if you need to do something with your car (ex: adjust the AC) you should be able to do it based off of touch and minimal sight; without knobs and buttons for tactile orientation youre ... staring at an ipad while driving? awesome trend we've started

Touch buttons on anything are a plague on humanity. There's no advantage, it's just tech bros fellating themselves. It just makes it way easier to press a button by accident.

there's a reason for this. A consolidated infotainment system is harder to repair. when there is something wrong with the AC controls, your radio, or what have you, you either have to replace the whole infotainment system (THOUSANDS of dollars even for an older car) or you have to go to the dealership to have them reprogram it. I don't have to tell you how this makes car manufacturers more money. Cars have always been very repairable with ample replacement parts from both first and third party vendors, but we are heading into a future where that won't be the case.
