transmasculine erasure is just so wild. its genuinely like people have blinders. you'd think it would be impossible for someone to make a ludicrous statement like "masculinity is always rewarded and encouraged over femininity" or "a trans man couldn't be mocked for his masculinity, because that would mean questioning masculinity itself," you'd think people would automatically go "well obviously that's not true, people seen as women are actively encouraged to be feminine and to not be masculine, yes femininity is seen as lesser but people seen as women are meant to be lesser and are supposed to be okay with and enjoy this, like this should be so obvious that we shouldn't even need to go over specific examples of how untrue it is" but no. you can say stupid bullshit like that and people will not only take it fully seriously but will genuinely get mad at you if you point out how blatantly wrong it is.
genuinely anti-transmasculinity feels like this ominous looming black void in the middle of feminism that everyone just pretends isn't there, and you are meant to stand around it and act totally normal, and if you go "hey um isn't it weird how no one talks about the ominious looming black void? it makes me feel kind of uncomfortable" everyone looks at you like you are insane and gets mad at you and tells you there is no void and thinking there's a void makes you a misogynist and also if there was a void it would be your fault it exists in the first place. and also it would be kind of a funny, perhaps even good, thing if you think about it. but there is no void! so shut up :)
you can say these things and not only a bunch of people fail to challenge you on it, you can even publish it! those quotes are literally lines out of whipping girl!!!!
Once you recognise anti-transmasculinity, it is impossible to ignore the gaps in even the most basic of feminist discussions. Like, as a brief example, I was watching a few of those Smosh Reads Reddit Stories videos on YouTube, just to have something on in the background while I cook, and whenever any conversation came up regarding women, womenβs rights, womenβs autonomy etc. (which is pretty often, due to the nature of the Reddit posts) it takes all of five seconds for a point to be made that should also include transmasculine people, and the lack of acknowledgment just makes the discussion itself feelβ¦ unfinished.
Itβs infuriating, because these are progressive people, and Iβm fairly certain thereβs a transmasculine person on their team. Occasionally theyβll throw in the obligatory βwomen and people who have periodsβ as an afterthought, but it never goes further than that, as if they havenβt connected the fact that the people being referred to in that statement are transmasculine people (and non-binary, intersex people etc.)
Like, at this point Iβm just venting, because transmasculine erasure is so crazy that I canβt really wrap my head around the fact that no matter how progressive a group of people are, itβs almost guaranteed that we will be forgotten the moment any feminist discussions will be brought up.
βPregnancy should not be tied to womanhood because some women canβt get pregnant.β And also trans men exist.
βBeing a teenage girl is far more traumatic than being a teenage boy.β Have you ever spoken to a teenage trans boy.
βMen do not understand what itβs like to be taught survival methods from a young age.β βMen do not understand what itβs like to fear walking home at night.β Trans men do. Black men do as well, but weβre obviously well past an understanding of how intersectionality works.
And on and on it goes, and trans men have to sit back and stay quiet about how everything being said is something that has also affected us (and in a lot of cases, still does, because that shit doesnβt go away the second we transition). Yet, if we point it out, itβs either a quick βyeah yeah sure and trans men tooβ (well you didnβt even try to include us until it was pointed out to you but this is still the best case scenario) or a downright βweβre not talking about men, stop making everything about menβ (no one ever makes it about trans men).
Itβs like being buried alive. With every single one of these conversations being had without us, we get further and further away from liberation, and closer and closer towards radfem ideology becoming the norm in feminism.
Critical Role Campaign 4, Episode 30 - βHere in the Darkβ
Plus bonus Matt reaction:
Today's wasp of the day is the jewel oak gall wasp (Acraspis quercushirta)!
Credits: photo 1, photo 2
Formerly called Acraspis macrocarpae, this extra round nugget is like many gall wasps and has generations that alternate between sexual and asexual reproduction. In spring, both male and female wasps will emerge after overwintering in their galls and go on to lay eggs on oak leaves that will induce their own galls. With the falling of autumn leaves, out from the now detached galls pops the wingless females who will trek to another tree to asexually lay more eggs that will overwinter to become the next spring batch.
Alternating between sexual and asexual reproduction is a special type of what is referred to as "cyclical parthenogenesis". Many animals (notably some insects and reptiles) resort to this as a way to stretch out and conserve genetic resources when environmental factors are less than ideal. What makes oak gall wasps special is the very structured pattern of it they follow.
The problem with studying the deep ocean is that humans need light to look at things, the depths of the ocean are extremely dark, and what lives there is accustomed to spending most of its time in that darkness. So when we go down there with submersibles and turn on Big Lights to see, we invariably and dramatically alter what's going on, in the same way that it's generally difficult to observe the natural behaviors of terrestrial animals if you whip out a megaphone and shout HEY GUYS WHAT ARE YOU DOING at them first.
A humble snubnose eelpout on its way to the whale fall buffet when some nearby humans give it a quick, unintrusive study:
I put this in the comments but feel it needs a reblog- Check out some of Dr Edith Widderβs work on light in the deep sea! Among other things, she used the bioluminescence of stoplight fish to deduce wavelengths which most deep sea animals canβt perceive and used that to create light filters to be able to film with minimal disturbance! And thatβs how we got 25 minutes of giant squid footage!!!!

Iβm starting to doubt that Iβm ever gonna get around to FCG, so hereβs a roundup of the Bells Hells in historical art styles alongside an illustrative example of the art style used.

love the camera guy even gets to bump into a mirror for us
Okay, I love everything about this hall of mirrors:
Traditional mirror mazes are dark and creepy. This one is brightly lit, and colorful.
The triangular grid makes it that much more disorienting.
The pillars help to obscure the difference between the mirrors and the openings -- so it doesn't NEED to be dark.
All of this combines to make it much more fun and entertaining and much less "I gotta get out of here before Mr. Dark drags me off to the soul-sucking carousel".
I had a dream last night that I had invited a lot of people including a lot of executive leadership for some sort of training meeting, but due to one of those nightmarish video-call-wonβt-work-for-some-reason anxiety-dream things, was late logging in. (In the dream, logging in created a portal that transported you to a reserved physical meeting space.) However, when I physically entered the meeting, it was into a bizarre situation where a director was already chairing, thanking everyone for attending, thanking someone else for setting it all up, and handing over to an external trainer.
Disoriented, I realised that someone else had stolen my meeting, taking advantage of the fact that Iβd gotten so many directors etc. into the same room, and had spent time and resources arranging a desirable room and portal-setup. Bewildered, pained, and in anxiety-dream logic unsure of what MY own meeting had actually been for, I sat down to take the training. There had been pre-reading (I hadnβt done it) and we were supposed to bring in a piece of work (I hadnβt.)
βThis,β I said, βis like one of those dreams!β And in realising that I had simply aged out of the forgot-about-an-exam dream, and my shock at realising that I had simply created the professional equivalent, I stood up to leave. This caused everyone else to realise that it was a dream. They became cross with me for saying this, as this realisation destroyed the linkages to the hybrid-working portals! Now they would have to get back to their homes physically, by public transport!
Because I had booked the meeting - IT WAS MY MEETING!! THE MEETING RECOGNISED ME AS CHAIR!! - I simply picked up my laptop and left π
So if youβre still having school-anxiety dreams, take heart! They mayβ¦ evolve οΏΌ?

trobed canon confirmed
It's important to note that Chekhov's Gun was not originally about foreshadowing, but a piece of advice to playwrights about how every element in a play should have narrative relevance. The corollary to Chekhov's Gun is that if a gun mounted on the wall in act 1 is never used at all in the entirety of the play, then it should be omitted from the play entirely.

Agatha and Rio under the moon
A few weeks ago I got really frustrated that the local goodwill I go to every so often had blocked off/closed its public restrooms since the last time I had been there. I'm talking like the bathroom signs had been ripped off and doors barricaded by the furniture section. It bothered me so much I started drawing this on the way home.
I'm currently waiting for my goodies to show up for a bigger store update I'm planning for the end of the month. BUT, since I finished this and can print some stickers from home anyways, I figured, why not share it now?
Have made it available as a sticker you can buy from my ko-fi shop with free shipping! π½πππ
