throwing up bc i rewatched fishes to make that post and the idea of carmy working so carefully on his drawing of the bear to give to mikey cause if he can just make him see it he’ll have to let him work there he just needs to see how beautiful it can be and so he’s trying so hard to make it perfect and packing it carefully in a carry on or holding it on his lap on the flight to chicago and he has to frame it and everything and he doesn’t even mention it until mikey tells him he does care about him he probably wouldn’t have even given it if mikey hadn’t said that but he did so he’s hopeful and he gives it to him and it’s the only time he smiles the whole ep and then when he comes back mikey’s GONE !!! after all that build up and work and anxiety and uncertainty and hope he comes back and mikey left and nothing changed :(
anyway the thing about sydney/carm is that people read them as romantic because they're twin protagonists and they are each other's narrative parallels, and what they need isn't to kiss and make up, what they need is to be friends. i think they're both very lonely people and while carm is remedying that with claire and sydney is finding friends in marcus and tina, what they need is like an intellectual equal who challenges them they need a Best Friend and i think they can find that in each other. while i get why they might be seen as romantic i think a lot of the "evidence" for sydcarmy is actually just a colossal failure to just work together. on both parts. they see themselves in each other whether they like it or not their whole relationship is built on mirrors, self respect and respect for the other. They just need to hang out
fuck it. reviving this account

me, looking up the voice actors for the Star Trek animated series: Oh, how nice, they were able to get the main cast to come back.
me, scrolling down to see the other actors:
I am fucking crying, I am laughing so fucking hard.
“I believe Miss McGivney was the first person off the street to see me in my Spock costume, and her reaction was one of immediate, obvious interest. ‘Oh,’ she breathed, lifting a hand to my-excuse me, to Spock’s- ears. ‘May I touch them? They’re so attractive…’ I blushed a deep, decidedly un-Vulcan shade of red, and obliged. It was the first inkling I had of Spock’s effect on women.”

where are the puritans. where are the cowboys. where's the hypersexualized revolutionary uniforms. where is the red scare. where's the cointelpro chic. where are the comic book characters bodypaint. where's the midwest states ominous billboards. where is baron von steuben and WHERE the FUCK is lassie

“tumblr is free btw” maybe for you. this app has cost me everything
the one thing tos is better at than any other star trek series ive watched so far is aftercare … like they give us the serious episodes but then we always get a nice lil scene on the bridge where kirk is like “haha wasn’t that fucked up? glad it’s done! [homoerotic little quip to spock that makes me feel ok again] off to see the stars!” and the other series will just beat you with a bat until you can barely see out of one eye and then let the credits roll
In a way I feel we all share Richard’s ‘fatal flaw’ when reading The Secret History.
All of the terrible crimes that are committed are written in a way that makes you almost forget what shitty people Henry, Francis, Camilla, Charles, and Richard are. The reason we dislike bunny from the start is because his dialogue and entire character doesn’t fit the aesthetic of the story — therefore he must go.
The way richard recounts his time at Hampden is very aesthetic, which shows the fatal flaw mentioned at the very beginning. It is almost as if he is not looking back with regret but with longing, missing the lens that he used to view life from. and the fact that we have made that aesthetic our own proves that we too have a longing for the picturesque (at all costs).
having gay sex at the funeral of the homophobe you murdered is activism people wake up!!!
