   You have been married to Steve Harrington for a year or two now. The topic of starting a family just never came up.  But now, you’re seated on the toilet seat holding a positive pregnancy test. You couldn’t stop shaking, your mind was racing to a hundred different ways to tell Steve about this surprise, and a hundred different ways he would react. All you wanted to do was curl up in bed and cry yourself to sleep. Sure, Steve mentioned having kids someday, but he never said when. He just got his teaching job, he’s at his peak, and you’re afraid to crash and tear down what he built for himself. 

   For the first time, he has something he can finally call his, and you feel like you’re ruining it. 

   Your legs took you to the kitchen, and instinctively, your hands reached up to grab the bottle of wine. Thankfully, you were able to come to your senses before you did anything that you might regret.  Instead of sulking, you drove yourself to the walk-in clinic far away from everyone you know. The last thing you wanted was strangers to find out before Steve did. 

“Mrs. Harrington, Dr. Lee is ready for you.” a sweet kind nurse guided you to the far end room and helped you get comfortable on the table for the doctor. 

   All you could think of was the bright lights blinding you and the cold gel getting spread across your flat belly. You still couldn’t accept that in a few more months, your belly would get huge for your baby. It didn’t feel right. You didn't feel right. 

“So as you can see, the baby is about 2 weeks old.” Dr. Lee moved around the Ultrasonic transducer around your belly to help you see your baby better. 

   You weren’t expecting to get emotional for a child you’re not even sure you want. All you wish for right now, is to hold your baby tightly in your arms so that no one can harm your precious little baby. 

   The doctor was explaining more stuff to you, but you weren’t paying attention. All you could think about is how your baby looked like a jelly bean. How could something so tiny be so precious. 

“I’m keeping it.” you blurted out. Dr. Lee looked at you confused, “I’m sorry, did I sound like I was implying to an abortion? I didn’t mean to, I’m really sorry.” 

   Realizing you spoke out of nowhere after crying, definitely gave the wrong signal. “Oh, no! I’m sorry, I didn’t-” the embarrassment made you cringe. Fortunately, Dr. Lee seemed to silently understand what you meant and gave you a nod, ending the embarrassing situation. 

   Your doctor gave you seven pictures of your ultrasound before he sent you to your merry way. 

   Everything felt real to you now. Earlier when you woke up you were just you, a wife and a daughter. But now… you're a mother. The scary feeling washed over you once more. The fear of having to be responsible over a child was greater than the love you could possibly give. You knew you would make a good mother, you just didn’t know how to. As a child, your parents never gave you the love and care you’ve always wanted and if you hadn’t met Steve, you wouldn't have known the warmth it can give you. 

   Despite Steve’s dad being an ass to your husband all his life, Steve was still able to receive love from his dearest mom. Thanks to her, Steve was able to grow up as a wonderful boy who shows devotion and affection to those he’s close to.  You owe it all to her. 

   When you got home, Steve had already got back from his teaching job. As soon as he saw you, sheepishly wrapped his arms around you and took a deep breath. “I’ve missed you~ where have you been?” he smelled like he just came from the shower, his hair was still a little wet and you could faintly get a whiff of your own shampoo. 

“I just went out to the doctors… got something checked out for me.” he looked panicked, “did something happen? Are you alright?” no matter how tired he is, he always seems to have enough energy for you. 

   The ultrasound pictures in your purse feels like a brutal reminder of yours and Steve's future. You let yourself cling onto him while you cry. Your poor husband has no clue what to do next, you’ve never cried like this before, so the fact that you are, worries him. 

   Steve stroked your back while you heaved. All he wanted to do at that moment was to help you feel better, he was confident enough that whatever it may be, he can fix it in no time. “I’m here… I’m here.” Steve guided you towards the sofa without letting go of the hug. 

“We’re not okay, Steve!” you yelled out as if he’ll understand what you meant. 

   He took a deep breath, “We are. So please tell me what's wrong.” he stood firm. 

   You slowly grabbed your purse to look for the pictures, and when your fingers found them, you hesitated to pull them out to show Steve. “Tell me…” his eyes looked at your hand digging in your purse. 

“I can’t…” you whimpered. The tears and snot made it hard to utter a word. 

“I’m ready when you are.” he kissed your temple and stood up to grab you a glass of water. 

   When he was finally out of sight, you breathed a sigh of relief. There was no way in hell you could show this to him, not right now. 

   Another week has gone by. You completely forgot about your pregnancy, or at least you tried to forget.  Steve insisted on taking time off from work to take you to the beach after what happened a few nights ago. “You didn’t have to.” 

“Nonsense, I want to spoil you rotten!” Steve looked handsome as ever. 

“You just want something from me, and I bet it has something to do with Dustin.” his face looked offended, which brought you joy. 

“Okay, yes, but NO!”  The both of you laughed. 

   Steve was stuck packing his stuff because he did it so last minute. While you laid down on your shared bed, enjoying the sun coming from the open window. “Where’s your car keys? I left my duffle bag in there!” he yelled out from the living room. 

“Oh, in my purse!” 

   You finally realize you made a huge mistake when suddenly, Steve went quiet. You sat up quickly, but the damage was done, he saw the pictures. 

   Steve slowly walked into the bedroom you two share with wide eyes. He was holding the ultrasound pictures on his left hand, while he was holding the positive pregnancy test on the left. “Tell me, what are these…” he choked on his words. 

“Steve, I can explain…” you tried to hold his wrist but he pulled away. “For how long have you known?” 

“A week…” 

   There were no tears in his eyes, which was worse. You didn’t know whether he was upset or happy but just in disbelief. “So…” he's piecing the puzzle together. You just nodded and backed away. 

“Are you mad?” he looked up at you. “Me? Mad? Baby…" Steve stepped closer to you. 

   Your hands instinctively held your belly defensively. “Why didn't you tell me?” 

“I was scared, Steve…” the tears started trickling down your face again. “You finally have everything in place… I don’t want to ruin it.” 

“Ruin it? You can never ruin it…” he looked at the ultrasound pictures and held it up. “And this– this can never ruin anything…I’ve always wanted this with you.”  Steve started to sob. He couldn’t imagine what you must’ve been through, and he felt guilty for letting you suffer in silence for so long.  He should've been there to reassure you that everything is going to be alright, he’s your husband after all, that is his duty. 

“I’m here now…” he placed what he was holding on the bed and held you tightly in his arms. “I’ll never let you go through something that heavy alone ever again.” both your perfectly styled outfit started to wrinkle, but neither of you cared. The two of you are too elated to care. 

   Steve dropped to his knees and kissed your belly, “Hi, sweetheart, it’s your daddy talking.” he whispered, “I can’t wait to finally meet you out here… you uncle Dustin, Mike, Lucas, and Will are all gonna wanna cuddle you.” He found it amusing that he finally has his own kid to talk to. “Oh… but I bet your aunties would be happier to see you~” the smiles couldn’t be wiped off your faces. For the first time, you finally felt ready for something completely new. As long as you both have each other, the sky is your limit.

You have been a lovesick fool since you’ve met Eddie Munson in one of your brothers game nights.  The look he had in his eyes whenever they locked into yours makes you want to relive that every moment over and over again.  Oh and his hair… his curly long hair, and how he hides behind them whenever he gets shy~ it makes your knees feel weak. 

“Dinner is ready, Love!” your mom yelled out from outside your door. 

“Yes mom!” 

   As soon as you left your room to go eat, there he was, sitting beside your brother, waiting for you to come join them. Your heart starts beating so much you’re convinced they could hear it. Luckily, that doesn’t seem to be the case. 

“So Eddie, dear… how have you been?” 

   He cleared his throat before answering. “I’m doing good ma’am! Just have been playing with Dustin whenever we can…” 

“Oh how lovely!” 

   You all continued to eat in silence after that. Which made it harder to look at him, because if he catches you, that would certainly raise suspicion. After dinner, the two boys went back to watching a movie that was too nerdy for you to understand, so, like any other person in that situation, you decided to retreat to your room for the night, then maybe your heart would stop pounding. 

   Eddie noticed you leaving quickly, “hey! Want to watch this movie with us?” , but it was too late and you had already slammed your bedroom door shut. “I don’t think your sister likes me very much…” he complained to Dustin. 

“I mean… our campaigns disturb her peaceful driverless day, so maybe that’s why.” Dustin said it so nonchalantly that Eddie started feeling bad.  Is he really disturbing you? Jeez he hoped not. 

   When Eddie still hadn't said anything for a hot minute, Dustin started to get worried, “are you alright?”  this seems to snap Eddie out of his trance, “Oh- yeah- yeah!” he nodded. 

   But Dustin wasn't convinced. He looked into the direction where Eddie seemed to be staring at, and then realized that his friend was staring at your bedroom door. “You like my sister?” your younger brother can’t seem to wrap his mind around the fact. It has to be a joke right? He thought. Sure he loves his friend, Eddie, but him dating you would clash. Eddie might give up his time with Dustin just to hang out with you, and that scares him. 

“Never happening, buddy.” Dustin crossed his arms and tried his best to look as intimidating as possible. 

   Eddie panicked, he’s not even sure if he likes you. He just knows that he feels a certain pull towards you whenever you’re around, and that he feels his blood boil when another male talks to you, but that’s just it. He always just chucks it up as him feeling protective over you as a FRIEND. Nothing more, nothing less. 

“No dude! She’s like a friend to me. Okay? She just… she just didn’t talk much…” it almost sounded like he was trying to convince himself more than Dustin. Realizing that he started to sound soft, he tried to salvage it. “Ahh! She has her blood week!”  He prayed and hoped that Dustin would buy his failed attempts to convince him that nothing was going on. 

“Okay…” Dustin shrugged.  

   ‘Whew, that was a close one’ Eddie thought. 

   Back in your room, your heart can’t seem to stop beating. Maybe it's because he’s still out there, or maybe you’re just genuinely ill.  To pass time, you reorganized your drawers and changed your bedsheets, anything to distract yourself from who was outside, you would do.  Which is why when your body fell onto your mattress, you instantly fell asleep. 

   The next morning was better, your heart stopped with the rapid beating, and Eddie was gone. You are now able to move freely. However, whenever. 

   Still, you can’t help but feel devastated that the man you like has left.   Your mom left for work, which means, you’re tasked to look after your brother and to drive him to Eddie's place. “Is it alright if the campaign happens here?” 

   Your ears perked up, “What?! No! I don’t want sweaty boys sitting on our lovely couch!” 

“Okay, so you’re just calling your sweet little baby brother and his adorable friends sweaty?” 

“Exactly.” You shook your head no. “Not happening buddy.” 

   As much as you feel bad for your baby brother, you still stand for what you said. It is true, they can get smelly. For some reason, all men do. To you, they smell like rotten eggs that were left out in the sun, while a pot of sour sewer water gets sprayed on it every hour for the entire summer. You made up your mind, you are not going to sit through one of those again. 

   After Dustin finished his breakfast and his tantrum, he went to the telephone in the kitchen to call Eddie, probably. You stayed behind at the dining table to clean up the bowls and cups that were used.  

“Can you just drop me off at Mike’s?” Dustin tried to sound polite, because he knows that if he does misbehave, you will force him to take the bike instead, and Dustin isn’t really planning to do that. 

“Fine…” You gave in. you find it really hard to stay mad at your little baby brother when he tries to get on your good side. 

   Dustin immediately jumped up and down with joy, thanking you profusely before running off to his room to get ready. 

   An hour has passed, and you were ready to head out and drop your brother off at the Wheelers’.  “Get in the car in 30 seconds or you take your bike!” 

   This seemed to do the trick, because Dustin came running to the front door yelling at you to chill out and to wait for him. 

“You got everything you need?” 

“Yes, yes!” he impatiently said. 

   The drive was enjoyable. For once, Dustin stayed silent the entire drive and let you listen to the radio in peace. “What time should I pick you up?” you took a quick glance at Dustin. 

“Oh- maybe before dinner, yes!” no matter how old he gets, your brother's slight lisp remains adorable to you.    You silently awed and went back to listening to your radio. 

   As soon as you dropped Dustin off, you reminded him that you’ll be picking him up around 5:30 pm and to call the house whenever he needs you.  Despite your brother being in a rush, he still managed to tell you that he loves you and waved goodbye. 

   Now that you’re alone, you decided to stop by at Family video to visit your friends and to rent out a new movie. 

“Welcome to- Henderson!” Steve yelled out. You have been good friends with Steve since middle school. So close in fact, that most of the teachers you both had would always pair you two to each other when there are group projects. “My brother from another mother!”  you rushed in to give him a long hug. 

“I’ve missed you!” 

“I did too!” you both jumped around in circles without letting go of the hug. 

“You two act as if you don’t see each other almost daily!” Robin said in disgust.

“You’re just a hater-” 

“You just don’t have friends!” Steve teased back. 

   The dynamic between you three had always been like this, and you wouldn’t want it any other way.  Robin soon joined in and bombarded you with so much ‘I missed you’ you started to get over the phrase. 

   Unfortunately, good things don’t last, because they still have to get back to their job and tend to the customers. “I just want to borrow any rom com tapes you guys have.”  you leaned back to the register and started picking your nails. 

“Tell Dustin to return all the Star Wars!” Steve Yelled out from one of the aisles. 

“Will do!” 

   Robin handed you a vhs, “You might like this. Because I did. And we’re practically sisters, right? So give it a shot.”  you thanked Robin and bid them both farewell.   When you got back to your car to drive, for some reason, it wouldn’t turn on. ‘Right now?! Really?’ you yelled out. 

   Defeated, you went back inside the Family video and told Steve what had happened. He was a little hesitant to check it out at first, but after some convincing from Robin that she’ll cover for him, he finally caved and went out to your car. 

   Steve gave you a sigh after he checked your car. “You need to replace your fuel pump… and you'll have to call a tow truck”.   Your face betrayed you, Steve could clearly tell you were worried about something. “Hey… are you alright?” 

“I need to pick up Dustin at 5:30 and get dinner ready-” you pushed your hair back and crouched down on the ground. 

“I’ll just drive you around.” 

“What? No Steve you have a job-” you started yelling. 

“It’s fine… plus, I get to go to see Nancy again if I go…” 

   You rolled your eyes and gave him a playful nudge. “How’s your Eddie situation?” 

“Oh no…” you sighed with a smile plastered across your face. “He was at our place last night~” 

“Did you make your move yet?” you wanted to laugh at his face. Really? He thinks you’re brave enough to do that? “As if!” 

   The two of you talked even while Steve continued on with his work. From time to time, Robin would join in, but then she would see girls that she likes and then she would abandon the two of you. In exchange, Robin promised to cover Steve’s shift just so he could drive you around town. 

“Thank you so much, Steve!” 

“Oh, it’s nothing… I’m just trying to be a gentleman~” 

   Being overly nice definitely didn’t suit your friend, but you can’t say that to his face after he’d been a jerk during his early high school years. “Sure, Steve…” 

   The first stop was your place, so you could make dinner for the family. Then next is the Wheeler residence. “I’ll be quick I promise!” you yelled out while talking off your seatbelt. “I’ll go in with you!” 

   Even though you protested, Steve still insisted on going inside with you just so he could catch a glimpse of Nancy one more time. 

   Low and behold, when you both rang the doorbell, Nancy was the one who answered the door. It was taking all your strength to keep yourself from laughing at Steve’s reaction. He looks like a deer caught in headlights. He stumbled over his words just to say a simple ‘Hello’ to this girl in front of him. 

   Of course, as a nice and understanding friend, you broke the awkward silence for Steve, “are the boys done with their game?” You asked Nancy. 

“Oh, I think so- come on in.” She offered. The boy beside you was mindlessly staring at Nancy, that he didn’t even hesitate to enter the house just because she offered to. 

“Make yourself at home.” Nancy said before leaving you two to go get Dustin. 

“She still hasn’t changed one bit…” Steve let himself fall on the couch. His eyes locked at where Nancy went. “You have to get over her Steve, she has Jonathan now.” 

   Steve looked at you as if you had offended him. “I know…” 

   You saw Nancy come out from the basement with footsteps following behind. Your eyes quickly landed on Eddie. He’s wearing his usual jacket but underneath it was something too plain. You never really imagined him wearing anything else other than his Hellfire outfit, but here you are, blessed at this wonderful sight in front of you. 

   When Eddie saw you, you were already preoccupied. Steve sat way too close for Eddie's liking. His arm was draped across your shoulder, and his posture looked relaxed. Eddie felt punched in the gut, he always knew that you were too good for him, so he never had his hopes up, but seeing you this close to Steve, something stirred inside of him.  

“Would you guys like to have dinner here?” Nancy offered. 

“Oh- I already made-”

“Yes we would love to!” Steve cut you off. You glared at Steve and hissed, “I made food back home!”  

   He only grinned and followed Nancy to the dining table. As much as you wanted to leave, Steve is the one driving, so unfortunately, you have no choice but to do what he wants right now. 

   Dustin and Mike started ranting about how the game today was unfair and that Eddie should redo today's game. “No, sir, no- you must learn from your mistakes today and get better tomorrow!” Eddie said in a weirdly prophetic way. 

   The rest of the players groaned and kept their heads low. 

   The boy beside you, Steve, started eating like a madman. He devoured everything in sight and would occasionally encourage you to get the same dish. “This mashed potato is amazing, Nancy!"   she nodded and thanked Steve for enjoying the meal. 

“Henderson! Try this!” he shoved a bowl at you and started adding the mashed potato onto your plate. Eddie was watching you closely. He was trying to see how you react to Steve, how you look at him, how you speak to him, how you lean in to him. Eddie observed silently. 

“Eddie, come on, remake!” Dustin whined about their defeat earlier. 

“No.” Eddie stood his ground. 

   Mike was about to complain but Nancy glared at him before he could even utter a word, making him shut his mouth and continued chewing his food with a bad temper. “Henderson, do you have any plans for tomorrow?” Eddie looked directly at you. 

   Before you could say something, Steve opened his mouth and said, “Oh- she’ll be helping me with something this week so…” he was fighting the urge to smirk. You looked dumbfounded. First of all, you never made plans with Steve this week, or any other week, so what is he getting at? 

   Before you could defend yourself and tell Eddie that you’re actually free this week, Steve kicked your leg under the table. ‘Ouch!’ you hissed. Your best friend continued with his fake innocent smile and through gritted teeth, whispered, “Go with it.” So left with no choice, you did. 

   Eddie nodded, “Oh, I was planning on showing you this new record store near my place, but maybe some other time then.” 

“Dude! Stop hitting on my-” 

“HENDERSON!” Eddie interrupted your brother. Dustin didn’t find this amusing at all. As a guy, he could tell that his friend has a crush on his sister, which he finds disturbing. 

   The entire table went quiet after that interaction, well, not entirely… because Steve continued to munch the food that Nancy prepared. But the rest, maybe it got too awkward, or maybe there was nothing else left to say. 

   Eddie continued to look at you from time to time, but he never felt as if you were bothered by his presence. You never looked awkward, nor have you acknowledged him after any conversations between the two of you. Little does he know, when you can, you would steal glances at his pretty face and replay the moment in your head till you could steal another glance. 

   After the meal, you helped Nancy clean the table and wash the dishes while the boys went to the living room to watch whatever they felt like watching. Well, except for Eddie. He stayed behind and he would help the two of you to bring the dishes at the sink. “Thank you so much for the help, Eddie~” you cooed.  

   He blushed, “Yeah, no problem.”  

   While he was handing you the plates, your skin made contact with his. The rings he wears felt cold to the touch, and his fingers felt delicate, almost like a finger of someone who has never done hard labor in their life.

   You quickly pulled away. Because if you didn’t you’re afraid that the blush on your cheek might be too noticeable. Eddie wasn’t safe either. His body suddenly went still and his mind went blank. Despite knowing each other for almost or more than a year, there was never a time that the two of you had any reason to feel and touch the other person's skin. 

“HENDERSON! HURRY I NEED TO GET HOME!” Steve yelled from the living room, completely ruining the moment. 

   You wanted to ignore him, but then Dustin came running into the kitchen to tell you what Steve said. “Tell him that I’m not going till I finish these dishes.” Your brother, tired, dragged his feet back into the living room to tell Steve what you said.

“I can just take you and Dustin home, Sweetheart.”

   You looked at Eddie with wide eyes.  Realizing that he said that out loud made him want to crawl under the Earth's crust and never leave that place ever again. “Oh- umm, you know… I have a car??” he was just rumbling at this point, unsure if he should own up to it or try to make excuses. 

“Yeah… sure, right…” your heart feels like it's about to explode from your chest any moment now. ‘Did– did he just call you Sweetheart?’ you thought. 

“Is that a yes?” He sounded hopeful. You just shrugged for the time being and glanced at the living room, Steve looked tired, his eyes barely open. You felt bad for asking him to wait for you, but at the same time, if he didn’t agree to eat here, all of you would’ve been home by now. 

   The boy in front of you misunderstood the look you gave Steve. He figured that you didn’t want to ride with anyone else because you were waiting to ride with Harrington. “Or… not.” he mumbled. 

   You could faintly hear your brother complaining to Steve that he was already tired and ready to go home.   You could tell that Steve hesitated for a moment before looking right at you and gestured that he was about to head out because Dustin was getting sleepy. You nodded. 

“Well, I don’t have a ride anymore, so sure~” you pointed at Steve and Dustin heading out. 

   Deep down, Eddie was celebrating. Finally, he’ll be alone with you, then maybe, he'll have the chance to see if you like him as more than just a friend. 

   He waited for you to finish what you were doing with Nancy patiently. “What’s going on between the two of you?” Wheeler broke the silence. 

“Oh, nothing, we’re just friends.”

   Nancy smirked, “sure…”   In spite of your best efforts, you still couldn’t help yourself but the butterflies in your stomach. 

   By the time you and Nancy finished cleaning up, the rest of the boys already left, leaving Eddie to entertain himself in the living room. “Thank you for helping me…you really shouldn't have…” Nancy got all shy. 

“Don’t mind it, it’s the least I could do~”  

   Nancy glanced at the bored Eddie, “He’s waiting for you~” she bumped her shoulder with yours playfully, a grin forming on her lips. “Oh come on… we’re not like that…” you acted coy. 

“If you say so~” she shrugged. “Eddie! Henderson is all yours!” Nancy yelled out before scurrying away to her room, leaving you with Munson. 

“Are you ready to head home?” He stood up. You were now just noticing how tall he is compared to you. “Yeah” you muttered before following him outside to his van. 

   Eddie opened the door to the passenger seat and held your hand to help you get up better, “Before you m’lady~” 

“Eddie! That's so cheesy!” You said in a playful tone. 

“Anything for you.” 

   Neither have you been bold enough to make a move on each other, but tonight, the moods have shifted. With only the moon lighting up the surrounding, everything felt more romantic than they actually were. 

   The windows were rolled down, letting the air mess up yours and Eddie's hair. From time to time, you would steal glances at each other, hoping that your eyes would meet for even just a second. Eddie was nervous, the air smelled like your floral shampoo that he would only briefly get when you walked past him in the halls of Hawkins High.  

   Like him, your nose was also engulfed with the smell of cigs on his clothes. You usually hated the smell because it reminded you of all the toxic guys you had dated before. But for some reason, the scent on Eddie brought you comfort. 

“How’s the campaign today?” 

   He did a double look at you, “oh, it was stressful… the kids didn’t want to lose.” 

“Just tell me when Dustin is acting up, I'll straighten him up.” you joked. 

“Sure…” Eddie then suddenly remembered how you and Steve seemed to be close. He let his mind wonder if you like Harrington, or if you would scold Dustin with Steve. He only felt weird with it, almost like his heart was falling to his stomach. 

“You and Steve hm?” He finally got the courage to ask. 

“Me and Steve?” you asked, confused. 

“Yeah- you two seem to like each other.” He leaned his elbow outside the car window. 

   You bursted out laughing, did he think that you like Steve? “Ummm, no, no, I think you misunderstood my relationship with that doofus.” It was hard trying to hold in your laugh. 

“Did I?” he chuckled. ‘Thank jeez’ he thought. 

“Yes.” you tried to calm yourself. “He’s just Steve, the same boy who I’ve been friends with since Middle School.” 

   Now that you mention it, Eddie could vividly remember you hanging out with Steve and his friends back when you were still in high school with him. He feels extremely foolish. “Why’d you ask?” you were now fully facing him, interested in what he’s about to say. 

   Should he lie and hide his feelings? Or should he take this moment and swoop you in? He chose the latter. “Why don't you take a wild guess?” 

“Come on, I’m not good at guessing~” he smirked. Before he did anything, he safely parked in front of your house and took off his seatbelt, he leaned in closer to you in a rush, almost like if he doesn’t do this right now he would regret not grabbing the opportunity. 

   Your lips collide. His soft and delicate lips were gentle despite how hard he crashed his to yours. Eddie was waiting for you to push him away, to slap and tell him to leave you alone, but you didn’t. As a matter of fact, you deepened the kiss by wrapping both your arms around his neck as you tried to pull him even closer to you.  

   You could feel the smile forming on his lips and his hot breath tickling your skin before you broke the kiss. “Well… I have a pretty good guess~” you snorted. 

“Oh you do?” He played along. 

“I do~” 

“So what do you say? Tomorrow, just us, picnic at my favorite spot?” He laid his head down on his steering wheel. 

“It's a date~” you grinned, trying to act as if you hadn’t been wishing for this to happen every night for the past year. 

“Yes, darling~” he winked.

   The priest looked at you.  

“I, - , take you, to be my lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part.” 

   The ring bearers slowly walked towards the altar. 

“I give you this ring as a symbol of my love. I promise to give to you my love and friendship. I promise to confide in you and comfort you, To trust and support you. I promise to be there when you need me most, always and forever.”

   Steve slowly slipped the ring on your ring finger. 

“I will give you this ring on our wedding day. As a token and pledge of my love and vows and as a symbol of all we have promised and all we shall share.” 

  It was your turn to slip the ring on Steve’s ring finger. 

“I now pronounce you two as lawfully wedded partners, you may now kiss!” Steve pulled you in closer to him as he reached for your hand that is holding the bouquet of flowers just to cover the kiss from everyone. 

   All your friends and families who attended cheered you and Steve on as he kissed you. 

“FINALLY!” Dustin, Mike, Lucas, and Will screamed out.  Since finding out from Robin that she had set the two of you up. The kids had been plotting and waiting for Steve to finally ask you out. Okay, to be fair, everyone, not just the kids, wanted you two to end up together. 

   As soon as you and Steve pulled away from the kiss, both your parents came to give you two their congratulations. You could tell how much this means to Steve, his dad had never openly shown his son any kind of support since childhood, and you’re relieved to see that it has changed. 

   After the congratulations from your parents, it was Robin, Nancy, and Jonathan’s turn to give theirs. 

“Man, that took a while.” Nancy teased. 

“Yeah, you two have been dating for so long! Insane! Now you both have jobs, and a cute little house, and a cat, oh! And a dog, and wow… It was a long wait for that ring, am I right?”  Robin couldn’t help but rumble. 

   The five of you talked some more, mainly about the future and what it may hold. Robin was betting that you and Steve wouldn’t last 3 months without getting pregnant. She even said that she was being generous with just 3 months. 

   But of course, the conversation had to be resumed for another time because there was still a reception that was waiting for the two of you. 

   You took note of the smell of the freshly picked flowers that you were holding. “When we get home, we’re planting more plants.” Steve looked at you and nodded. You really liked how they looked while you held them, so now, you’d like to see them in your garden every morning to remember this day. 

   The drive to the reception was chaotic, and being in a school bus definitely didn’t help. You were regretting even inviting the kids of those relatives you don’t even know. They were throwing so much tantrum that you were sure that half of the people you invited skipped the reception, and just went straight home. 

“Why did we even choose this way to go to that damn after party….” you whispered to Steve. 

“We met on the old school bus, remember?” he was definitely enjoying seeing you irritated. After all, he was the one who opposed the idea in the first place, you just begged until he gave in. All you could do right now is huff and suffer in silence. 

   The reception was really extravagant. Steve’s parents offered to pay for it after learning that he’s finally getting married. You and Steve didn’t want to accept the offer at first because Steve didn’t want to feel indebted to his father, but after a while, he finally gave in. Despite wanting to pry and ask him why he accepted the offer, you couldn’t, it felt wrong to do so. 

   All the tables were decorated with fine linens, even yours and Steve's initials were embroidered. Under the lights, the fine china Steve's mom requested were sparkling. It wasn’t anything you’ve ever  seen before. There were written notes  on each table that said; ‘light the candle before eating’ , “what’s that for?” Steve asked, “Oh, It’s to recreate the date we had when I asked you to marry me.” 

   You could see the tears forming on Steve’s eyes, desperately trying not to fall. You didn’t expect him to get emotional, but here you are, proven wrong. So you reached your hand to cup his face and to wipe his tears away with your fingers. 

“Don’t cry, Steve… I just might cry too…” you said in between sniffles. You tilted your head up in hopes that the tears that were forming won’t fall and ruin your makeup. Steve chuckled at your reaction, “I won’t, I promise.” it almost sounded like he was reminding himself rather than telling you he won’t. 

   It didn’t take long before the guests started arriving and finally sitting on their respective seats. You and Steve were seated on the stage area of the venue. It had the perfect view of the rest of the hall, and you could clearly see everyone. 

   You sighed, “is everything alright?” Steve held your hand. “Well… yeah- you told me you had a speech, and- and I don’t, wouldn’t it seem weird?” 

“No, of course not, why would it be?” 

“Because… I didn’t prepare one…” 

   Steve flashed you one of his smiles that would calm you down. “I’ll just tell the guests that it’s a surprise speech.” he gently squeezed your hand. 

   The event started, some guests sang, some congratulated the both of you, some danced, and there was even a stand up comedy that Robin hosted. 

“I’d like to congratulate our newlyweds, our two lovebirds… speaking of birds…  I’m just so glad Steve wasn’t a bird, we all know he wouldn’t be married right now if he were.”  Steve's parents laughed a little too much at the joke, which definitely hurt his ego a bit. 

   After a few more jokes, the guests seemed to be a bit more relaxed than they did at the ceremony.   The parents were also able to keep their kids under control during Robin's set. You made a mental reminder to thank all the parents for telling their kids to behave after the event. 

   While you were in deep thought, Steve stood up and clink the glass with a bread knife.  “May I have your attention? Everyone!” The guests looked at Steve. 

   He was surely nervous. You could tell by the way he fidgets with the end of his suit, and by the way he was playing with the cord of the mic.

“Okay…” he took a deep breath, “So, I just got married to this beautiful person right here…” he looked at you, “and… I… I am the luckiest man alive…” he snorted, “I mean, look at my partner! Have you ever met someone as beautiful? Probably not- no offense dad… Anywho, let me tell you all the day I met the love of my life…”   the memories were still as clear as day to you and Steve. 

   Robin had promised to set you up to a guy she had a class with. After a few failed attempts of Robin playing cupid, you were not exactly thrilled. “This is the last one I’m going to.”   you set your foot down. 

“I promise! He’s really charming! Plus he has a job, so he can definitely pay for whatever you want!” 

“I’m not looking for a sugar daddy, Robin…” 

“Just drop by scoops ahoy later. He’s a year above us, so he’s already out of highschool. I promise! He’s really sweet! Just give him a chance!”

   And so you did. After your shift at the bakery, you made your way to the mall to visit Robin and this guy she so desperately is trying to set you up with.  As soon as you got there, a guy who’s oddly familiar was standing at the cashier, waiting for customers to arrive. 

“Welcome to scoops ahoy!” He greeted you enthusiastically. 

“Hey- I’m just here for Robin… she has this guy she’s trying to set me up with.” As soon as those words fell from your lips, you realized who he was, and who Robin meant.  Steve chuckled, “Ah, it must be you~ Hi, I’m Steve, Steve Harrington.” he reached out his hand for a handshake, “Robin said we may have had a class together, but… I don’t remember you.” 

“Neither do I.”  

   An awkward silence engulfed the air surrounding you two for a minute before Stevespoke up again, “Tomorrow night, you and me, the drive in?” 

“That’s a date then~”  

“I knew at that moment that I was gonna marry this person…” Steve’s look was intense. 

   Your heart felt like it was going to explode. The love you and Steve share doesn’t compare to anything you’ve felt before, and for a moment, it almost felt like you might just go insane. 

   Steve, now feeling comfortable enough to move more freely to express his emotions did so, “You know… I remember the moment we had our… I think it was our fifth date- the date I finally had the courage to ask if my sweet to be mine~” 

   You and Steve had been going out for about a month and a half now. Sure you’re still not official with him yet, but he has proven that he feels something for you, and to you, that was enough. 

   Earlier that day, Steve had called you to tell you that his parents were out of town, and that he would like for you to stop by his place for dinner at 6. Of course you agreed. 

   The drive to Steve’s place was peaceful, and for once, it actually felt like you were coming home. The home being a person, Steve. 

   Before you could knock on the front door, Steve already opened it. He said that he heard your car pull up, and you honestly thought it was cute. Only Steve knows that it’s because he had been waiting by the window since calling you. He knew that today was the day you two made it official. Like you, Steve also felt home when the two of you were together. It was a foreign feeling, he had never felt it once with Nancy considering the fact that he was head over heels for her. You are different. 

   The night went according to Steve’s plan. You both ordered some pizza through delivery and watched a movie you two can’t seem to get over despite seeing it about 10 times. “I swear, this never gets old!” you laughed at one of the scenes. 

“It never does, honestly!” Steve was really good at pretending to not be a nervous wreck. Whenever you thought something was up, he would manage to pretend that everything was alright, or you would chuck it up to stress at work. 

“Hey- so…” 

“Yeah?”  you looked up at Steve’s eyes. 

“I think I remember you now.” He gave you a smirk. Something in his eyes tells you that whatever memory he had of you was hilarious, unfortunately. You barely remember half of your highschool life, let alone a memory with Steve in it.   Unlike the 99.9%  of the population in school who probably had a crush on Steve at one point, you fell in that .01% who didn’t care about the popular kids. 

“And I don’t.” you answered rather defensively. 

“We were on a bus…” he trailed along, hoping that you’ll remember. 

“Apple juice??” you looked even more confused, and probably stupid in his eyes. 

“Come on… that was a very good memory!” 

“Sorry, I just don’t remember.” you said smugly. 

   For about 45 minutes, Steve kept dropping hints in hopes that it’ll click for you, while you completely ignore him. Thankfully, the movie was loud enough for Steve’s whines to sound distant enough in your ears. 

   Unfortunately for you, as soon as the movie ends, it all clicked. Steve was the guy who was humming a commercial for apple juice, and you joined in. From that day on, he would hum different commercial songs and you would join in. You didn’t know who was sitting in front of you. You didn’t try to find out. A part of you likes the mystery of who this person could be, the possibilities. During that time, you were heavily into reading romance books that made you stay up till 4 in the morning and sleepy by the first period. 

   Who would've thought that it was Steve ‘king’ Harrington in front of you. 

   One of Steve's so-called friends at that time found out about what you two had been doing, so they did what every high schooler did,  which was to humiliate a random person while they spare their friend. 

   You heard from one of your friends at that time that Steve apparently cut off that friend group for what they did. But it was never the same. He stopped riding the bus, and after a while, so did you. Steve stayed popular, while you faded in the background. 

“You’re that guy!” 

   Steve smiled. He was glad that you remembered him and the inside joke you two had going on. “Finally!” 

“You actually gave me the motivation to come to school you know~” 

“I’m glad I helped out~”  Steve sat close. Too close. You could feel how hot his body was, you could smell his soap and that one perfume he loves so much.  Your eyes flickered from his eyes to his lips. He caught that. “You made that bus ride worthwhile.”  As soon as those words fell from his lips, he sealed the distance between you two. 

   He guided your arm around his neck, while your lips were busy doing whatever it desires.  In between those kisses, Steve would just look at you in awe, glad that you were in his arms. “Be mine…” it was more of a statement than a question. 

“Give me a chance to treat you right… please~” both of your heads pressed together. 

   Your chuckled, “I suppose I can give you a chance~” 

“ I would do anything to see that smile over and over again…” 

   The crowd fell silent, unsure if they were even meant to hear this surprise speech that has now turned into a love confession.  You thought that the vows were enough to make you cry, but now this? This was another level. 

“Steve…” you whispered to yourself. 

   Steve was already looking at you with love in his eyes. He looks at you like you had personally given him oxygen to breathe. You are his world, and he is yours. 

“And like most relationships, we also had rough patches…” 

“Steve, I don’t think I can just stay here! Don’t you see how miserable I am?” 

   Steve was scared of you leaving for college. In a way, he felt like you would abandon him like how Nancy did. You were frustrated, understandably so, after all, you already passed the entrance exam, and paid for the semester, all you had to do was show up. 

“I can’t… I…” he wanted the best for you. Of course he did. But he also can’t deny that he wants to be selfish, just this one time. 

   His eyebrows were furrowed, his eyes teary. “I want you near me- I just-” he said in a whisper.  It frustrates you that you could barely hear anything from him, when all you felt like doing was yell till he understands that you have dreams too. And you’ll do anything to chase those dreams.   

   Steve fell silent. So you left. You got in your car and drove off. 

   It took Harrington 20 minutes before realizing that he doesn’t want to live in a world without you.  And if you were to leave, he definitely doesn't want it to end because of an argument. So he also got in his car, and chased after you. 

   Steve wasn’t sure how long he had been driving, or how fast he was going, he only knew that he had to get to you and apologize, admit that he has his own problems, and that he will do anything just to have you by his side.  He’ll wait. 

   Both yours and Steve's parents started tearing up. Steve’s devotion moved them.  You could tell that your parents just fell even more in love with their son in law. 

“That night… I finally caught up to my beloved.” he chuckled, “and if you all are wondering how I got into the university to profess my love, I didn’t… I saw my world getting gas while eating beef jerky, like a true badass.”  Everyone laughed. 

   Steve's eyes were all puffed up from crying. “And as you all can see right now… we were able to make it work despite all odds.”  and by now you also started crying. 

“If I had the chance to live this life once more… I would gladly do it, just so I can be with you over and over again.” Steve was now looking at you. 

‘I love you’, you mouthed the words to Steve. 

‘I love you too…’

  You and Steve started dating a year after him and Nancy called the relationship off. 

Steve never gave you any reason to suspect him of still having feelings for his ex, instead, he has always been so loving and caring despite struggling with opening his heart to someone new. 

   Steve never really told you why they called the relationship off, he would only give vague answers and then he would quickly change the topic. Of course you never tried to pry. You knew that if Steve was ready, he would tell you at his own pace. 

   That was one of the things Steve liked about you. You never tried to find out why he was like this, why he’s so closed off, and why he’s so scared of losing you. After his relationship with Nancy, he never felt any type of real love from the other girls who piqued his interest. And that was until he met you. To Steve, you were like an angel sent from heaven. At first, he never took you for granted, he used to shower you with your favorite flowers and take you to places he knew you’d like.

   To everyone in Hawkins, you two were the ideal couple, kids looked up to you both, and parents (especially Steve’s parents) were certain that in no time, Steve would give you the ring. 

   At first they were right. 

   Steve of course isn’t perfect. His relationship with Nancy left deep scars he tried to erase. And those same scars are the one that you’re now learning how to love. 

   You and Steve were invited to a graduation party of someone you both know. This would be the first time that the both of you would go to a party together.

   Steve had his arms tightly around you the entire night, not that it bothered you though, you like to make sure that Steve doesn't do anything stupid whenever there is alcohol surrounding him. What bothered you is that his grip would become tighter whenever a guy talks to you, since you know that he’s never the jealous type, he prides himself over that.

“What was that in there?” you are now sitting on the passenger seat of his car ready to go home. 

“What was what?” he took his right hand off the stirring wheel and held yours. 

   You rolled your eyes, “I can feel it whenever your grip tightens you know?” 

“I just- I don’t want you getting lost in that place.” he offered a half hearted smile. 

   You knew there was something he wasn’t telling you, but nonetheless you didn’t question him any further. 

   Steve pulled in the driveway of your house, “Please spend the night with me~” you cooed. 

“I have work tomorrow, remember?” Steve banged his head slightly on his headrest. “You’re an expensive girl to have, babe.”  you pretended to be offended and turned your back on him. 

   Steve chuckled and leaned closer to you, “come on, we can meet at the movies after my shift, what do you say?” 

   You finally looked at him with a big smile plastered across your face, “That’s a date Steve Harrington, no take backs~” 

   Steve stole a quick peck on your lips and nodded, “You got it.” 

   The entire night after that car ride made you feel all giddy, and your cheeks haven't turned into its normal shade since. You find it really hard to fall asleep when your mind is flooded with nothing but Steve. So to pass time, you bore yourself by putting on your hair curlers and figuring out what to wear over and over again, until you settled with some white keds sneakers, shorts, and Steve's old sweater that he left at your place. 

  After getting about 5 hours of sleep in total, you finally were able to pull yourself out of bed and get ready for your date with Steve later on in the day. 

   You were humming along to the song on the radio ‘Out of touch’ while putting on some last touches on your look for the day.

   The mall was packed with kids who had nothing to do for the summer and those who were dragged unwillingly along by their parents. You made your way up to Steve’s work place to surprise him and to hang out with him all day in between his shift. 

   Steve’s back was turned against the counter and he was looking at a white board that someone is holding up. While walking in the store, the girl who was holding the white board slowly peaked her head to the side, she was clearly trying to get a better look of you. 

“Holy-” was all she could say before Steve turned towards whoever she was looking at. 

   As soon as Steve saw you, he jumped over the counter and rushed towards you to get a hug. “I didn’t expect you to come this early!” 

“Well, I wanted to spend the day with you, Steve.” You hugged him tightly to get a smell of his favorite perfume that you gifted him… and maybe because you’re hoping you’d smell like him.

   The girl who was looking at you earlier started ringing the bell, “get a room!” 

   Steve pulled away slightly and looked at her, “Just because you’re single, doesn’t mean we have to suffer!” 

   After some formal introduction, you finally learned that the girl is named Robin, and that she’s been putting up with Steve for way too long to stay sane. “I mean, how do you handle… all that?” 

“All what?” you raised your eyebrow.

“All his… let’s just say, ‘quirks’” you let out a loud chuckle. It was obvious to you that she meant his arrogance and narcissism at times. 

“Well… he does come with a hefty baggage doesn’t he?” you joked around. You were slightly thankful that Steve couldn't hear you two, because you knew that if he could, he would be sulky all day, and that would be a very hard Steve Harrington to please. 

   Robin looked at you with exhausted eyes “you’re a saint if you think that's all he’s carrying.” she jokingly said

   You and Robin could hear a bunch of girls giggling outside, so you took a peak. The girls were taking their time picking out their ice cream flavor while shamelessly looking at Steve with hearts in their eyes, and Steve is just there clueless, it seemed like he’s just glad to be selling ice cream. 

   Since there was no line, the girls just took up Steve’s time despite already having ice creams in their hands. “Steve~ how do you get those kinds of muscles?” one girl asked, “Yeah, you look so manly, Steve~” her friend followed up. 

“Ah umm, thanks, I just try to keep active, ladies.” 

   The girls started swooning and making ‘aww’ sounds when he answered them. 

“You could just swoop in, you know? Steve already did his job anyways, plus, I think it’s extremely disrespectful that they’re even sticking around when he clearly has a necklace of someone's name wrapped around his neck. Plus, they are taking so much time from-” 

“Okay, Okay, Robin.” you cut her off. Robin looked relieved and gave you a smile. 

   You looked at yourself in the mirror just to make sure that you look alright, before going out there to “confront” those girls. 

“Steve! What’s taking you so long?” you clung to his arm while making sure that your necklace with Steve’s name is showing.

    The girls stood there awkwardly looking at Steve, then at you, then at Steve. “My pretty girl! There you are!” Steve wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you closer to him. 

   Without even having to ask them why they’re there, the girls started to walk away. “Finally, they were taking up your time a little too much for my liking.” 

   The day went on without anything like earlier happening, and both Steve and Robin went back to work while you sat in one of the unoccupied couches near the counter. 

“Hey, umm is someone sitting here?” a guy who seemed to be your age asked. 

   You shook your head no, “Oh no you can sit don’t worry.” ,he gave you a smile and sat down. 

“Are you new here?” 

“Oh no, I live here.” you offered a polite answer. 

“I haven’t seen you around.” He took a bite of his ice cream without breaking eye contact with you. 

“Oh, is that so?” 

“Yeah- can I take you out on a date or something?” the guy clearly can’t see that you don’t want to talk to him.

“Uhh- I have a-” before you could finish, Steve stepped in, “Robin is going to watch for a while, come with me at the back.” Steve gave you a wink and then looked at the guy, “she has a boyfriend buddy.” 

   And just like that, Steve wouldn’t leave your side the entire time you were there. Even when you’re hanging out with Robin, he can’t seem to want you out of his sight for even just a second. 

“We can head out in a bit.” Steve whispered into your ear. 

   The time was currently 7:30 pm and Steve had 30 more minutes before he could clock out. Suddenly, the voices of Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, Nancy and Jonathan filled the ice cream store. 

“Dustin?!” Steve stood up quickly, and rushed towards them. 

   They both had wide smiles plastered across their faces as they did their bro hug, “how was camp?” 

“Oh you know.” Dustin played coy. 

“I missed you, Henderson.” 

   Dustin gave him a nod, “I did too, Steve.”

“Sorry to break your little reunion, but we need to hurry up and get those tickets.” Nancy spoke up. 

   The moment she did, you saw with your own two eyes, the look that Steve had plastered across his face. It was a look that you’ve never seen him give you once. 

“Nancy…” 

“Steve…” Nancy gave him an awkward smile. 

“I haven’t seen you in a while…” 

“Neither have I, Steve.” 

   It went on like that for a solid 5 minutes. Steve looking mesmerized, and Nancy looking like she was reminiscing. 

   Robin must’ve felt the tension and tried to distract them by buying ice cream and asking them what flavor they want. This seemed to temporarily pull away Steve and Nancy with whatever they had going on a moment ago. 

“Umm, we should also probably get a head start too. With the movie I mean…” Steve scratched the back of his head. 

“You still have about- 20 minutes on your shift.” you took a look at the clock behind you. 

“Yeah, but you know, Nancy was right, the tickets.” 

   Your heart suddenly dropped to your stomach, “We can go for a different one, Steve.” 

“But I want to see ‘Back to the future’” 

   You knew it was a lie, Steve never cared for those types of movies, he very much preferred romance genres over anything sci-fi. 

   You gave Steve a good long look, hoping that he’ll crack and admit the truth,  but he was stubborn and didn’t. You took a good look at the group, more specifically, Nancy. She had this radiance that she carries effortlessly. Her hair looked like it hadn’t been maintained well but somehow she could pull it off. 

   This made you feel self conscious, you unknowingly started playing with the ends of your long hair while looking at her. 

   Steve clocked out while you weren’t looking, and started following them as soon as they paid for their ice cream. You felt small at the moment, having to rush towards them because your boyfriend couldn’t be bothered to wait for you. 

   You looked at Robin, “I’m so sorry about him leaving like this.” 

“It’s alright, I’ll just give him hell for it tomorrow.” Deep down, you were glad that Robin was so understanding.

   Once you were able to catch up, they were already talking about things that you didn’t understand, things like DND or parties that you didn’t go to. It was safe to say that it felt like the whole world was trying to humble you down, like it was saying that, despite being his girlfriend, you can never be as good as Nancy. 

“Would you like cheese flavored popcorn?” Steve asked you. 

“I never liked cheese flavored popcorn, Steve.” 

“Oh- yeah, right.” and despite saying that you didn’t like cheese, he still chose to order that flavor. 

“Man, we haven’t done anything fun like this in a while!” Dustin rushed to the entrance to the cinema, leaving you all behind. 

“One hell of a kid, am I right?” 

“Yeah…”

“Yeah.” 

   Both Steve and Jonathan answered Nancy's question at the same time. “Okayyy” was all Nancy could say to ease the moment. 

   Nancy looked at you, then she looked at your outfit, “Oh! That’s Steve’s favorite sweater! Oh he looked so adorable in those!” you’re sure she didn’t mean any harm, but that just gutted you in ways you didn’t know were possible. 

   You looked at Steve and he was grinning from ear to ear while glancing at Nancy. You wanted to puke right then and there with how much your boyfriend seems so in love with the girl who hurt him so bad, that he cried for months in your arms, the same girl who Steve had to learn how to unlove. 

“Hurry up!” The rest of the kids ran and followed Dustin inside the cinema. 

“kids…” you joked. 

“They are so hard to keep in order!” Nancy added to your joke. 

   Once you 4 finally settled to your respective seats, you realized that Steve and Nancy were accidentally seated together, so you offered to sit in between them instead, which Nancy was so thankful for. 

“You still got the cheese?” you sounded a little bit annoyed at Steve for going against what you wanted. 

“Ohh~ you got cheese?! My favorite!” Nancy tried her best to whisper yell inside the cinema.

   You again glanced at Steve and saw his little smile, looking proud of himself. It was never about what you wanted, it was what Nancy liked. And what’s worse is that he still remembers, he still remembers what popcorn she likes. How could something so small hurt so much, you thought. 

   You couldn't focus on the movie, your mind was occupied by the thought that Steve might still have feelings for Nancy, and with what’s been happening, it wasn’t unlikely. 

“Steve, I'm cold.” you were rubbing your palms against the skin of your leg to heat it up somehow. 

“Mhmm.” was all Steve muttered, he didn’t even look at you. So you stood up from your chair and left. You were hoping that Steve would rush out to come and get you, maybe see what’s wrong so he could try and make it right, but he didn’t. Before getting out of the cinema, you looked behind you to see if Steve followed, but he didn’t. 

   So now here you are, walking around a closed mall, debating whether or not you should just walk home because there were no more buses this late or wait by Steve’s car. Because you knew that the movie would end sooner than later, you chose the latter. 

   One by one, people started leaving the mall with smiles on their faces, clearly they enjoyed the movie they just watched. One of the last people to leave the mall was the group. You could see Steve laugh with the kids and have a great time right after basically ignoring you since Nancy showed up. 

“Babe!” Steve waved at you once he saw you waiting by his car. 

   You rolled your eyes and motioned for him to hurry up. “Did I do something wrong?” Steve jogged towards you. 

“Really? You’re asking me that?” 

   Steve was really clueless, he didn’t know why you were acting like that. Sure he noticed you suddenly leaving the cinema, but he just thought you didn’t feel well. 

   But he was scared of getting you angry so he just opened the door and let you in the car, while he said his goodbyes to the kids and Nancy and Jonathan. 

   The entire car ride back to your place had been quiet, except of course the slight drizzle, Steve didn’t even bother to turn on the radio to listen to some songs. Steve was just worried about what got you to be acting mad. 

“Please tell me what I did.” Steve pleaded. 

“I don’t want to talk about it.” you shut him down immediately. 

“No, tell me.” he asked again, firmer this time. 

   You just kept ignoring him, “is this about Nancy?” 

“Look, I’m just trying not to make things awkward for us.” 

“At my expense?!” you finally lashed out. 

   Steve didn’t expect this so he flinched, “I felt like a fool out there, Steve!” 

“Do you even know how I like my popcorn?” you could feel the tears streaming down your cheeks, so you turned to face the window instead. 

   He scoffed, “why are we talking about popcorn?”Steve thought it was funny how you’re so focused about that

“It’s not just about that, Steve…” you let out a sigh. 

   Steve didn’t respond, he stayed quiet for a good second, “I didn’t mean to make you feel like that.” 

“You sure didn’t, Steve” you were trying to not make your tears too noticeable, by wiping it off slowly, the last thing you want is for Steve to see you cry. 

   Since you weren’t facing him, you didn’t know what he was doing, or what expression he had on his face. Steve left you alone and didn't comment or talk to you the entire car ride. Today was supposed to be a nice day for the both of you, but instead of a wonderful movie date, it became the worst date of the century. 

   You felt as though the car ride was longer than it actually was because of the silence that took over the entire ride. 

   After what felt like an eternity, you were finally in front of your home. You hurriedly got out of the car and unlocked the house door. You didn’t even notice Steve following behind you.

“Let’s talk.” he finally spoke up. You let out a yelp before realizing it was just Steve. 

“I’m tired, Steve… you should go home.” you tried pushing him away. 

“I won’t leave.” 

   You finally dropped to the ground with how weak your knees had become. “Please, just… not today.” 

“I don’t like seeing you like this!” 

“You sound like you care.” you huffed. All you want to do now is to remove Steve’s sweatshirt that you stupidly wore.  “Cry me a river, Steve” 

“Princess…” Steve looked defeated, his eyebrows were furrowed. 

“I was waiting for you all night- all night for you to stop acting so in love with her.” your tears started pouring again, but this time, you had no way of hiding them from Steve. 

   It looked like Steve had something to say, but he stopped himself before he could. 

   And at that moment, all you could think about is how much potential you two could have. You truly love Steve, and that’s why it hurts so much. Because you truly believed that the nice things you both of you had would last, that nothing can come between you two.  It was those little moments that you two shared, those little glances, those quite secret kisses, that kept you hoping, that maybe, just maybe, he was truly yours. 

   Steve is good at pretending, that you can be sure of. It only took one glance- one glance from his true love, to crumble the love you built brick by brick, to crumble the life that could’ve been. 

“So it’s true, when all is said and done, grief is the price we pay for love.”

   You knew about Maeve. How could you not? Since dating Spencer he had been overly protective over you. He would call you randomly throughout the day even while he’s working a case just so he can make sure that you’re alright. Despite being told about Maeve, no one ever told you why she’s no longer with us. Which leads you to never truly understanding where Spencer comes from whenever he’s worried about you. 

   Unfortunately, it seems like Spencer doesn’t really love you. To you, he only likes the idea of being in a relationship, he only likes making sure that you’re safe, but love? You’ve never felt that, cared for is the most appropriate term. 

   Just like clockwork, Spencer got back to your shared apartment really late at light after days of not seeing him. He looked tired, his eyes looked like he had seen the horrible things the world has to offer. 

   Spencer likes to sit down on the lazy sofa near the bed and wait for you to come and join him while you ask him about his day. It’s his way of letting out the heavy feeling in his heart after every case. 

“How was work?” you would play with his curly hair and trace circles on his nape.

“We caught the unsub, as usual.” he let out a soft chuckle, “it was this two old couple who-” he shook his head no and took a deep breath. 

“Tell me all about it tomorrow, but for now go get some rest.” You could tell by his body language how exhausted he is, and yet he still remained seated on the sofa. 

“Suite yourself, Spence.” 

   You know that waiting for him to go to bed was pointless. He’s a man that can be hard headed when he wants to. 

   The following morning started out great, Spencer asked you about the books you had been reading, and you asked him his. It was a really productive start for the day. You both even went to the public library to borrow some of their books. On your way back home, Spencer had been giving you interesting fun facts that most people would probably find annoying, but to you, it was the most interesting quirk that he has to offer. And when he ran out of things to say, he started ‘reading’ people’s body language. 

“You’re literally profiling unsuspecting strangers.” he would roll his eyes and give you a playful nudge whenever you say this to him. 

   You can’t help yourself and pointed out how the air smelled exactly how it did the day you met Spencer. “I still remember the french toast you were holding.” Spencer looked at you like time had stopped momentarily, “and you were shamelessly staring.” 

“At the toast you were holding.” you closed held your head up high, “not at you smarty- AHH!” you were waiting for your body to hit the ground, but it never did. 

   Spencer fortunately got a hold of you before you were able to fall on the ground, “what happened to being careful?” he unknowingly raised his voice. 

“I’m fine.” 

“Well I caught you- you know what? Let’s just go home.” he quickened his pace a little bit. It was odd seeing him snap when he was just in a good mood. 

   No matter how much you try to catch up to him, he would magically be able to walk ten times faster than his previous pace.

“Spencer what was that little outburst?” you slammed the door behind you as you entered the apartment. 

“It was nothing.” you’ve always hated whenever he tries to act as if he doesn’t know what you’re talking about. 

“I tried to be understanding, Spence, I truly do- but why are you so protective? You act as if I can’t fend for myself- I’m fully capable of looking after myself.” 

“Please drop this.” 

“You can’t do this all the time, Spence. You act as if I'll evaporate into thin air.” 

   This seemed to have struck a nerve. Spencer's eyes were full of disdain, it was something the Spencer you knew wouldn’t do. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.” As much as he tried to answer calmly, it didn't come out the way he wanted it to. 

   You felt the tears pour down from your face. The amount of patience and love you’ve shown him so he could feel secure didn’t pay off, instead, it felt as though keeping you safe mattered more to him than showing you the love you wanted.

   Spencer tried his best to get away from you after his outburst. Thankfully the apartment was big enough to have a library where Spencer can retreat to when he wants peace. 

   Unfortunately for the both of you, you couldn’t stay apart for long. You and Spence knew that eventually you two had to talk about it. But right now, avoiding each other seems better than facing whatever the future has coming. 

   It was already 2 in the morning and Spencer still hasn’t come out of the library yet, so you decided that maybe it’s time to check in on him. Spencer was sitting still on the sofa while reading the book he forbade you to read or touch (the narrative by John Smith). Even with your presence in the room Spencer didn’t move an inch. 

“Are you alright, Spence.” 

   He only took a quick glance at you and went back to reading the book. “Does this have to do with Maeve?” 

   This finally got his attention, “I don’t know what happened, Spence… but please don’t do this.” you slowly took a few steps to get closer to the sofa. 

“You don’t know what you’re talking about, you don’t know how fast things can change..” 

   Hearing his tone turn stern was weird. Sure you’ve heard him sound mad or firm before, but not like this, never been like this scary. So scary in fact, that you could almost feel yourself twitch involuntarily. 

   Spencer obviously noticed this, he’s a profiler after all, this is what he does for a living, this is what the government is paying him for. 

“Spence…” you were almost pleading, “just let me in…” 

   He continued to ignore you. In a way, you’re used to it, whenever things don't go as Spencer hoped, he would ignore you until he thinks everything is alright– which is never, but you knew, or at least you thought this is just how he deals with things. 

   He sat up, “What’s the point?” 

   Who knew? Who knew that in just three words your world could crash. In that moment, you started to rethink whatever you and Spencer had, those moments came to you in movies, from the moment you both first met, to when Spencer asked you for your number, to your first date, to when he asked you to be his partner, to your first kiss, to when you moved in together, to those nights where he promised you the world, to now. 

   All you could do was tilt your head to the side and laugh at yourself and with the situation. You stared at the promise ring he gave you on your 1st anniversary, “does this mean nothing?” you lifted your hands up to show Spencer the ring on your finger. 

   He looked at you with his usual look whenever he doesn’t know what to do or say, that look where he doesn’t even have to shrug for you to know what he meant. 

“I thought you loved me, Spence?”

“I do” 

“That’s not how you love someone, Spence.” 

   He looked at you as if you'd gone mad, “I gave you everything. You can’t say that is not how to love someone!” 

“You’re treating me like a substitute for Maeve!” 

   Spencer was taken aback, “No, no.” he denied.  He slammed his body back to the sofa and closed his eyes. Deep down Spencer knew the truth, he knew that somehow,  he’s trying to protect you the way he wishes he could’ve done with Maeve. And every day, the guilt over her accident eats him alive. 

“It doesn't matter how much I try to understand Spence… you’ll-” forming anything to say became difficult.

 It's not like you wanted any of this to happen. Everything was fine- one moment he was just on your bed talking about the far unknown future, and the next harsh words were being thrown left and right. 

   Steve, your now ex, is sitting across from you from work. You both initially applied for this job at Family video because it means you both get to spend more time together without worrying about each other's schedule that much. But now, you are stuck with him on the floor trying to fix and organize the new arrivals. 

“Lovebirds! I can cut a paper with all this negative tension! It's not good for business.” 

   You lowered down your head while Steve threw an empty box nearby at Robin, “Don’t you have something better to do?” he slouched down his posture then went back to work. 

“We’re about to close up, I’m just waiting for you slow snails to finish with your job-” she took a moment before continuing “how was movie night last night lovebirds?” completely unaware of what happened between you and Steve. “Oh it was- fine, it was fine, Robin- can we actually listen to the radio?”  

   Robin stood up, dragging her feet as a protest. “Ohh look, it's your guy’s song!” she pointed at the radio and pretended to slow dance with her air partner while singing along “You’re so close but still a world away~” 

“Eugh! I wish I could bleach my eyes, Robin.” you pretended that you weren’t badly affected. “It’s not our song anymore, so please stop.” Steve said with a rather harsh tone. 

“What do you mean?” Robin sat down between the two of you and just looked at the both of you looking for answers. “We’re over Robin.” you calmly said, or at least as calm as you can get yourself to. 

   Steve stopped what he was doing and stood up and left the room. You took a glance at him when he stood up, you badly wanted to hold his arm and make him sit beside you again, but you don’t have the right to do that anymore. So all you could only do was watch and let him go. 

   Robin didn’t question it and did his job for him, “are you alright?” she finally spoke, “yes- yes I’m alright Robin.” You tried your best to not make it obvious that you’re about to break down any moment now. “Don’t even dwell on that dingus, he clearly doesn’t know how to keep his ladies.” and then she flipped in the direction Steve went. 

   You two just talked until you both finished what you two were doing, Robin switched the open sign to close, and you got the keys and locks ready. 

“Do you have a ride home?” Robin asked, “Uh yeah, Steve is still responsible for taking me home and picking me up.” You answered. 

   Robin chuckled to herself thinking about how awkward it must be for the both of you to still go to and from work together. “Mr. Brown is still keeping king Steve grounded, I see .” She walked up to her bike and waved you goodbye. 

   You really didn’t want to be inside of his car right now but you are left with no choice because of that stupid bet he made with your dad. “I have my own car so you don't have to pick me up anymore, Steve.” 

   He just took a quick glance at you and then his eyes went back to the road, “I don’t really feel like getting an earful from your dad.” he said blankly, you could almost laugh with what he said, it was in a way… endearing, it shows that he still sees your dads stupid words like law despite being over. 

“I’ll tell him to go easy on you, Harrington.” You had this smirk on your lips, well, it was a smile but you had to bite your lips to stop yourself from looking stupid, so now it just looks like you’re smirking. 

   You heard him chuckle, and it was not the forced kind, he actually chuckled. The rest of the ride home remained silent, you took that opportunity to take a small nap before getting home. 

   About 30 minutes you could hear Steve stop his car and turn off his engine, “Get up, you’re here.” , you slowly opened your eyes and took a look around “thank you for taking me back home, Steve, I owe you a lot.” you said while getting out of his car.

“Don’t sweat it.” He gave you an awkward smile, “Hey umm-” 

“Yeah?” you looked at his eyes.

“Your stuff… I’ll drop them off tomorrow, so you don’t have to go get them.” 

“Oh-” you could feel your eyes forming tears. “Yeah-oh and I’ll be off tomorrow.” He tapped his fingers on the stirring wheel. 

“Oh why?” you didn’t mean to pry, it just came to you naturally.

“Basketball game- you know I got a date.” he smiled momentarily before realizing what he just said. 

“Jeez Harrington, give it a month or two.” you said, referring to your breakup. You forced yourself to crack up a smile. 

   He just looked away, “yeah sure sure…” and then he drove away. 

   It has been about 4 years since you last saw Steve. You left Hawkins as soon as he dropped you off. You couldn't stay there, you tried so hard to be fine with just working with the man you love, and it feels so fake. You broke down crying in front of your parents begging them to let you leave for college early, and seeing how distressed you are, they agreed. 

   You weren’t able to say Goodbye to all of your friends in person so you wrote to them instead. Robin and Nancy were the hardest goodbye, You had gotten so close with them over the years that leaving didn’t feel real, being without them felt unnatural.  

  After getting your diploma from the University you went to, you immediately packed your bags and went back to Hawkins, Indiana, the place you grew up in.

   It was your parents who came and greeted you first as soon as you entered the house. Everyone knew you were coming back so naturally, your parents threw a big welcome back party. They invited all of your friends from when you were still living down there. 

“Oh I missed you both!” you hugged them tightly. 

“We missed you more~” they kissed the temple of your head and hugged you some more. 

   The entire night was spent catching up with everyone, including Nancy and Robin, who actually came from different states just to welcome you. You three talked and talked till the part ended. 

“Do you remember Steve?” Robin asked you with a wide smirk. 

   You covered your face in embarrassment, “oh that was a wild time.” Your face was flushed with red. 

“He was so lost when he learned that you left, he eventually got over that fact after your dad smacked his head for hurting you.” Robin laughed so hard she was almost out of breath. 

“I wish I could say that didn’t happen.” Nancy was trying hard not to spill her drink while laughing with Robin. 

“What even happened to him?” you asked curiously. 

   They both looked at each other and composed themselves, “Steve has a Fiance actually, she was his date at that basketball game-” Robin seemed as if she almost didn’t want to tell you. 

   You looked down to your drink and took a quick mental break, “oh wow- yeah I heard he went there… umm, when did they even meet?” 

   The two of them looked at you with so much pity, “Steve said it was while we were at the back taking our lunch break…” 

   You have had enough, you came back to Hawkins to meet your old friends not to go back to yesteryear. “I think I’ll go to bed early… feel free to use the guestrooms if you want to stay.” you stood up slowly and placed down your cup on the coffee table. You weren’t even sure what happened really, your chest just started to feel tighter when you found out that he has already moved on,  

   You faintly hear them say Goodnight from the distance as you go to your room. It looked pretty much the same, it still had the stripe blue wallpaper and all the posters on your wall, it was just missing your clothes that you took away for college. 

“I feel bad-” Nancy laid her head on the sofa, “I know… Steve I swear, as soon as I see him again.” Both the girls agreed that Steve is an ass. 

“Don’t you feel weird sometimes? That you and your friend share the same ex?” Robin tried to tease Nancy,  “Not really, I only liked the idea of Steve anyway-” 

   Nancy looked at the direction you went before continuing “But she seems genuinely in love with Steve.” 

“Weren’t you guys childhood friends?” Robin asked some more, “Funny thing, She knew she liked Steve before he became King Steve.” Nancy gave a small chuckle.

   Robin gave Nancy a confused look, “Okay- she knew I had a thing for him back in high school, plus, she was with another guy so she didn’t care that I dated her childhood crush.” Nancy gave an explanation. 

“Then the demogorgons happened…” Robin continued, “then the demogorgons happened.” Nancy copied. 

   The following you all ate breakfast together silently, too sleepy to even converse. Your parents left shortly after to attend a golf game with their work friends. Leaving you three to lay around doing nothing all day. 

“Does Steve know I went home?” 

   Your two friends stopped what they were doing to look at you, “Uhm, Dustin probably told him.” you gave Robin a nod and continued eating your 4th bowl of cereal. 

“If you’d like- there’s this game the kids kept babbling about, they said that Steve coaches the baseball team now, and since I’ve also been away, I’m not even sure how true that one is.” Robin just kept talking. 

“Yes, Robin I get it.” you had a wide smirk. It was fun feeling like the old times again, it felt like the responsibilities of adulthood hadn’t caught up with any of you yet.  

   Robin covered her mouth dramatically and gave Nancy a side eye for laughing at her. “Yeah, I don’t think that would be a good idea Robin.” It was almost funny to see their faces calm down. 

“Yeah- totally, we should’t visit your ex boyfriend who found another girl the day after your break-” 

“ROBIN!” Nancy yelled at her, “I think we should leave, I’m sorry about this nutjob beside me-” 

   You have to admit, it was so painful that he found a replacement as soon as you two called it quits. You know how Steve is, he breaks up with someone, then he finds a rebound before falling in love again. That’s how he was supposed to be, he was supposed to be devastated that you two didn’t work out, he was supposed to be calling your home number nonstop, he was supposed to be bothering everyone just to locate where you were, he was supposed to wait for you to come back… he was supposed to be yours, because for holy sake, you were there, you were always there! Ever since you two were kids, you had always been the only one to be by his side, no one else’s, just his. 

   But now, all you just want him to see is that he completely lost the most wonderful girl this world had to offer. So against your better judgment, you agreed to come to one of his games, “I think we should go.” This stopped whatever banter the two were in just moments ago. 

“Uhh- we don’t have to do that… you know that right? Plus! What good will it bring? Nothing! Absolutely nothing!” Nancy tried to be positive while slowly trying to change your mind. 

“It would be good, we were kids then… things are different now.” you forced a smile despite knowing that Nancy and Robin definitely can see right through it. 

“Oh wow-” was all Robin could say with the whole situation. “Hurry with your cereal, we have to get ready.” You stood up to place your bowl in the sink and quickly hurried to get ready. 

   Nancy, the designated driver, looked agitated ever since you’ve been insistent on seeing Steve. “Are you both sure? His fiance might be there.” 

“I’m sure Nance, it’s best to just rip off the band aid right?” you patted her shoulder to reassure her it’s gonna be alright. 

“Yeah- plus, we’re still technically his friend! Why would dingus shoo away his own friends right?” 

    Nancy was still skeptical about the whole thing, but what could she do? Her two friends are insistent on meeting Steve. 

   From the distance you all could hear the loud voices of moms sitting on the bleachers. The game wouldn't even start anytime soon but the place was already packed with older women who looked oddly dressed up for the occasion. You let your eyes roam around so you could spot any familiar faces. And there it was… Steve Harrington. 

   You now could see why the moms are all dolled up for the game, it was for Steve. He has never looked this good. Your breathing became fast paced and your cheeks turned red. There he is, the man you thought you’ve left in the past. 

   Steve saw you three walk in and take a seat, he waved at your direction and smiled widely. “ROBIN! GET OVER HERE!” he yelled from the opposite side of the field. 

“Guys, what should we do?” Robin panicked, “duh- we go there, come on.” you stood up first. Nance held onto your arm just to make sure you behave yourself. 

“It’s been a while guys!” Steve smiled and gave Nancy and Robin a big warm hug, and his eyes landed on yours.  His smile dropped slightly and he looked like he didn’t know what to do, but Steve being Steve, tried to play it off, “Hey stranger.” 

“Hey Steve.” you gave him a tight lipped smile, “it's been a while.” he just nodded at you, “well- I have to go talk to the kids real quick.” he walked away quickly from you three. 

   The entire match Steve keeps on stealing glances at you, part of him doesn’t believe that you’re here, and a part of him couldn't bear to see you again. Steve felt like he wronged you in so many ways and he didn’t want to face his mistakes yet. 

“He’s been looking at you the entire game by the way~” Robin teased.

“He’s not!” 

   They both laughed with how defensive you’ve gotten since seeing Steve in person after all this time. “Oh he is~” Nance took a bite of the corndog you bought her. “I can’t with you two.” 

“I can’t believe you’re actually engaged to King Steve Harrington!” a group of girls gossiped at the back, “I know, It still feels like a dream!” the girl squealed. 

“I told you to go out with him.” One of the girls sneakered, “why didn’t you want to do it at first?” she asked again, “Oh- because he just got done with Nancy Wheeler’s friend- I didn’t want to be the rebound.” the girl, who you think is engaged to Steve, answered. 

   After that little encounter you just started feeling extra down, and because of that, Nancy and Robin cheered on the kids louder than ever- it was mostly Nancy but still, Robin joined in. Their excuse was that they want the girls to know that you’re there for some reason. 

   The game ended with Steve's team winning, “WE ROCK SO HARD!” Robin yelled out since the team was playing against a team from a different state. 

“HEY YOU THREE! GET OVER HERE!” Steve yelled out to you guys, as you all looked in his direction he now is beside a blonde girl with curly hair and a sparkly ring on her finger. 

“Deep breaths.” Nancy warned you both before walking towards Steve. 

“Hey~ I want you all to meet my Fiance.” she reached out her hand for a handshake, “nice to finally meet you all! I’ve heard quite a lot about you three.” she gave a bright smile. 

“Likewise.” Nancy and Robin said. 

“There’s this after party later, please, join us!” she clung harder on Steve's arm while looking at you, clearly trying to agitate you. 

“Sure, we’ll be there.” Robin said. 

“Great! Be there at 6, Steve’s place.” she said before they walked away towards the back. 

   The drive back to your place was full of tension, out of all the girls Steve could go out with, it’s her he ended up with, the complete opposite of his type. “She’s really pretty.” Robin quietly said, “of course you’d think so, you like boo-” before you could finish Robin playfully shoved you.

“She’s right, Robin, you do like boo-” Nancy tried to say. 

“Oh jeez, alright!” Robin covered her face in embarrassment. 

   You got quiet for a moment, “Let’s hit any shopping mall- we all need a major make over.” 

“You look perfectly fine, we don’t need new clothes.” the ever so frugal Nance said. 

“Yeah if we were still in the 80s” you scoffed, “fine…” nancy huffed and turned the car towards where the mall would be. 

   You three spent at least 5 hours in the mall trying to look for a new outfit that would make you all look… better… .As soon as you and your friends left the mall, the sun was already setting and there wouldn’t be enough time to get ready. Nancy insisted on getting ready at her place instead of yours or Robins, arguing how it would be faster from her house to Steve. 

   It took you three, one more hour to finish getting ready, by then, it was already almost 7, and you were fairly certain that it was already over since everyone is already an adult with responsibilities. 

   Walking in though the doors of Steve’s place brought you so many unwanted memories. Those moments when Steve would play his parents' Jukebox and you two would dance in the livingroom, those times when Steve would carry you back to his room after falling asleep to some movie he stole from work that day. If you were going to be honest, it almost made you vomit and walk out of his house. 

“I can’t do this-” Robin noticed how much you were hyperventilating and immediately took you and Nancy to a vacant room. 

“We can’t back out now- I’m pretty sure one of her friends already saw us walk in, and it would just be so embarrassing, and we can never face Hawkins again, and-” 

“Okay stop it, you’re not helping, Robin.” Nancy stopped Robin and her babbling problem. 

   Nancy held you close to her and tried her best to soothe you. “Hiding here won’t do us good.” Nancy whispered in your ear. 

“The memories Nancy… the memories are still here, in my heart, he’s still here.” you could barely form any words. 

“Make this your closure, and move on… trust me on this one.” You nodded and tried your best to look as normal as possible. 

   Despite it being just a celebration for such a minor match, people are surprisingly in a good party mood and no one is getting up to leave. At the corner of your eye, you saw Steve again, and he has his arm around her waist. 

   He noticed you, his eyes landed onto yours first. You could tell how much he was trying not to let his smile fade. Steve gave his fiance a tight squeeze and kissed her temple before walking towards you, Robin, and Nancy. 

“Hey, I’m glad you guys made it.” he was speaking to all of you but his eyes remained locked with yours. 

“Where are your parents, Steve?” Robin pried. 

“Oh- they gave me this house as soon as I got the job, they moved to New York a while back.” Still, his eyes remained locked within yours. 

“Should we just give you two some privacy?” Robin said bluntly, which finally took Steve out of the trance he was just in with you a moment ago. 

   The entire night Steve never left your side. Making excuses that it has been a while since you two had a proper conversation. Of course people noticed, how could they not? Steve has a fiance and then he’s here parading you and introducing you to everyone in that room that you may not know. His fiance and her group of friends were visibly upset but didn’t dare say a word. 

“Hey, so your fiance?” 

   Steve noticed your reluctance to ask him about her, “Oh- she’s pretty cool. Typical relationships you know?” you knew he would say more if he was comfortable so you didn’t press him any further. 

“Since when did you want to stay here in Hawkins and-” you looked around the house before continuing, “have the typical life your parents had?” 

   Steve, being him, pretended to look offended before cracking a big smile, “I’ve always wanted this life.” he smiled, “I’ve always wanted that fresh lawn mown grass, with dogs and many, many kids.”  Steve laughed at himself when he said he wanted many kids.

“You’ve never told me about that, Steve.” You gave him a nudge.

   He looked into your eyes, “because I never wanted to trap you down…”

“Oh Steve…” you both now have this sorrowful look on each of your faces. 

“You’ve always wanted to live in a big city, have a wonderful career… and I can’t give you that.” He took a deep breath, “Hawkins can’t give you that.” 

“I just want- wanted you Steve.” you could feel the tears that are about to fall on your cheeks, and it seems like Steve noticed that too because he looked away from you. 

   You’ve always known that Steve didn’t like seeing you cry, but knowing that he still can’t, made you soft and mad at him at the same time. How dare he make you cry all those years ago, how dare he left you. He shouldn’t have broken your heart if he hates seeing you in this state. 

“I should probably go, Steve.” you tried to smoothly wipe away the few tears that dropped on your cheeks. 

“Oh yeah sure…” 

   You're sure that he didn’t want to face you after the conversation you two just had, so you quickly took your bag that was sitting on a couch nearby and got ready to leave. You felt bad leaving Robin and Nancy behind, but you knew that Steve would tell them that you already left anyway. 

   You let your feet walk you to wherever it pleased. After a long walk, you ended up at the place where you and Steve used to go for your date nights. 

“What can I get you, dear?” the lovely lady asked when you sat down. You liked seeing a familiar place in a town you barely recognize, “your boyfriend is not with you? What a shame.” you could only nod and awkwardly smile, not that you’re agreeing that you and Steve are still together- you just couldn't handle telling her that you and Steve are over, she was practically your second mom, plus she has always been rooting for you and Steve to end up together, and you don’t want her to feel like she needed to be “careful” around you.

“Uhmm, do you guys serve any alcoholic drinks?” 

   She raised her eyebrows, “I won’t serve my dearest any alcohol, sorry dear.” 

“Please, I’m not having a good night.” She just rolled her eyes like a mother and left.

   The place was packed with people celebrating each of their achievements. It was nice seeing others be happy while you’re at your lowest. 

   The lady came back with a vanilla milkshake and banana split, “don’t even think about drinking.” you wanted to protest but she shook her head no and gave you a side hug, “whatever you two are going through, don’t drink because of it, take a warm shower and get some sleep.” 

   She truly was a second mother to you, “Thanks…” 

“Been there, done that. Make good choices, dear.” 

   She left you to yourself the whole night you were there, other than of course, the occasional refill of milkshake and banana split. It was nice being left alone since getting back to Hawkins. Sure you love your friends and family, but it was still nice to have some space. 

   The door bell chimed, indicating that someone just entered the diner. “Oh sweetie! Your girlfriends here!” you heard the sweet lady yell at someone. You can hear her ushering the person to a booth near yours before she left the person alone. 

   Curiosity got ahead of you and you looked at who the person was. 

“Steve?” he was already looking at you when you saw him. His eyes look puffy, as if he’s been crying for a while. 

“Hey.” 

   After any big argument, you two used to just sit in front of each other in silence. There is something about being together that you and Steve find comforting, maybe it’s the years of love you had for one another, maybe it's the trust, or maybe it’s knowing that at the end of the day, you have Steve, and he has you. 

   You both sat in stillness. Neither of you wanted to talk because the both of you are scared of potentially hurting the other with whatever words may come out of your mouths. 

“The milkshake here is pretty good.” you were the first one to speak. 

“You should try the rootbeer, they added that to the menu a couple months ago.” Steve tried his hardest to sound monotone. 

“You’ve been going here have you?” 

   He looked at you and nodded, “the only place in Hawkins to still serve good mac and cheese in a jacket potato.” Steve completely forgot that that's your favorite food of all time. 

   You let out a huff, “no one is beating that around here.” Steve agreed. 

“That night-” he didn’t know if he should even talk about it, but alas, he continued, “ I”m sorry for lashing out on you that night… I just couldn’t- I can’t pretend that we’re both alright.” 

   The flashback of that night played in your head multiple times since it happened, but it never got this painful, you never felt your heart drop since that night. “Steve, we were alright, we were both fine.” it came out rather defensive.

“We weren’t. We were both grieving- we thought we lost Hopper, we lost Billy!” Steve had to stop himself and breathe in, “you were sacred.” he reached out and held your hand that was on top of the table. 

“Steve, I thought I lost you, and you completely made me feel foolish for worrying about you!.” By now, both of you had tears running down your eyes. 

“You never had to worry about me, you know that.” His eyes looked like it was pleading for you to understand. 

“Steve, I was your girlfriend- I will always worry, especially when you get yourself into dangerous situations! I don’t want to lose you Steve!” 

   Loud gusts of wind from outside banged on the window. 

“But I already had.” You pulled your hand away from him and took out a 10 dollar bill and tucked it in under the milkshake glass. You were getting ready to leave, you don’t think you can face more of Steve today. 

“You can’t keep walking away from this.” Steve followed behind you. 

   As soon as you two were outside the diner you faced him, “We can’t keep doing this either- this push and pull, Steve!” 

“You got yourself a girlfriend after we called it quits, you didn’t even try to fight for us!” 

“I was trying to get over you!” 

   There are so many things you wish you could do and say at that moment, “Steve, you’re so cruel… ah sh-” you cussed yourself out. 

“I still love you Harrington. That’s true love.” 

“I came back here hoping that maybe, just maybe, you waited for me.” Drizzle started pouring. 

“How was I supposed to know?” 

   You started walking away again, “I left her-” you stopped in your tracks.

“What? When? Huh?” There were so many questions going through your mind. 

“Earlier, I realized that- it doesn’t matter how much I try to forget about you, I just can't… and she deserves a guy who loves her the way- nevermind.” Steve let out a loud sigh, “I love you too okay?” 

“You don’t mean that…” it came out almost like a question rather than a statement. 

“I do.” Steve almost laughed with how absurd he thought you both sounded. It was almost like you two were back in high school again. “Remember when you didn’t believe that I also liked you when we were just kids.” he walked closer to you. 

   As soon as he was close enough to you, he engulfed you in a big hug, “I was trying not to do this since I saw you.” 

“Steve…” 

“Shh, let me be selfish, even for just a moment.” 

   You let him hug you even tighter this time since it didn’t seem like he had plans on letting you go from his embrace. 

   The rain started to pick up and Steve noticed you shivering, so Steve, being Steve, took off his jacket and wrapped it around you while guiding you to his car. Steve quite literally tucked you in his car so you wouldn't get cold. 

   He was about to start his car when his engine started making weird noises and completely shut off, “No, No, No! It’s out of gas!” 

   Being like this beside him reminded you of the time when his old car also ran out of gas after your date, and you two had no choice but to walk back to your house on foot. 

“We can just stay here for the night, Steve, I’m sure you still have blankets in your trunk right?” Steve nodded and went to grab them. 

   You two had been sitting inside his car for what felt like eternity. Thankfully keeping warm wasn’t an issue, and neither is getting food. 

   You and Steve finally talked about that night properly, it was good to have a proper conversation with him without holding any restraints whatsoever, “did she take the break up well?” 

   Steve gave you a smile, “I’ll handle it tomorrow, right now, let me enjoy having you back.” 

“You’re so selfish, Steve Harrington.” you teased. 

“It’s King Steve Harrington to you.”  he said in this smug expression

Part 1 - Part 2 - Eddie Ending - Steve Ending

    You and Eddie Munson had been dating for a year now. You both met after the mall incident and during one of his campaigns where Dustin attended. Your younger brother, Dustin, didn’t want you to come at first, but ever since what happened with Billy he tried to be understanding with your fear that you might just suddenly lose him.  

   You didn’t know about the Upside down till your brother roped you in the situation by making you help him translate Russian secret spy code with your ex, Steve. It wasn’t easy to work with him to say the least, you two argued and bickered every time the opportunity was handed over, and it especially didn’t make you feel thrilled when you got trapped with him and Dustin’s other friends under the starcourt mall where the evil Russian spies were hiding. 

   You weren’t really close to any of Dustin’s friends, but after what you’ve gone through with them, it was hard not to form a bond. 

   Eddie being still in high school made it hard for you two to meet whenever you please, since you moved away a year ago to pursue your dreams at NYU, leaving Hawkins behind for the meantime. 

   Every chance he gets, Dustin would call you nonstop, telling you to come back home and to never leave for New York ever again, you would just grin on the other end of the line, soaking in the sweetness he still had in him before he turns into an evil teenager who doesn’t talk to their siblings. 

   Your  boyfriend doesn’t call as much as Dustin does because according to him, he’s too busy with his band and campaigns, leaving no space for school. You two had always argued about how he should really focus on his studies so then maybe he could also move to New York, sharing a little apartment together, but he keeps on saying that there are other better things to think about than work, school, and moving in together. It hurts you every time he makes it painfully obvious that you and the relationship he has with you doesn't matter as much as his hobbies and his friends does.

   This made your days feel like living hell, it seemed as though Eddie didn’t really care about you as much as he used to, and everyone can tell. Whenever Robin, or Nancy, calls to check on you, you always avoid the subject about your relationship or anything Eddie in general, you would either change the topic, or hang up on them, leaving you feeling alone when you desperately need someone. You hated knowing that people around you knew about the growing issues in your relationship, you hated feeling transparent for the whole world to see.

   An accident at school left your right arm wrapped in thick cast, making it hard and uncomfortable for you to move around, and on top of that your mental state was slowly declining, nightmares of the night at the mall seems to constantly plague your dreams, as a result, your school was left with no choice but to send you back home for the meantime and rest. Luckyly for you Dustin still has school so you could just be left home alone for long periods of time, and unlucky for you, you had no one to help you move around, your mom has work, and your brother is either with Steve or Eddie. 

“Dustin, what is your obsession with being friends with people I date and used to date?” you’re sitting on your bed while Dustin tries to entertain you. 

“Oh please, they like me better.” 

“Don’t get sassy with me now.” you teased, taking off the hat on his head that he likes to wear. 

   Dustin was about to tackle you and fight to get his hat back, but then you lifted your arm to remind him of the cast, he huffed, clearly annoyed, “I will call Eddie to come over.” and then he stormed off the room. You didn’t think that Dustin was being serious about calling your boyfriend, Eddie, over. After 30 minutes of minding your own business in your room, your bedroom door suddenly opened and Eddie stepped inside with an expression that you can’t read, “hey~” Eddie softly greeted you before sitting on the edge of the bed, “Dustin told me about what happened to your arm.” he pointed at your cast, “How are you these days, sweetheart?” he slowly moved his hand near yours. 

“Hey, Eddie.” You gave him a weak smile wondering what your brother could have said to make your boyfriend visit after telling you for days that he’s busy. 

   He seems to be able to read your mind, his mood slowly shifted and he retreated his hand from yours. “Uhh- Dustin, he said that you needed me for something?” his leg started bouncing, and he hunched over, crossing his arms next to his chest, “It would be great to have my boyfriend around, you know.” 

“I know.” he nodded, avoiding your gaze, “I’ve been staying at school for-” 

“DND, I know, I know.” you cut him off.

   He looked at you with furrowed brows, “No actually, I- I’m getting serious for school, been keeping out of trouble and just been in the library so I could maybe finally graduate this year.”  he spoke softly, “I wanted it to be kind of a surprise.” 

   You felt guilty, your boyfriend is in front of you, telling you why he has been busy, and in your head you thought that he was prioritizing his band and DND over you and his studies, when all along he’s been thinking about you. “Oh… I-.” 

“Don’t get your hopes up, I’m not a graduate just yet.” he let out a chuckle. 

“That’s enough for me Eddie, in my eyes, you’re already a graduate, holding that diploma on that stage, and who knows.” you shrugged, “maybe even a valedictorian.” 

“Now, now, that’s a reach.” Eddie laughed with you, he plopped himself on your bed, getting comfortable real quick. 

   You both spent the night like old times, watching romance films while sitting beside each other on the sofa, his arms wrapped around your shoulders, your head resting on his chest, and then after, you two would lay down beside each other in your room listening to the radio until you both fall asleep in each other's arms. This was Eddie’s way of making it up to you, he can be a romantic when he needs to be and you absolutely love it. You and Dustin would always tell Eddie that if he wasn’t into what he’s into now, people would love him like how people love Steve Harrington, and especially with his charming personality, he definitely could’ve been with the popular kids instead of the “nerds” , to which Eddie would smack yours and your brothers head for even thinking/suggesting that. 

   The next morning you woke up to a sleeping Eddie beside you, his long curly hair falling delicately on your pillows, despite seeing him like this everyday when you both started dating, you never really haven’t gotten used to it yet, everyday with Eddie felt new and thrilling when you two were on good terms… especially when you were still living in Hawkins. 

   A loud knock on the door woke Eddie up, “Eddie, please drop me off of school today!” Dustin yelled from the other side of the closed door. 

“YOU WOKE ME UP HENDERSON!” he ruffled his hair making it look messy. 

   You threw a leather jacket on your boyfriend’s head, “Go, Dustin gets cranky in the morning.” You patted Eddie’s shoulder and plopped yourself back to bed. “Yeah I should probably head out…” 

   After the two left, you decided that a change of scenery would do you good. Your fingers dialed Robin’s home phone, “Who is this?” Robin said with a sleepy voice. 

“Hey, It’s me, uhhh, is it alright if I drop by Family Video later?” 

“You didn’t have to ask me-” 

“I know, I know… I just wanted to give you a heads up- so you could maybe give Steve a heads up.” you whispered the last part of your sentence. 

“After the incident I thought you two would’ve made up?” Robin’s voice now filled with curiosity. 

“Yeah well… we didn’t really talk after it you know?” 

“But why?” 

“I don’t know Robin…” 

“Okay fine, need a ride?”

“No, I’ll walk.” 

   Robin hummed in response and hung up after you didn’t respond back. Getting ready to see your friend while knowing your ex is there made you feel a knot in your stomach, it's not even the good kind, it’s the kind of feeling that makes you feel brave enough to jump from a tall building just so you didn’t have to face this person. 

“Welcome to Family Video-” as soon as you heard this, the voice also stopped abruptly, “Uh- what are you doing here?” Steve questioned, his gaze fixated on you, “I’m here for Robin, don’t wet your pants.” your snarky remark earned you an eye roll from Steve, “Robin! Henderson is here!” he yelled and left you standing alone, leaving to get back to his work. 

   You stood awkwardly in the middle of the store while waiting for Robin, and it didn’t help that your ex was drilling holes in your head with his sharp gaze. 10 more minutes have passed and your friend still hasn't greeted you, “Uh Steve is she alright?” regretting what you said as soon as you said it.

   Steve stared at you for a solid minute before responding with a shrug “Just go in there, Keith wouldn’t mind.” 

“But I’m not an employee.” 

   Steve blinked a few more times, “He doesn’t mind pretty customers." 

“Stop flirting with my friends dingus!” Robin appeared behind you.

“Robin OMG it's you!!!”  you hugged her tightly, “hello to you too.” Robin hugged you back, but it only came as an awkward tap on your lower back, “Glad to have you back.” she gave you a soft smile, “Glad to be back.” 

   Robin didn’t end up working at all that day, she spent all day talking and gossiping with you. Your friend absolutely loved telling you how unsuccessful Steve is with his love life, and she is absolutely thrilled to find out that you and Eddie finally spent the night together like old times, although you can see it in her eyes how she was still a bit doubtful of Eddie, especially with how bad the relationship was when you moved to New York. 

“I know, but then Dustin had to ruin the perfect moment.” You rolled your eyes, just remembering how Dustin interrupted your time with your boyfriend, Eddie. 

“That little dingus! I’ll give him a proper beating, I promise!”

   Night time came quickly which left Steve no choice but to drop you off, since he didn’t want you to walk alone at night with one arm in a cast, he said it made you vulnerable to attacks. You were sitting in the backseat of the car while Robin took the passenger seat, despite you begging for Robin to sit beside you at the back, she didn’t want to, stating that Steve is a scaredy cat, especially at night and he needs some cool person to sit beside him. 

“Hey Henderson, do you want to be Steve’s date tomorrow for the basketball game?” Robin faced you, a wide grin appearing on her face. 

“Why? Don’t you have so many girlfriends?” you teased Steve.

“I don’t want to take you Henderson, the air is much better to take to that game than being with you… but to answer your question… no, no one really made me feel interested enough to take them.” 

“Yeah sure Steve, I’ll still come, who knows maybe I’ll get to see Eddie at school."

   You saw Robin look at Steve teasingly, “How does it feel to have all your exes have a better relationship than you?” 

   Steve glared at her, “Robin, not now.” 

“Whatever you say dude.” Robin raised both her arms, “yeah I’ll join you two.” 

“You just want to see that awful singer.” 

“OMG you still like her?” 

“What! No no I don’t!- fine, yes, but that's besides the point! She is a really amazing singer!” 

“Who?” you raised your eyebrows, “no one in Hawkins possibly thinks she’s a great singer, Nashville is nothing Robin.” you shook your head.

“Says everyone! Everyone in Hawkins loves her!” 

“Hawkins pride am I right?” you tried to lighten up the mood.

“Robin, you know when someone is off tune right? You’re in a band right?” Robin looked at you, not sure what you’re trying to say, “uh yes?” she responded.

“So shouldn’t you know when someone is extremely off tune?” you tried to play innocent while asking her that question. 

“Leave her alone, Henderson.” Steve added, “thank you! Finally someone is on my side!” Robin praised.

“Robin is not that good so she wouldn’t know.” Steve continued, a wide smirk forming on his lips, “I’m so over this.” Robin rolled her eyes and rested her head on the window beside her, utterly defeated. 

   Steve dropped you off first at your place, and promised to pick you up the following day at exactly 5pm for the game at Hawkins high. 

  That night you kept waking up from your nightmares, in it, you would see Billy and his somber expression, he would always be looking at Max, almost trying to reach for her, and then seconds later he would die, like how he did in real life. You’ve always wondered if Dustin also had dreams of this night, it pained you for not being able to be there for your baby brother when he desperately needed you, especially after knowing that since his best friend disappeared, you weren’t there, you focused more on your crush on Steve despite him being out of reach at that time since he was dating Nancy Wheeler. 

   It’s not often, but, there would also be nightmares of your boyfriend, Eddie, being involved in this, him being hurt, or worse, dead. The only thing that's keeping yourself sane is the fact that according to the kids, they believe that whatever is doing this, is probably already dead. 

   As soon as you wake up, a sharp pain can be felt on your head, it feels like someone is banging your skull on the wall.

“Are you still alive there?” your mom  yelled out for you from the other side of your door. 

   You held your hand to your head “yes mom!” 

   Dustin burst through your door, “do you want to join the campaign later?” 

“Woah! aren't you supposed to be at school?” 

“Its 3pm, I got off school an hour ago-” 

“3 PM?!” 

“Yes.” 

   You groaned, not wanting to get up anytime soon, “And- Steveishere!” Dustin yelled before storming out of my room, “what?!” I followed Dustin to the living room to see a very relaxed Steve sitting on the couch and laughing at my mothers jokes. 

“What are you doing here so early?” 

“Ah good morning snoring monster!” Steve exclaimed, “YOU WATCHED ME SLEEP?!” 

“What? No! I heard you snore before when we were dating, you were shaking the entire room with that snore of yours.” he teased.

   You couldn’t help but groan and storm back to your room to get dressed. 

   You could hear someone open your bedroom door while you put on your makeup. “Here, your mom said you haven’t eaten anything yet.” Steve placed a bowl of mac and cheese your mom made. 

“Thanks…” 

   You pointed on your bed, hinting for Steve to wait for you there. “You don’t have to get dolled up for a basketball game, you know that right?” , you glared at Steve, “I’m doing this just in case I see Eddie later.” He nodded, “does your arm still hurt?” ,you took a glance on your castrated arm, “No, just uncomfortable. 

Steve suddenly got quiet, “Do you feel like something bad is about to happen?” Steve spoke up, you looked back at him, confused for a moment, “what-? No-yes- yes sometimes I feel like it’s not the end, not yet…” he nodded, it didn’t seem like he wanted this conversation to end just yet but didn’t press on further. 

“I’m sorry about not reaching out… I just, you already seemed happy with your life, and I didn’t think that there's a space for me to be in it.” 

“Steve… “ you turned your head towards him. 

“No, no we don’t need to be mushy now.” you could hear him silently let out a chuckle. “Whatever you say, Hair Harrington.” 

   He looked up at you, looking a bit betrayed that you reminded him of the “dark” days, according to him. “Just get ready Henderson.” he flashed you a smile before leaving your room once again. 

   The drive to Hawkins High had been an emotional rollercoaster for you, who would’ve thought that there would be a day where you would be back in Steve’s passenger seat, driving back to the place where you two spent your most time in, the place where you both fell in love. 

“Ah sh-! There’s already so many people here! The game doesn’t even start till at least 7 pm!”  Steve complained.

“We can stay here for a while if you don’t want to follow a huge crowd going in.” 

   He looked at you and smiled, “have you and Eddie talked since he went to school the other day?” 

“He probably called, but I was at Family Video, remember?” 

“Ah yeah, yeah.” he turned off his car and rolled the window down for some air. 

“Have you also been having bad dreams?” you asked the boy beside you, he gave you this worried look before nodding his head, “not all the time, but it happens, mostly had been about losing all of you out of nowhere.” Steve admitted, you knew he hated being vulnerable so you changed the conversation. 

“I’m thinking of dropping out next year.” 

This seemed to get him to stop thinking for a moment and just stared at you in amusement, “WAIT WHAT?! NO YOU CAN’T!” 

“Yes Steve, I can.” You gave him a weak smile, “But your dreams!” He emphasized each and every word.

“You have dreams, please don’t think of staying stuck in this place, don’t even think about it.”  

“Steve… It’s so hard to leave everyone I know here, and plus, Jonathan and Nancy didn’t even go to college.” 

“They both will soon enough… and in my opinion, you should beat them to that diploma.”  Steve is a lot of things, but being a really good friend and a personal cheerleader is what he’s best at. 

   An hour and half passed by and you two decide that maybe it's time to go inside and meet up with Robin before the game starts. “Do you think I’ll see Eddie?” you asked Steve, “I don’t think so, they’re all probably in the drama room, you know… DnD.” 

“How come you know where they play?” you raised your eyebrows at him, “If you only knew how many times I went there to remind Dustin and the others that it’s time to go home.” Steve shakes his head. 

“You really took care of Dusty hm?” 

“I like to keep my promises, Henderson.” Steve looked you in the eyes, smiling widely as soon as he saw that you were looking back at him.

  Voices in the auditorium speakers and the cheers got louder, “we should probably hurry inside!” You screamed, making sure that Steve could hear you. 

“WELCOME TO HAWKINS HIGH CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!” Everyone was on their feet cheering and clapping, all the basketball players were standing near the cheerleaders and their coaches, probably discussing something to help win the game. 

“Is that Lucas?!” you didn’t know that Lucas, THE Lucas Sinclair was in the basketball team, so seeing him down there, in their uniforms shocked you. 

“Yeah, anddddd he learned from the best.” Steve was looking smugly and pointing to himself. 

“Oh please, you can barely get a single shot against Billy!” 

   The look on Steve’s face was priceless, he definitely wasn’t expecting for you to remember that, “At least I look cool playing” 

“Ah yes, while you lose.” 

   Steve ignored you for the rest of the night even when Hawkins high won. 

“Henderson! Steve!” Robin came running to the both of you, “WE WON! WE WON!” 

“ROBIN! YOU PLAYED WONDERFULLY WITH YOUR BAND!” 

   The two of you jumped around and celebrated the win of  the Hawkins high basketball team, “You two met yesterday, why are you two acting as if you haven't met in years?” Steve complained, “because she’s literally my best friend in the entire world and I miss her.” Robin answered blankly as if it's the most obvious answer and the stupidest question someone could’ve asked. 

“Steve, you're just jealous that I’m the favorite!” you teased him.

“Don’t inflate your ego Henderson.” Steve said blankly. 

   More cheers or rather, screams came from the basketball team, they were all lifting Lucas to the air, excited with the win, “PARTY AT MY HOUSE!” one of them yelled, probably Jason. All the other basketball players cheered even louder when Jason said that the party was gonna be at his place. 

“Please don’t tell me you acted like that back then Steve….” the scene that unfolded in front of you a minute ago left you feeling embarrassed on how guys act, feeling extremely thankful that your Eddie was different… kind off… okay, maybe not that different- but still!

“Why are you asking me? You were always there for my wins.” 

“What do you mean? You never won a championship.” you innocently shrugged. 

“You- never mind… go say hello to Eddie and then I’m taking you home- unless you want to hitch a ride with him.” 

“Yeah yeah I’ll go, give me a moment.” 

   It was hard for you to find where they were, because paired with the fact that you’re only trying to remember where the Drama room was, the hallways also had no lights lit up, and it made it quite hard for you to navigate around the school. 

“EDDIE! DUSTIN!” you started screaming repeatedly.

   With no success you turned around and was about to leave. A faint chime of a clock can be heard a hallway away from where you were at. ‘Did they really add a clock here?’ you thought to yourself. You continued to ignore the chimes and kept walking to where Steve and Robin is, it did make you think that it was a bit weird that all of a sudden there were no one around but at the same time, it was also plausible, people could be hurrying up to go to Jason’s party to celebrate. 

“BILLY NO!” a loud yell can be heard behind you, it sounded like Max so you turned around, but no one was there, “MAX! ARE YOU THERE!” 

   No one responded, “MAX I’M SERIOUS! WHERE ARE YOU!” Still, no one responded. A tap on your shoulder brought you back to reality, “are you alright?” Robin asked, “what? Uh- yeah, yeah I’m fine.” you brushed off what you just heard, you were thinking that maybe, just maybe it's just a hallucination caused by your exhaustion. 

“Lover girl, you’re in luck!” Robin exclaimed, “Why?” you asked.

“Eddie’s van is still here, which means you can just wait by his van.” an overly enthusiastic Robin said while walking with you towards the parking lot. 

   A distant cheer of boys was heard coming out from the school, “BEST CAMPAIGN EVER!” You turned around and saw your brother with his friends, their smiles reaching from ear to ear. 

“Dustin!” you waved your raised hand around, trying to get his attention. As soon as he saw you he ran up to you and gave you a hug, “Yeah Yeah I know I’m the best.” you joked around, “so… tell me where Eddie is.” Dustin dropped his arms around you and rolled his eyes, “I see, you care more about him…” ,your brother pouted and huffed.

“What no!” You defended yourself, “Fine, Eddie is in his van right now.” Dustin answered.

“Okay! Thanks, Love you!” you rushed towards where Eddie’s van was at, excited to finally see your boyfriend again. 

   Unfortunately, before you could even get to where his van was, it suddenly started driving, but not before he could leave, you saw a girl dressed in a cheerleader’s uniform in his passenger seat. 

   You just felt crushed, you didn’t know what to think, all you wanted to do was for the ground to swallow you whole. The man you thought would be with you in New York in a few months now has a girl sitting in his passenger seat, what’s even worse is that he’s cheating on you right under your brother’s nose, making a fool of you two. 

   Your body just crumbled, thankfully Steve and Robin were nearby and were able to get you out of your trance before you could completely fall apart. 

“Hey, why are you staring at an empty parking space?” Robin asked, she’s not sure if she should start joking about you looking high or if she should just shut up. “Where’s Eddie?” she asked again. 

   You were able to keep it all in until then, upon hearing his name, you just broke down, “He left… he has- he has a cheerleader in his passenger seat.” You tried to say in between sobs. “What?!” Steve said in shock, “Who?” they were trying to get something out of you so they would know what to do and who to confront on your behalf.

“I don’t know… some blonde cheerleader with bangs…” It was hard to see through a moving vehicle, so even seeing that was honestly impressive. 

   Robin let out a sigh, “okay… so- it’s the 80s… everyone has that hair- OW!” Steve hit Robin on the head, “Not the time Robin!” Steve said angrily.

“I’m sorry! I’m just trying to narrow it down, dingus!” Robin said defensively. You completely broke down and hugged Steve, letting your tears pour, and not caring if it’s staining Steve’s shirt, after all he’s rich and probably has at least 20 more pairs of a single shirt. 

“I just want to go home please…” you whispered.

“You don’t even want to look for Eddie and yell at him!” Robin asked in shock.

“Not tonight Robin…” 

   Steve guided you to where his car was parked, he was careful and made sure that you didn’t accidentally bump your head. 

   The next morning came in a blur. You got home past out last night and could barely remember what happened before you got back to your soft bed and blankets. But one thing is for sure, Eddie had a girl in his van. You sat up and hissed, a really bad headache was coming and you desperately needed something in your system. 

   Whispers could be heard in Dustin's room, and it bothered you so much you just had to get in there and make him shut up, “hey Dustin, please keep it down, My head hurts and I’m royally fucked.” You didn’t even bother to open up your eyes, scared that any form of harsh light could make your headache 10 times worse. 

“Uhh-” you heard your brother nutter, “Eddie is in trouble…” you heard a girl’s voice say which made you open your eyes. 

“Wait what?” you were trying to process what you’re seeing right now and what you just heard, Dustin and Max were sitting on his floor looking absolutely terrified. “Something happened in Eddie’s trailer and the police are in there right now…” Max said, your eyes widened with shock, “Is Eddie alright?” was all you could say, both of them shrugged and stood up to comfort you. 

   Dustin decided that it’s best to pack both of your clothes just in case something big is about to happen, an apocalypse whatnot, Max stayed by your side, making sure you were alright and eating. You are extremely grateful for the two kids, out of everyone they have always been your favorite. 

   Dustin hurried you both out the front door, practically running towards where Family video is located. 

“Welcome to Family- why are you three here man.” Steve let out a sigh, “This is very important, We think something may have happened with Eddie in his trailer last night…” 

   This seems to get Robin’s attention “What do you mean?”  

“It’s not in the news yet but Chrissy is dead in his trailer…” Max finally spoke up, “CHRISSY?!” you all said in unison.

“Chrissy?! Who is that, why is she in Eddie’s trailer?!” you had so many questions going through your head right now. 

“Hey, remember last  night? You said you saw a girl in his passenger seat?” Steve asked you, “Uh yeah?” you muttered, “I think that was Chrissy- but what is she even doing in there?” 

   Dustin shook his head in annoyance, “do you people really forgot about Eddie and his little business?” 

“What? No! Chrissy won’t do drugs! Nor does she!” Steve defended.

   Max pushed all of you aside  and went to the computer, “What are you doing?” Steve asked firmly. “I’m trying to find where Eddie might be, he might need our help… whatever happened there isn’t normal-” she suddenly faced all of you once more “The lights were flickering last night, and that dog I fed? Yeah he keeps barking in Eddie’s trailer's direction.” 

“So… the Mindflayer?” Steve asked.

“No, the mindflayer- this isn’t how it attacks…” Dustin responded quickly. 

   Steve protested and got mad at the two kids for using the computer at Family Video, saying that it’s too busy and they should do this another day instead. After a while of searching for a clue as to where Eddie might be, you guys finally got a lead. Dustin wasted no time waiting for all of you, he just rushed towards Steve’s car which left Steve no choice but to follow, disregarding his employment, along with Robin. 

“Where are we going exactly?” Robin said from the back seat, “To a cabin where Eddie is.”  Dustin said in a ‘duh’ tone, “I see, but are we even sure he’s in there? Plus your sister probably doesn’t wanna see the guy right now.” 

“What why?” Dustin asked, “Were you even listening? Eddie took Chrissy to his place at night! What else was there to think of? Eddie is a cheating ass!” Robin rambled. 

   You tried to tone out all their voices just so you can get some rest before arriving at where Dustin and Max think Eddie is. 

   You briefly heard Steve in your sleep say something before you could feel someone rush out of the car, “Wake up Henderson.” You felt a pair of hands shake you awake, “UH STEVE?!” yelled Dustin, “COMING!” 

“You better rush out there Steve, Dustin is pretty impatient.” Robin shrugged, “Why are you still here anyway?” Steve questioned her, Robin just rolled her eyes and got out of the car, leaving you two alone. 

“I’m awake Steve, you can go out now…I’ll be following right behind.” 

“You don’t have to go in there if you don’t want to.” 

“Steve, I need to, I have to find out what happened last night- as much as I don’t want to…”

   You could see in Steve’s side of the window Max walking up to the car to get both of your attention, “Loverbirds- ehem… ex loverbirds, we need you!” 

“We should head out-” 

“Deffinetly.” Steve got out of the car so fast, not wanting to be seen by Eddie especially since you two are- well kind of close right now. 

   A few more attempts of knocking and no one answering, Dustin got impatient and walked up  to the side of the house to where a boat was, “EDDIE IT’S US! JUST US!” 

“This won’t work…” 

“Steve, sit your cocky ass down-”  

   Suddenly, the tarp on top of the boat lifted and in comes Eddie with a broken glass pointing to Steve’s neck, “EDDIE THAT’S A FRIEND!” Everyone yelled. 

   You slowly walked near Eddie and Steve, trying to maybe calm down Eddie so he’ll get off of Steve, “Eddie- let Steve go please…” You politely say, Dustin, Max, and Robin also went quiet, “Steve is a friend, we’re here to help you Eddie…” you raised your good hand and slowly took the broken glass off of Eddie’s hand, “that’s good… that’s good.” 

“I didn’t kill her-” was all Eddie could say before he broke down crying. 

“But what was she doing in your trailer?” you questioned your boyfriend. 

“She was there to buy you know… substance- she said she needed something to help her with her nightmares….” 

   This seemed to catch Max’s attention, “she’s been having nightmares too?” Max said. 

“What do you mean too?” Robin asked. 

"You also have been having nightmares?” 

“Wait hold on… you two have been having nightmares?” Dustin asked this time, you looked at Steve, remembering the conversation you had before, “Steve didn’t you have nightmares too?” 

“Bad dreams.” he corrected you, “Not nightmares- and not too bad, it just has its days."

   You looked over at Max, wanting to ask her something but you blacked out. 

   You woke up a few hours later in Steve’s backseat, you looked up and saw Dustin and Steve in front of the car, “Uh what happened?” you groaned, the two boys looked at you and smiled, “You passed out, and don’t worry about Eddie right now, he’s safe out there.” Steve said, you sat up and looked around, “why are we parked at a random person’s house? Where is Max and Robin?” 

“Robin is with Nancy, and Max is getting some more information about why Chrissy went to the school’s counselor.” 

   You nodded and leaned back, you three patiently waiting for Max’s return, “so Steve~” your brother broke the silence in the car, “What’s up with you and that look you gave Nancy earlier?” 

“Oh shut up Dustin.” Steve rolled his eyes and quickly glimpsed at you through the mirror, “Nothing is going on with me and Nancy- she’s not my type anymore anyway.” Steve whispered the last part to himself but Dustin caught on, despite wanting to say something, Dustin just looked at the both of you and smirked, understanding what Steve meant. 

   After a few more minutes of waiting in silence, you three saw Max running out of the house while holding a key, “GO! GO! GO!” Max yelled which made Steve start speeding away as soon as Max got in his car.   

“Where are we even going?” You asked, “Hawkins High.” Max said, “but why?” 

   Max just looked at you and patted your hand “we’ll go and try to find out why both Chrissy and Fred started going to Ms.Kelly.” 

“But that’s breaking and entering!” you yelled out, “Yeah no shit.” Max responded with a smirk. 

   The drive to Hawkins High didn’t take too long, it was mostly the silence that made it feel longer than it should’ve been. “I go first, and when we see someone, run! Understand?” Steve looked at all of you, but mostly Dustin, because he knew that your brother would put his life on the line for Eddie, after all the man is practically family. 

   You all walked cautiously, making sure you weren’t making any sound that could alert potential security guards around Hawkin High. 

   Steve was successful enough to be able to pry open the lock of the school and let you all in, “Max lead the way.” 

   Max started to lead you three to the guidance counselor's room, the hallways were dark and it reminded you of what you heard the night before, how you heard Max scream, since then,  your mind has been plagued by what it all could mean. 

“There I found their files!” Max rushed out the room holding two files and ushered you all to come with her. 

   She placed the files on the table and started reading them, “Look, they both started having nightmares not too long after their… death…” Max whispered the last part, “does that mean Henderson and I will die?” she asked. 

“No, I doubt it, I have always had these nightmares since I was in New York, and I haven’t died yet.” you shrugged. “But what if whatever is killing them can’t reach you to kill, that’s why you’re still alive?” your brother looked like he was going to choke on his tears anytime soon. 

“Dustin, I’m not going to die.” you firmly said. 

~False Life~

Word count: 1298 Note: I haven’t had any motivation to write as of late, but I do have a story that I’m writing, I just unfortunately can’t seem to find the words to finish that one. So here, a short story to make it up:)) STEVE HARRINGTON X F!READER  Summary: after everything going through many things, you suddenly woke up from a “trance”. Warning: mild angst 

 The day you and Steve found out that you were pregnant was the best day of both of your lives. Steve couldn’t help but tell the good news immediately to his friends and family. Everyone congratulated the both of you, even throwing a party for the new addition to the family. 

   Despite still not being wed, you two acted as though you have been married for 50 plus years, and everyone in your lives loved that about you two. 

‘Little Harrington’ is what the kids, especially Dustin, have been calling the fetus growing in your belly, and it has been going on for a while that you eventually just accepted it as the nickname of the little one. 

   Things have been going great until your 2nd trimester. It seemed to have developed for only a week, suddenly you started being distant to Steve, you started to wear oversized hoodies, and suddenly started to pretend as though you weren’t pregnant by denying it whenever someone congratulated you. 

   Steve obviously caught on, he isn’t dense, he could feel every flinch whenever he tried to touch your belly, he saw how your face would scrunch up as if you seemed disgusted whenever you looked at your growing belly. He noticed everything, yet he said nothing. Your friends and families could also tell how much you hated the pregnancy, you looked dreadful, but of course you would deny it, telling them that you’re just tired and didn’t feel like doing anything at all. 

   You spent most of your days alone, after what happened a few years ago, everyone tried to move on, Steve got a job, and the kids  tried to focus on their studies, just to fill in the void where El once filled. Seeing as everyone was busy doing their own things, pregnancy made it 10 times harder for you, after all you had no one to talk to, so you just stared at the nursery room full of toys for the baby- yours and Steve’s baby.  

   Your third trimester came sooner than what you were expecting, now, you can finally get a due date, November 4, 1989 , El’s birthday. Everyone is overwhelmed to say the least, sure they’re happy for you and the birth of your baby, but at the same time you can’t help but feel the grief flowing in the air around you, everyone just misses El dearly and it’s hard for everyone to go through something this important without El. 

November 4 1989

   You were rushed to the hospital at exactly 5 in the morning. Your contractions have been ongoing since the afternoon of the previous day, but it still wasn't painful so you didn’t go to the hospital, nor did you tell anyone about it. 

   Since getting to the hospital, you have been scared, it’s just now dawning on you how serious this is, and on top of that Steve seems to be a bit distracted, his body is facing yours, his hands holding yours, but his eyes looked blank- no, they looked scared. Steve kept saying how he should call Robin, Nancy, or Jonathan despite them being far away right now. To say that this  is the first time you’ve seen Steve panic like this is an understatement, Steve, your Steve has never acted like this before, he seems to know everything all the time, and now that he doesn’t scares you. 

“Sir, you can wait outside.” a nurse said, trying to get Steve’s attention, you were about to give birth and no one except for the doctors and nurses should be in the delivery room with the mom. 

   It took a while for Steve to hear what was going on around you two, especially what the nurses were saying, and when it finally went through to him, he rushed out of that room in an instant. 

   To say that giving birth was painful was an understatement, it was pure torment, here you are, giving birth to a child you don’t even want and here you are,  already sacrificing your life for the little one. 

   You could feel every inch of your body convulse, how the sweat dripped from your forehead to your neck, how places in your body were stretching in ways you didn’t even know was possible. It was just painful, so painful. 

“Congratulations! It’s a girl!” the doctor yelled out, you could see them clean your baby on the side of your room, and you can see them write down information about your baby. They have also allowed Steve to get back in the room. 

   How foolish, you thought. The moment Steve walked back in he immediately went to check your kid, he was wearing a big smile while he watched the doctor clean your baby girl. Everyone in that room seems to be busy, busy making sure your girl is alright, and they all completely ignored you, they didn’t even place the blanket on you properly. You just felt as if everyone was against you at that moment. 

   One by one, the kids slowly started to come to visit you and the baby, they were all deciding what to name your baby girl, Max said it should be Sarah because she wants her to grow up just like Steve, her dad, a brave man, some like Mike and Will wanted to name the girl Jane, kind of a tribute to El who was born on the same day, but just years ago, thankfully, Dustin and Lucas thought that I should be the one to pick the baby girl’s name. 

   You and Steve settled for Jean,  Jean Stefani Harrington. Everyone was satisfied at the end. Jean because it’s almost like Jane but the letters after J are rambled, Stefani, for Steve, and of course Harrington. 

  It has been hard for a while- loving your baby after trying to hide the fact that you’re pregnant for a while was hard, and with Steve not being able to get his leave approved you just had been alone for most days, your parents were helpful, but at the end of the day, they also have to go home, and Steve’s parents haven't come to visit yet. 

   Being alone for a long time finally took a toll on you. Everyone was happy for you, but no one was really there for you, everyone supported you, but no one showed up when you needed someone to be there with you. 

   So one  day, one random day you just snapped, you packed your things and headed straight for the bus stop. You called Steve before you left, telling him that you really need help with Jean, by the sound of it, he’s on his way back home. 

   As you got close to the end of Hawkins, you suddenly heard it, you heard his voice again, the voice of the man you just defeated, Vecna, he was telling you to turn around- so you did. 

“I thought we lost you!” Robin gave you a hug, you felt something wet trickle down your nose so you wiped it off… blood, you looked around, you were in Squawk, “What am I doing here?!” panic lacing your voice, “what do you mean?” Nancy questioned you. 

“I was just-” you started looking around frantically “Hey, hey, it’s alright, I’m here, you’re strong did you know that?” You are now in Steve’s embrace, the same Steve who gave you your baby girl, “How?” you asked, “Vecna had you in a trance for a day, and no one seemed to know how to get you out… I miss you so much.”
