So episode twelve of Fourever You: The Sun from Another Star is saying this is the guy who needs a protector?
And this is the protector?
Wait. Let me try that again. This is the boy who needs protection?
And this is the boy who is protecting him?
Hold on. I'm still not doing this right. It's not supposed to be a question. I'm trying to make a statement. --- He needs protection.
And this is his protector.
This Blue Boy needs a guard dog.
And this Black Brooder is, well, he is some type of dog . . .
But will he be good enough for the job?
I know what Fourever You is telling me about the way people perceive these two boys because Dao's friends, except wild North, are hesitate around Arthit when he needs to speak to Dao away from the group.
But we all know who is in charge here!
And I think Arthit likes it that way.
Both of these boys have walls around them. They are guarded even with the people they love, and they don't share a lot with their friends.
Yet now Arthit personally knows all the shitty things Dao's ex did to him, and Dao knows how much grief Arthit carries from his mother's death. They are sharing the worst parts of their lives with the other. And they don't hate it.
All the friends in this show are great, but even Arthit's own friends think he is a problem for good reasons! But when Blue Boy Fah fretted over Arthit's possible treatment of Dao on their trip, Black Brooder Phoon was quick to correct him that Dao is not weak like he appears.
Dao isn't the soft kid that people would like to paint him.
And he isn't scared of Arthit, his pet snake, or his fast driving.
In fact, because of Arthit's odd way of helping Dao deal with Kram, Dao no longer needs Emma, the friend he has had since he was a child.
But Dao is also helping our Black Brooder heal from his past.
Which is an interesting point in this story filled with ghosts since these two boys aren't being haunting by actual ghosts, but by grief for what they lost.
So in the same episode that Meen wakes up to a world that no longer includes Do,
These two helped each other move past moments that have kept that frozen in time. Meen had to let go of her ghost, and so did these two. And the only way they could finally let them go is because they were there to support each other.
And perhaps it's because Dao reminds Arthit of his artist English-speaking mother, but now they are asking for help from each other, and instead of the immediate response being a quick "no," they are willing to give each other just a bit more each time as they begin to cross the barriers that previously divided them.
Which makes Arthit's comments about him being a terrible person, but Kram being worse a hurtful parallel since he immediately followed that with the advice that Dao "next time, [should] pick a better husband."
Because the similarities don't end there for these two Black Brooders who party, gamble, fight, take money from friends over petty bets, briefly had the same hairstyle, and come with their own warning sign.
Dao listed all the reasons he fell in love with Kram's kindness like Kram picking him up and dropping him off at home every day, bringing him food, and making sure he didn't get soaked in the rain.
But Arthit has never been kind to Dao . . . or at least that's what he says because he only took Dao for coffee in episode eleven because it was late at night, and he only took Dao home after studying in episode twelve because he didn't want to study anymore, and they live right next to each other.
He's not trying to court Dao. He doesn't even like Dao! He just likes his taste in music, his hair color, and his sass.
And even if he did like Dao, he isn't good enough for him . . . or at least that's what everyone thinks, including himself.
But, then again, Dao has already seen the heavy emotions Arthit desperately tries to bury under layers of indifference, so if the Blue Boy who can see ghosts sees the good in him, then maybe Arthit, who has spent so long hearing he isn't good enough for anything, may start to realize that being seen, truly seen, is not the first step toward becoming someone who could be; it is the moment he realizes he already is.
