anyways my infinitely better idea for the plot of tears of the kingdom and that i hypothesized within the first like thirty minutes of playing the game was that rauru and ganondorf were going to have been revealed to have worked together to create their own kingdom of gerudo+zonai and went to war with the kingdom of hyrule+sheikah and that was the first great calamity and it was a giant mecha war with two highly technological factions and explains the simultaneous existence of both. also potentially explains why ganon was able to possess the sheikah tech in the first place, if the sheikah used the zonai “goop” to make their own tech. there is a lot in the games to point to this and anyways. it was not this and i was so fucking mad
I dig this. The Imprisoning War being a giant mecha war would also explain why the old king of Hyrule banned all the Sheikah tech after it was over. "No more crazy wars; i mean it!"
It raises a bunch of other questions: Why does Rauru call himself the king of Hyrule? What made the Gerudo stop working with the Zonai?
Yes yes YES that was something I had also specifically considered in this theory. It would be the catalyst for Hyrule to say ENOUGH of this shit especially bc Hyrule would have then defeated and likely annexed the Zonai people. Everyone bury your evil ass technology. But also would explain why Zonai history started to decay and get erased - they were the losers, the “barbaric” tribe that sided with Ganondorf.
Except except exCEPT hear me out, Hyrule did not either realize or like that it was a ZONAI who did this final, betraying blow on Ganondorf to save everyone, the story got twisted and warped through the history by its victors, and so then HYRULE is the one who sealed Ganondorf, obviously, why would it be anyone else? Who are the Zonai, exactly? And the tears are actually the tears of a kingdom erased by time and the corrupt kingdom botw was JUST starting to show hyrule to be.
And then what if when Ganondorf is brought back he goes and teaches the Yiga how to use Zonai tech?? That’s how they’re so good at using it, it would make him seem more involved and PRESENT in Hyrule, and finally give a better reason for Kohga to be so loyal to him…
And then there could be drama between the ancient sages and Rauru’s spirit in those post-temple boss cutscenes, giving us more insight into their personalities and ahhhhh

Been reading some good Breath of the Wild fanfiction lately and I notice there's a HUGE problem in the game's lore that I haven't seen anybody tackle as of yet. Specifically;
WHY ARE THE YIGA A THING STILL?
I don't mean why are they enemies in the game, I'm talking strictly within the bounds of that specific version of Hyrule's lore. Hear me out here.
The Yiga were originally composed of Sheikah that splintered off after a previous (and so far as we know) unnamed King of Hyrule declared that the Sheikah needed to abandon their advanced technology after they'd used it to help save the entire kingdom. Their stated goal was to revenge themselves on the Hylian royal family (and by extension Hyrule's central government) and they were gonna use Ganon to do so.
But they already accomplished that...
Calamity Ganon wiped out Hyrule. Sure, Zelda sealed him away but he DID everything the Yiga wanted him to do.
There is no central government for Hyrule anymore. The last living blood member of the Hylian royal family is PERFECTLY content not being a princess anymore after the trauma and abuse she endured as a result of the expectations thrust upon her combined with a complete lack of support from anyone except the other Champions. Hell, Link would probably be fine leaving them alone if they did the same to him.
So why are they still causing trouble? They WON. Do... do you think they just don't realize they friggin' won? I mean it's no secret that their leader is a cartoonish buffoon.
Are they continuing a war they already won just because they're too stupid to realize that they won?
I think that after all that time separated from the Sheikah they’ve become their own people, and maybe it’s a matter of pride? Or they really are one big murderous family lead by uncle Kohga and they want to keep doing their thing in the desert
As for Kohga I think he’s taking his new role as Link’s arch nemesis too seriously to notice that he won lmao
