recent updates to google docs have made it difficult to select images and replace them. i decided to share here the methods you can use to edit images on google docs:

I had to turn this off, but it's something that allows Windows and anyone using your device to generate text/images.

It's never done that before so I looked it up and turns out Roku TVs have added all sorts of creepy things in the privacy section since I last checked.

One of which being they take screenshots from what you're watching and send them to third parties to identify it.

martial arts studios/boxing gyms:

look for ones with a lot of women. this means that the vibe isn't so insufferably macho that no women want to be there.

places that have kids classes tend to have instructors who are gentler and nicer

the women (especially small women / teen girls) don't exclusively partner with each other. there's a chance they'll mostly partner together because they're friends, but when they never work with the men it's often because the dudes are obnoxiously aggressive and try to hurt their partners.

pilates/yoga/barre/spin/etc:

instructors who aren't skinny little waifs. they'll more likely to focus on having fun and being healthy instead of just losing weight

classes with poc, queer people, and fat people. this is a sign that the vibe isn't toxic rich skinny conservative white mean girl hour.

the people there aren't all dressed in lululemon with matching pink equipment. maybe a couple have that (whatever, they might be perfectly lovely people) but plenty have normal, mismatched, well-loved equipment and clothes.

people look ugly. it's not a photoshoot, it's not for tiktok, it's for fun and health. they're not obsessing over how they look.

overall tips:

if you get to do a trial period or trial class, is it fun? does it seem like the instructor wants everyone to be miserable? are people laughing, chatting, or goofing off? are they kind and welcoming to you? are you enjoying it?

look for places that are excited to offer accommodations. not just willing, but genuinely interested in making sure people can participate. even if you personally don't need any (yet). are there people with injuries? disabilities? people who modify the moves? are those people yelled at or are they helped? chances are you'll get fucked up at some point and you'll want to be at a gym that adapts instead of shaming you.

diversity. don't go to gyms where everyone looks the same. those have a vibe and it is not a good one. I called out specific examples above because of my experience with boxing and pilates, but it applies everywhere.

getting back into movement can feel overwhelming when you're starting from zero or just trying to build consistency. so i made a 5-week schedule that focuses mostly on abs + glutes, with upper body, mobility, and rest built in too. nothing extreme. no gym required. mostly pilates-based, gentle but still effective.

this routine is for building core strength, better posture, and glute activation — not pushing to exhaustion every day. i wanted something sustainable that doesn’t burn me out by week 2. if that’s your vibe too, feel free to try it with me .ᐟ

why pilates:

pilates works really well for me because it's low-impact, doesn't require a ton of equipment, and actually engages muscles i usually ignore. also, the more i focus on form over reps, the more results i see.

why abs + glutes?

this routine is mostly centered around abs and glutes because core strength helps with literally everything. posture, stability, energy levels. and strong glutes support your whole lower body. walking, standing, even sitting feels better when those muscles are awake. also it just feels really good to feel strong there. and yeah maybe part of it is summer body energy. not in a toxic way. just wanting to feel good in my body and take up space on purpose.

what’s not in here (on purpose):

you won’t see long runs or heavy lifting in this plan. not because those aren’t valid. they’re just not part of the season i’m in. this is a soft consistency era. an i don’t want to dread movement era. something i can actually stick to without burning out or losing interest by week two.

videos are 20 to 40 mins max. no talking/minimal. peaceful and very easy to follow. you can always swap out days or stretch the schedule longer. the point is habit, not pressure. consistency, not perfection.

there are 23 videos in total and i don’t use a different one for every single day. i rotate based on how i feel. some days i want something more chill, other days i go for the harder ones. a few workouts are more intermediate, but i also included beginner ones in case my energy is low or i just need something gentler.

you can follow it exactly or switch things out. it’s flexible on purpose. the point is not perfection — just progress that actually feels good ౨ৎ˚₊

Before I get going, I’m 75% deaf, as some of you know, semi-reliant on hearing aids and lip reading. My first languages were Makaton sign and then BSL. I now use spoken English.

There are a lot of issues I find with how deaf people are represented in books, when represented at all. I would love to see more deaf and hard of hearing characters in the books I read- without having to read books specifically about deaf/HoH people- but when I find them, they’re grossly undercharacterized or stereotyped. Authors write them in a way that sets signing language characters apart from speaking characters as if they are inferior, and this makes my blood boil.

Some technicalties

I’ll keep this brief.

You may have heard that “deaf” is a slur and you should use “hearing impaired”. Don’t. I’ve never met a deaf or hard of hearing person who believed that. Use deaf for people who are deaf, and Hard of Hearing (HoH) for people who lack hearing. These can be interchangeable depending on the person. This is why sensitivity readers are a useful part of the beta process.

Sign language is incredibly varied. It developes in the same way as spoken language. Fun fact: in BSL there are at least half a dozen ways to say bullshit, my favourite of which is laying your arms across one another with one hand making a bull’s head sign and the other hand going flat, like a cowpat. It’s beautifully crude, and the face makes the exclamation mark. Wonderful.

There are different sign languages. Knowing more than one would make a character multi or bi-lingual, even if they are non-speaking.

Makaton is basic sign language used by children, and it mirrors the very simple language used by toddlers.

Yes, we swear and talk shit about people around us in sign language sometimes, and no, it isn’t disrespectful to have signing characters do this. Just remember that we also say nice things, and random things, and talk about fandoms and TV shows and what we’re having for dinner, too.

Each signed language is different from another. ASL and BSL? Nothing alike. Just google the two different signs for horse.

Remember that sign language is a language, equal to the spoken word

Therefore, treat it as such. Use quotation speech marks and dialogue tags. You only need to explicitly state that this character uses signed language once, and then let your modifiers and description do the rest.  It isn’t a form of “sub-speech" or “making hand actions”- sign language is a language all on its own: it has its own grammar rules, syntactical structures, punctuation, patterns, idioms and colloquialisms. For example, “what is your name?” becomes “Your name what?” with the facial expression forming punctuation in the same way that spoken English uses alterations of prosodic tone (inflections). There is even pidgin sign; a language phenomenon usually associated with spoken language.

In the same way that you would describe a spoken-English character’s tone of voice, you would describe a signed-English speaker’s facial expressions and the way that they sign- keeping in mind that these things are our language’s equivalent of verbal inflection.

So please, none of that use of “special speech marks” or italicised speech for sign. If your viewpoint character doesn’t understand signed speech, then you take the same approach that would be used for any other language they don’t understand, like French or Thai. E.g “He said something in rapid sign language, face wrinkling in obvious disgust.” is a good way of conveying this. The proof that you’ve done this well is in whether or not you can switch “sign language” for French or something else, and it would read the same.

Don’t be afraid to describe how things are said, either. Sign language is such a beautiful and expressive way of talking, and to see a writer do it justice would be truly fabulous. Putting this into practise:

“Oh, I love maths!” She said, fingers sharp and wide with sarcasm. She raised her eyebrows.

“I’m sorry.” He replied and made his face small, but could not keep the grin forming. She was starting to laugh, too.

If you don't have access to the Group editor, (likely to happen if you're on base windows) you can do this as well by opening your Registry Editor app, then inputting this after your 'computer' or whatever the initial segment is. (Mine is computer. If I just try and paste the below string it gets SO mad at me)

Navigating to your "turnoffwindowscopilot", hit modify, and set the value data to 1.

If done correctly, it'll look like this.

While we're at it, you can also get rid of the integrated search, (or that thing where it searches the web when you search anything, whether or not you want it to) and such through regedit as well.

Integrated search will have you going to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer

Navigate to your "DisableSearchBoxSuggestions" bit, if you don't see it, you can make it by right clicking and creating a new registry D-Word key of that exact name. Edit the key, set it to 1. It'll look like this if you do it right!

To get rid of Windows Spotlight, (The thing where it pulls up ten billion pages on windows start page, shoving ads in your face and cluttering everything) we go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DesktopSpotlight\Settings

And set "Enabled State" To 0. If you do it right, it'll look like this!

Disabling edge on startup will also help a fair deal with processing speed and the like. This you can do in all sorts of ways, the easiest being turning it off entirely on startup through settings in the like.

If you want to kill it *entirely*, though? :)

In regedit, run along to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft

Navigate to your MicrosoftEdge key subcategory. If you don't see it, you can make one! Note, this is a KEY, not a d-word. *inside* that subcategory, we want to either make or find the D-Word key of PreventLaunchEdge and set that to 1 in the same way as all the others. It'll look like this.

Aaaand while we're here, I'd HIGHLY recommend shanking Killer Networking Services. It's just bloatware. (Ostensibly it's supposed to monitor your network bandwidth and even things out, but that really means it's constantly monitoring and pinging things, which eats up the bandwidth you DO get, and also chunks your computer's processing power.) Getting rid of it entirely is borderline impossible, since it's set to redownload on regular updates and intel is very pushy with its updates.

This you can do by opening your Services.msc, which basically shows you all the background stuff that Windows does. Find Anything with Killer in the name, right click it, go to properties, and disable startup. It should look like this, if done successfully. It will probably reenable itself in time/in later updates for windows, but it's a quick fix. I'd also check your TaskScheduler app to make sure that nothing's scheduled to open up there, either.

If you CAN completely kill Killer services through uninstalling and the like, I would warn that at very least for my computer, the only ethernet/lan support applications that are available ARE Killer's. When you download updates, you really do have to do it manually and ONLY download the ethernet services, or just be cool with not having Lan functionality.

One last thing, not a shit application but is a shit service. If your computer's constantly overheating or just warm, you likely have Turboboost enabled. (Default setting that you can't change) If you want to be able to turn it off and drop your temps by like 40 degrees, in Regedit go to

(Note- This isn't the string copy paste from the reddit thread, this is mine that does the same thing. If my string doesn't work for you, check the reddit thread string. If that doesn't work either, you can follow the path and find it pretty easily. Probably has like, one letter of difference somewhere. The bits all start the same, though, so it's easy to find.)

and go to "attributes". Set the value from 1 to 2, and now in your advanced Power Plan settings in control panel, you'll be able to *see* turbo boost and turn it off.

It'll look like this, and in power options, a successful disabling of boost should look like this.

Turning off quick startup's also a good call, since that basically stops your restarts from actually shutting things down properly.
