I swear I didn't want to write these words out of shame and embarrassment, but what happened to us in the Gaza Strip—the destruction, the genocide, the starvation of the people—is beyond imagination. My older brother, who was our provider, was killed by a treacherous bullet to the head. He was our only support, the one who provided us with food, and now we go to bed hungry, ravaged by the hunger that has consumed our bodies.

A few months later, my mother died from cancer that ravaged her body. We couldn't find her any treatment, medicine, food, or clean water until she passed away from the intense pain and hunger.

Now it's just me, my brother, and my father. We can't find the food and medicine I need because I suffer from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which causes me to have difficulty breathing and choke in the middle of the night. I never imagined I'd reach a point where I'd be standing in line at a charity just to get a little food for my wife and baby. I'm disabled and unable to work, yet I try every day to bring home something small so my family doesn't go to bed hungry. The hardest feeling in life is seeing your child cry because they need milk and you can't provide it. My baby urgently needs milk and diapers ($70). I never thought I would write something like this, but my sister is going through a serious health condition and urgently needs treatment that we cannot afford on our own. Every day feels heavier than the one before, but we are still trying to hold on to hope and do everything we can for her.
