"These instruments are time machines," says musician Steev Kindwald, and refers to the Indian double flute Alghoza. Kindwald has been studying the Alghoza in Rajasthan for 20 years – playing the Alghoza is the first thing you do when you wake up and it is the last thing before you go to bed. It is much more than just practising: playing Alghoza is a state of being, a way of life, an artistic expression and a recourse to the musical creations of earlier generations. Steev Kindwald is also a virtuoso Jaw harp player not only on the Morchang, but especially on Asian plucked Jaw harps. Kindwald further is making flutes and jaw harps. Many of his instruments are documented on Kindwald's Facebook page. Find some of his instruments in the Dan Moi Shop: https://bit.ly/3fzcgWt A radio portrait in German language about the music and work of Steev Kindwald will be broadcasted this Sunday evening on BR Klassik. The programme by Helen Hahmann reports on Kindwald's extensive oeuvre. Next to music by Kindwald, previously unpublished sound documents from the musician's archive can be heard. The broadcast will be available online for 7 days next week. https://bit.ly/2R0zjzL
