It’s the weirdest thing, I’ve read so much destiel fanfic, I confuse reality with canon lmao just the other day I thought Dean gave a mixtape in canon

For the longest time I could’ve sworn there was an episode where Dean only had hours to live and his one objective was to see Cas before he ran out of time.  I wanna say they sat in the backseat of a car together?

Oh man, and I was convinced there was this time when this angel called Dean Cas’s “human weakness” and paralleled Dean with this lady he had been obsessively in love with. Damn, it must have been a really solid fic. I wish I could remember the name though…

I read this one angsty fic where Cas was killed in battle and while Sam ran off to deal with the aftermath, Dean just collapsed next to Cas’ body because he couldn’t remember how to function. But don’t worry, I’m sure the author is just exaggerating their totally platonic dude bro relationship. It’s not like the show would ever ACTUALLY do that. I think it was titled “All Along the Watchtower” by AO3 user Andrew_Dabb if you guys are interested.

Remember that really cute one where they were married husbands and bickered the entire fic and Sam was awkwardly caught in the middle of their domestic feud, but in the end Dean apologized and let Cas know he wasn’t really mad at him, he was just worried. So funny and sweet!

What about the one where Dean thought Cas was dead or something and kept seeing him, like Sam did with Jess after she died! And then he finds out Cas isn’t really dead, but he’s escaped from IDK, prison or somewhere, and he’s all filthy and shaggy. I STG the bit where Dean first sees him all cleaned up was SO HOT, HOLY SHIT, even though Cas was in his trenchcoat and suit jacket and you couldn’t see anything. *sigh* They’d NEVER give us anything like that in canon, dammit.

I could SWEAR I read a fic that had Dean and Cas sitting at a table, right before they were gonna go out to face some big bad of some kind (an archangel, maybe?), and Dean used his best pick up line on Cas… but Dean also said something about Bert and Ernie being gay and Cas wouldn’t die a virgin… geez what was the name of that fic again?

oh there was one i read, i can’t remember the name off the top of my head, but the angels realized how strong dean and cas’s bond is and made cas kill thousands of deans so he would be broken enough to fight as an angel again… but even with all that training, he couldn’t kill the real dean. in fact, dean is who broke the connection!! i wish they could do something like that in canon

There’s this real cool one too where Cas had been gone for like way too long and everyone thought he was dead for good, but then as fate would have it Dean met him casually but Cas had lost his memories or smth, he was like living a whole other life lol so he didn’t know who he is and Dean plays along til a friend of them, prolly Meg, snaps Cas out of it and Dean returns him his old trenchcoat (bc yes he kept it can u believe it!!!!) and then says smth like “part of me always believed you’d come back” askfjsgh but sure yeah that’d never make it to the actual show *sighs*

There was also that AU where Cas is a cashier at the Gas ‘n’ Sip and Dean is his former roommate who threw him out when he fell on hard times because their other dick roommate insisted it was Cas or Dean, but now Dean feels terrible about it so he goes to visit Cas and just see how he’s doing and stares wistfully at him bagging groceries through the window until he finally manages to get up the nerve to talk to him and goes in with this HUGE grin on his face and reminds him of the good times they had together…but THEN he finds out that Cas has a date with someone who isn’t him so he tries to help him dress to impress (mainly by unbuttoning his shirt) all while doing some more wistful staring…until later that night, once Cas’s date goes horribly, Dean picks him up again and they drive off into the night and spend it together. I don’t remember the title but the username was bobo_loves_cas.

OH gosh, I remember that one where Dean had lost all will to live but then Cas came back from the dead and Dean was overjoyed that Jack found a case that was tangentially related to cowboys so he had a perfect excuse to get newly-resurrected Cas to wear a cowboy hat and play Texas Rangers with him while they investigated. Cas was quoting Tombstone and Dean was going all blushy and struggling to maintain his composure, and Cas also discussed Dean’s sleeping habits and made him coffee. we need to get some quality fluff like this in canon.

Oh I remember this really good one where Dean was taking confession and he told the priest all about how there were feelings and people he wanted to experience differently. That was a good one.
