My cat had a bad morning. PATREON
My therapist, who specializes in adults with ADHD, recently told me that all of her clients need a three day crash period after a big life change. Finish the semester? Crash. Change jobs? Crash. Go on a really cool, really relaxing vacation? Crash the moment you get home.
It's true of literally all of her clients. She works with a lot of them to put systems in place so that their crashes are only three days. This includes the high-powered execs who travel regularly for work. It does not matter how successful or high functioning they are - they have ADHD, and crashing is just part of the process of living with it.
I'm sharing this with all you ADHD friends out there, just in case you (like me) start shaming yourself if your crash lasts more than one day. It turns out three days is kind of the best case scenario. Be kind to yourselves!
my YouTube algorithm has been showing me a lot of horse racing recently and since the Kentucky derby is today, the last few days all my recommendations have been filled with every middle-ages dudebros podcast about gambling and betting strategies and How To Pick The Real Winner and how to min-max your bet and bla bla bla. Buddy I’ve already got my favorite horsie picked out and it’s because he’s Silly.
reasons i like the horsie Great White:
he's about 6 inches taller and 200lbs heavier than any other horse in the field. big ol honse.
his record kind of sucks and when an interviewer asked his trainer "what do you think [the horse] will need to do to win the derby?' the trainer just said "get a lot better."
the horse was deadset on eating the landscaping shrubbery during the interview
thats all i need, absolutely sold, go get em Great White.

i love truck stops in winter bc i love a little good old fashioned reconnaissance. i’m at a wyoming truck stop eating taco bell with a bunch of random truckers discussing road conditions like we’re in a high fantasy tavern & inn and we’re warning each other about monsters and highway men. everyone talking about where we’re coming from and going to and how bad it’ll be getting there.
THE tallest man i’ve ever seen in real life just stopped me in the hallway by the coin operated laundry apropos of nothing and asked “which direction are you going?” i said east and he said “good” and walked away.
i caught up with him and asked why and he said “west’s no good right now. i just came from there.”
apparently a truck jackknifed and has traffic backed up ten miles but he sounded for all the world like he just found his village raised to the ground by an evil mage’s army
...it's super cool in a 'historian with goosebumps' kind of way that this whole experience is essentially timeless.
As long as we've had ROADS or even game trails this
very scene
has played out in brush shelters, shrines, taverns, inns, post stations, and hotel lobbies.
Humans, out upon the Ways, where danger may be, sharing information because we live when we cooperate and share and we all know it out there.
Many years ago I was driving across Wyoming in February with my partner and every truck stop we paused at was a hub of information exchange about the roads. “Avoid this pass,” “visibility isn’t great if you’re driving east for the next fifty miles,” “weather is clearing up to the south.”
I still think about how each of us was only there for a short time, usually less than 30 minutes. But in the small patches of warmth and light between miles of driving wind and snow, we found community by the hand dryers in the bathroom, the rows of snacks and corny t-shirts for sale, and the condensation streaked windows overlooking the gas pumps.
A weather beaten, middle aged woman made sure that I had the correct tires for the route I was taking and I let her know what to expect for her next few hours on roads I’d already traversed. I never learned her name, but I will always remember the time she took to make sure a young twenty something would make it safely to their destination amidst the wailing storm.

the king has abruptly fired 60% of his wizard staff, so he’s about to be abruptly surprised at who floated 100% of his formerly floating sky castle
I heard they're planning to maintain their levitation rites with autonomous constructs from now on, saying wizards are going to be totally obsolete within the season... so, ah, I'd invest in falling island insurance.
Preserving not-prev-but-someone-elses funny tags in this chain as well because I love both these additions actually,
it's always "did you really need to burn down your workplace to prove a point" and never "how was the revenge arson? did you have fun doing revenge arson? were the flames pretty?"
did apollo's dodgeball hurt when it smacked you in the face or what
The shape of love
This is on paper btw
i was tidepooling today and overheard someone say 'chatgpt it so we can figure out what it is' about some sort of creature. loser behavior. you're not in it for the love of the game. i have to do everything around here. let me see the creature. i'll tell you the real answer about what it is and i won't kill the environment. AND i'm literally nice.
it's funny because 5 minutes before that i was IDing something by using the search string "SEA SLUG GREEN STRIPED SMALL SEATTLE" which took me to a very badly designed, hauntingly non mobile optimized website that immediately gave me way more information about my creature than i needed or thought was possible. get good. bitch
hold my hand. come with me to emeralddiving.com's salish sea species index.
yesssss
