tired of the "we shouldnt criticize andrew tate fans, they're kids they don't know any better đĽş" and framing these boys as victims meanwhile those boys are being misogynistic bullies to the girls in their classes.
boys are coddled and treated like their beliefs and actions are harmless meanwhile girls' suffering is ignored. sure the boys are "just kids" but so are the girls.
imagine being a girl trying to learn in this sort of environment.
teenage boys are engaging in abusive behavior towards their girlfriends that they learned from andrew tate and your primary concern is the left doesn't coddle men and boys in this discussion about misogyny?
framing all andrew tate supporters as "young boys who don't know any better" ignores the support he has among adult men. in the UK, 26% of men aged 18-29 and 28% of men aged 30-39 agree with his opinions on women.
looking beyond andrew tate specifically, young men are more likely to feel threatened by feminism than older men. 50% of gen z men believe that feminism has gone 'too far'. there is an epidemic of misogyny among boys and young men.

oh my god itâs laika day everyone drop what youâre doing⌠we honour a little dog who was sent up into space 65 years ago today. she was found as a three year old stray mongrel wandering the streets of moscow. her ability to endure hardy conditions got her chosen as the candidate for a journey she was never meant to survive. she passed away seven hours after liftoff. I hope she died dreaming of chasing rabbits up in the stars I love u laika forever and ever
Never forget, she was loved
She was not killed as an act of cruelty, or simply neglected. People cared about her, and the many space dogs who survived proves it
She was loved
great ritual for honoring Laika's memory (from another thread)
Sorry, but sending a living animal on a literal fucking death mission is not a loving act. Humanity DID NOT NEED TO GO TO SPACE! This little experiment did not save human lives. Laika did not need to die and she was NOT loved enough.
Laika didnât âpass away,â she died a horrible and slow death of overheating while under extreme stress, something the scientists who sent her to die knew was likely to happen.
After the Soviet Union had lied about it for years in their propaganda, in 2002, Russian scientist Dimitri Malashenkov revealed that Laika had survived only about five to seven hours after liftoff before dying of overheating and panic. It was belatedly made known that Laikaâs pulse rate tripled during takeoff and only came down somewhat during weightlessness.
This wasnât a test of how the body responds to overheating in space that would at least yield useful data to prevent future deaths. Laika didn't ensure the survival of future dogs, who had to endure the same stress. This happened because The Soviet scientists had insufficient time to perfect life-support systems, due to political pressure to launch in time for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution. That is what she died for.
You donât do that to an animal who you love. This was not a noble sacrifice worthy of celebration, it was an unimaginably stressed out dog cruelly sent to her death because her captors believed that animals are expendable, and that it is perfectly acceptable for them to suffer in order to serve frivolous human interests. A sentiment that many of you apparently still agree with.

These are all comments left on a tiktok talking about men sexualizing their female partners when theyâre just doing things around the house in comfortable clothing and itâs making me so depressed. Thereâs a huge theme running through all of them of not wanting to be perceived, and I know that wording is just kind of trendy right now, but itâs also the same thought process that results in a non-binary or male gender identity. If being seen as a woman is interchangeable with being sexualized, then discomfort with sexualization is discomfort with being a woman. Notice too the few references to women turning off all sexuality, or âbecoming asexualâ in response because again, if female sexuality is this bad yucky feeling they get when men leer at themâin their OWN HOMEâthen maybe they just arenât sexual beings.
Honestly, I'm by no means an expert on radical feminism, but reading through your arguments against feminist women sleeping with men at all... I kind of agree. And think you're correct. It IS a conflict of interest.
It makes me think of what I've experienced in my own life over the past few years - I'm a lesbian, but my friends are all bi or het women. And at the start of university, when we were loser nerds and nobody had had even a first kiss yet, we could all talk about feminism are were on the same wave length. Since then we've all found people, partners, started dating, had sex - and suddenly feminism has become this very difficult topic for us. I can't speak freely anymore because I'll hurt their feelings when I say something that implies their Jakies aren't angels (literally multiple of them have explained to me how their boyfriend isn't like other men because he sometimes randomly meows. It sounds like satire).
And more and more, they try to bring these guys with them to stuff. We used to agree that a space with even one man in it is just not comparable to a women-only space. A hang out, a lunch, a party, god even my DnD games have been infiltrated. But now they can't say that anymore, everything has to be toned down and "it's not so black and white" and the dreaded "but not all men...".
I don't know if my friends are happier now with their boyfriends (it doesn't really seem like it). But it certainly looks like they can't speak or think as freely about feminism anymore, because those men maybe wouldn't like it or would feel hurt by it, and that's now a priority.
My straight friends, we're only allowed to rag on their bfs after they've broken up with them. If I say anything about the red flags I see before then, they totally get all offended. Rose colored glasses istg
Even if women don't think their feminism changes when they get a man, it 100% does. Your feminism had already inherently changed the moment you got a man... because you literally got a man.
Straight, married, and still agree 8).
shoutout to the women who would def already have committed suicide if it wouldnât traumatize their friends and pets and family and inconvenience everyone and necessitate expenses and cleanup and embarrassing amounts of effort and energy and formalities on the part of their loved ones so we just are here on borrowed triple-mortgaged time
i cannot express how much we need to rally together as a society to hunt Justin Timberlake for sport
âWhat one faces at this time are efforts at disempowerment. That which is threatening, such as feminism and [veganism], must be redefined, delimited, disempowered. Often one individual holds the position of redefining, delimiting, disempowering the [vegan].
A feminist's emphasis on sexual violence is judged as hysterical; a [veganâs] emphasis on the death of animals as emotional.
Both feminists and [vegans] are accused of negativity because they appear to require that something be given up (the most obvious trappings of femininity; the meat on the plate) as opposed to their own perspective in which they are emphasizing the positive choice (aspiring to emancipation and liberation; choosing vegetables, grains, and fruits).â

âQuestions of definition often predominate. Whereas feminists were parlaying questions which trivialized feminism such as âAre you one of those bra burners?â, [vegans] must define themselves against the trivializations of âAre you one of those health nuts?â or âAre you one of those animal lovers?â
While feminists encountered the response that âmen need liberation too,â [vegans] are greeted by the postulate that âplants have life too.â
Or to make the issue appear more ridiculous, the position is forwarded this way: âBut what of the lettuce and tomato you are eating; they have feelings too!â
The attempt to create defensiveness through trivialization is the first conversational gambit which greets threatening reforms. This pre-establishes the perimeters of discourse.
One must explain that no bras were burned at the Miss America pageant, or the symbolic nature of the action of that time, or that this question fails to regard with seriousness questions such as equal pay for equal work.
Similarly, a [vegan], thinking that answering these questions will provide enlightenment, may patiently explain that if plants have life, then why not be responsible solely for the plants one eats at the table rather than for the larger quantities of plants consumed by the herbivorous animals before they become meat?
In each case a more radical answer could be forwarded: âMen need first to acknowledge how they benefit from male dominance,â âCan anyone really argue that the suffering of this lettuce equals that of a sentient cow who must be bled out before being butchered?â
But if the feminist or [vegan] responds this way they will be put back on the defensive by the accusation that they are being aggressive.
What to a [vegan] or a feminist is of political, personal, existential, and ethical importance, becomes for others only an entertainment during dinnertime.â
