This is my latest redesign for an alternative hardcover edition of the first Captive Prince book.
My initial inspiration came from one of Quel’s artworks (this one), and I completely fell in love with the idea of a red version. But I couldn’t resist seeing how it would look in blue, too… and now I think I’ve ended up with two versions that I genuinely can’t choose between!

Alternative cover design for the Captive Prince trilogy!!!
I wanted to experiment with a different color palette for this edition, and I ended up really loving the result. The idea was to keep the same cover layout across all three books, changing only the colors while using the same arabesque endpaper pattern throughout the trilogy to create a cohesive visual identity.
For now, it’s just a concept. I’m still deciding whether to print this version or my more recent redesign 🤔

“You certainly have a type, don’t you?” he manages, moving forward slowly to stroke the cornsilk strands of the white horse. Damianos comes up to his shoulder, planting a soft kiss to the exposed skin just above his collarbone.
“What do you think?”
“She’s exquisite, of course.” Laurent continues petting the mare, the motion calming the thrumming in his chest. “Is there anything I should know about her?”
He feels Damianos smile against him. “Well, she’s yours now… and she’s very fast.”

I’ve finished the entire Captive Prince trilogy, including the side story The Summer Palace, which feels like a soft epilogue to Kings Rising, the final book in the series and I genuinely don’t know how to move on 😭
These books were insane in the best way possible.
The enemies-to-lovers arc in this trilogy is unlike anything I’ve ever read before… slow, tense, painful, and so incredibly satisfying once it finally pays off.
I finished the entire trilogy in about 4–5 days, which is honestly shocking for me since it usually takes me that long just to finish a single book. I just couldn’t put it down.
The dynamic, the political tension, the emotional buildup… everything was just addictive. I kept telling myself “one more chapter” and suddenly I was at the end of the book.
It’s not just a romance, it’s a story about trust, identity, power, and choosing someone even after everything. It was very satisfying to see enemies-to-lovers trope done so well… and I don’t think I’ll be recovering from it anytime soon.

Been working on chapter 12 these past few days, got one more scene to write. It's a great scene!! I check the word count because it definitely feels like less than the monstrous 12k chapter 11, and i don't want this one to be too long...
WHY. How is it 14k?! And not finished. 😭 i checked twice on different computers because how can it be.
The good news is, seeing as I'll have to cut it roughly in half (15k+ for a chapter is simply too big), it means the next chapter is already substantially written. Editing aside. But it's not going to have the presence of what becomes 13 as that will now have two scenes I've been itching to write for a while.
Anyway all this to say ive got no clue where or when this story got so out of hand. It genuinely felt like a fast, snappy shorter chapter. 8k at most, or so i assumed.
