I found a tool that letās you figure out whether men are dominating the conversation or not.
Seriously thatās all it does. Ā Iām feeling cheeky today, so I thought Iād share.
welp, iāll be using this in every meeting i attend
So I work at a pretty progressive company so at t the last meeting I brought a click counter and I clicked it every time a man cut someone off. I used a pen pad to keep track of the women cutting someone off. Because it happened twice. Both times after theyād been cut off and were trying to finish a sentence. Eventually the men noticed the clicking and would pause and look around. At the end of the meeting I told them the results. In a one hour meeting men had cut someone off a total of 236 times. Two hundred and thirty six.
I was in a meeting at work and was getting cut off my the one man on the team. Ā I said, evenly,Ā āPlease let me finishā and kept talking. Ā I think I had to do that (or similar) twice in the meeting. Ā Afterward, though, is what was incredible. EVERY SINGLE WOMAN on my team (there were 14 team members in total, including our female mgr, who also complimented me, btw) came up to me that afternoon after the meeting and told me how amazed they were, how proud, how well Iād handled it, etc. In other words, a man kept interupting a woman, and ALL OF THE WOMEN NOTICED. Ā When a woman called the man out and continued on without letting him interupt ALL OF THE WOMEN WERE THRILLED.
Think about that for a moment.
