i think there is a difference between a knowingly flawed character and a thematically uncomfortable character and knowing the difference is half the battle
knowingly flawed character: this character has traits that the author deliberately put in to show they have nuance and aren't perfect as a person. this will put them at odds with some readers and endear them to others, depending on them as people, and that's good!
thematically uncomfortable character: oh boy the author has some Beliefs
This also applies if you headcanon him as transmasc. He strikes me as someone who got gender euphoria from seeing his name cited as "Ryland, Grace" in an academic context and decided to go by it full-time.

i'm genuinely curious on why fanart as an artform does not seem to cause the sheer amount of discourse that fanfiction does, not that there isn't discourse within fanart circles (whitewashing, art style theft, ai art etc) but that i feel like people are less likely to argue about weather or not fanart is capable of even being good in the same way people constantly do with fanfiction all the damn time.
i've seen both of these kind of posts numerous times, and for some reason posts comparing fanart to renaissance paintings never seem to cause any discourse about how it's disrespectful to compare fanart to traditional art, where as whenever someone compares fanfiction to traditional literature it usually results in people going "um no you only think fanfiction because you don't read actual books, and you clearly don't respect writing as a skill if you think fanfiction is comparable to published fiction" and i'm genuinely curious on what the difference because they both seem like the same joke to me.

I did some napkin math on the kilowatts it takes to run a human when you convert over from calories and 2000 calories a day is 2.326 kWh, or roughly a Jackery HomePower 3000 a day, and when you look at the stored energy in a typical person, i.e. stored as fat, I at least was kind of horrified and wondered why people aren't near constantly on fire, and then remembered that we're technically combustion engine, so we kind of are, begrudgingly, just not in a way that harms us.
Hi, I'm Ko, and I'm in financial limbo on about 3 different fronts! I'm waiting for some people to get THEIR shit together so I can get MY shit together, but in the meantime, things still cost money.
Aside from my rather expensive dental care situation that I have to put on pause, there's smaller things I still need to deal with. These being:
- Flea medicine for my cats
- My OWN medications!
The flea meds cost about 60 bucks for the two cats, while my meds cost about 160 -- luckily this is the cost for multiple months worth at a time, at least for one of them. I really don't want to have to medically detransition even for a little while so this is very high priority for me right now.
