16 frame shooting star animation. January 2022-September 2024 Needlepoint
Frames from my shooting star gif. 16 frames total. Each frame is 8x6.5 inches on a 10” mesh. Designed and animated in photoshop and needlepointed by me. I started drafting this 1/14/22 and finished animating it 9/25/24. It took approximately two years and eight months to finish. This is one of the largest projects I’ve ever worked on and I’m very happy with how it turned out.
I am once again begging you to get your hands on physical media and/or save your fave stuff OFFLINE.

"There's no hope for the future." And that's how they felt during the Atomic Age, during the World Wars, during the Enlightenment Revolutions, during thr plagues, during the Viking raids, during the fall of Rome.
Yet, we persisted.

Since our founding, we’ve worked hard to ensure that Solarpunk Magazine pays authors in line with professional industry standards for genre literature. As we enter our fifth year, we’re proud to announce that we’re increasing our author rates across the board.
Beginning with Issue #25, which publishes in January 2026:
Fiction: increases from 8 cents per word to 10 cents per word
Poetry: increases from $40 to $50 per poem
Nonfiction: increases from $75 to $100 per article
We know how much labor, heart, and hope goes into creating the kinds of stories that push culture forward. These new rates are part of our ongoing effort to honor that work and support the writers shaping solarpunk’s evolving landscape.
People cheering the USA for having taken Maduro out of Venezuela are fucking idiots, because they’ve basically skipped a shitload of international laws, bombed the place, and barged into another country with zero legitimate authority. And the thing is, that sets a precedent where they can see themselves — and believe themselves — entitled to meddle in any country, under whatever excuse, and do whatever the hell they want. Like, do you even understand how dangerous that is, or do we need to make you a PowerPoint so it finally sinks in?
Edit: I’m adding this because I’ve seen a lot of people pointing out that this isn’t the first time the USA has done something like this and I know that. When I talk about precedent, I’m talking about contemporary precedents of direct aggression against countries within the American continent, which hadn’t happened for decades. And that is a direct threat to all the governments in Latin America that currently dissent from US policies, and that could now be at risk if that shithole of a country decides, on a whim, that it feels like getting rid of them. All of you who are applauding this: Salvador Allende is watching you from the grave.
May the whole world soon unite in struggle against the heinous and blood-soaked US empire

Something on my mind is how there was a fucking year and a half of post-9/11 consent-manufacturing before we invaded Iraq. With Venezuela, there hasn't been any of that. There have been some paranoid jabs on campaign trails, a little bit of half-hearted news media shit, internet rumors, all that, there's been blowing up random civilians on the water. But there hasn't been anywhere near the same degree of justification that was needed for past illegal wars. They're just doing it. There's no illusion of consent. They don't feel that's necessary. They don't care about the consequences. This is a nightmare.
I just want to let you guys know Cornell's entire library is open access (no permissions required) and there are (shocker) many books...
Thank you!
Today is the day Savita Halappanavar died due to pro-life policies in Ireland. It’s been 13 years since her death. She should be 44.
On October 21 at just 17 weeks pregnant, Savita went to hospital for what would later be determined to be a miscarriage.
After examinations found the miscarriage was inevitable and her water had broken, Savita asked for an abortion but because the fetus still had a heartbeat it was illegal for doctors to perform one, being told ‘this is a Catholic country.’
Savita developed sepsis within days of going to hospital and on the 28th of October died from cardiac arrest. She was just 31.
Her death sparked outrage around the world and in Ireland. In December of 2018, Irish voters passed the Thirty-Sixth Amendment of the Constitution, which repealed the Eighth Amendment (a law which prohibited abortion) and empowered the Oireachtas parliament to make abortion legal.
I want to take this moment to remember her, and all the lives lost to anti-abortion laws around the world.
May Savita find peace.
Editor Tonya Moore Collecting Donations for Jamaica Hurricane Relief
Hurricane Melissa has left Jamaica devastated, with homes flattened, farms flo… Tonya Moore needs your support for Help Jamaica Recover from
Words from our poetry editor, Tonya:
Hurricane Melissa has left Jamaica devastated, with homes flattened, farms flooded, and thousands of people suddenly without shelter or livelihoods. The western side of the island—Montego Bay, Mandeville, and St. Elizabeth—has been especially hard hit, but the destruction is truly island-wide. Hospitals and clinics have suffered severe damage, making emergency health care and critical medical supplies desperately needed. Right now, the most urgent needs are food, clean water, shelter, first aid, and emergency medical care for those affected by this disaster.
Jamaica is my homeland. I spent the first 18 years of my life there, and my love for the island and its people runs deep. I remember climbing Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios, playing on the beaches, and enjoying the vibrant culture that makes Jamaica so special. It breaks my heart to see so many beautiful places and communities in ruins. Tourism has always been vital for Jamaica, and the road to recovery will be long for both the people and the landmarks that make the island unique.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to supportjamaica.gov to help the Jamaican Government’s rescue and disaster relief efforts. I will post daily updates, including screenshots of funds sent and any photos I receive from the island, so you can see exactly how your support is making a difference. Please consider giving what you can—every contribution helps Jamaica rebuild and brings hope to those who need it most.
