One part of the Athenide AU I find really interesting is how the Romans treat Perse. Which usually leads them to treating her like shit. Which is fun, especially when paired with her fading shortly after the Trojan War. However, since I have different plans for Perse's death, I'm thinking of putting my own spin on things. My idea is to make the Roman version of Loyalty a massive "Fuck You" to the Greeks. Though not in the way you might think.
Initially, Perseleia was similar to Aphrodite. Fidelia was just another name she went by. There wasn't any distinction between her Greek and Roman aspects. However, that changed when the 12th Legion sacked Athens and stole her most sacred statue, the Athenide Eusebeia, along with the Athena Parthenos.
The Romans destroyed the Parthenos and used its enchanted gold to make more demigod weapons. (Though Minerva couldn't care less.) However, the Eusebeia was chained up and sealed away in a cavern beneath Rome. This is when Fidelia became distinct from her Greek aspect.
To the Romans, Fidelia is the daughter of Venus, instead of Minerva. Despite this, there is nothing loving about her. She is a stern woman who personifies absolute loyalty to Rome. She is the punisher of deserters, traitors, and rebels. If your loyalty is in question, she will cut you down without mercy. Demigods and legacies aren't given any special treatment. In Fidelia's eyes, they're no different from any other soldier.
See what I'm getting at? For the Greeks, Perse was beloved for her heart. She's the mother of Dionysus, the protector of women and children. Heck, one of her epithets is Mother of Demigods. However, the Romans, stripped all of that away. They saw the ruthlessness she displayed against Troy during the Trojan War and decided that was what they wanted. A merciless goddess who would punish anyone that wasn't loyal to Rome.
This is why Minerva despises Camp Jupiter so much. The Romans bastardized her daughter and that precise legion is responsible for it. Reyna is trying her best to fix it, but it's difficult when the CJ believes there isn't anything wrong about their treatment of Loyalty. With her biggest obstacles being pre-amnesia Jason and Octavian. (Though the former was only following tradition. His time with the Greeks is a huge wake-up call.)
