My phone speaker stops working and gets really crunchy ten minutes later home button also making crunchy noises
I made the mistake of letting Jean-Luc Picard onto my phone (I was sending a friend tng clips)
Guess who's home button no longer works at all..
So I think my phone just breaks when guys named Jean appear on my phone
(The fact that there names are vaguely similar is not lost on me)

I almost forgot to mention: this woman came into the penguin enclosure with a KESTREL??? I said “oh my god is that an American Kestrel?” and she said “Yes! She was outside doing raptor education for the kids, but she doesn’t like to get rained on.”
#she was watching the penguins with what I will anthropomorphically project as skepticism
kestrel: i hate rained on!!
human: here is birds in water
kestrel: ......no.....

Once again putting that degree to good use
Doing graphic design for fun should be a sign of a serious underlying mental issue

STAR TREK The Conscience of the King | S01 E13
I love the “captain’s log” mechanism in Star Trek as a method for time skips and exposition.
I am, however, devastated that we never got an episode where any captain’s voiceover is strained and slow. very precise about the events they’re describing. While the screen itself is showing the most batshit insane events and making it clear that the captain is trying VERY HARD to keep everyone involved out of a court martial.
tags via @catilinas: #[guy who has seen fewer than ten episodes of star trek ever] i think the captain's log exposition has given the public unrealistic #expectations about what is recorded in historical ships' logbooks
I'm still in the early phases of my Star Trek obsession (maybe 200 episodes out of the ~996 episodes that exist, depending on how you count; somewhere around 20%), but having also read ships' logbooks, I can confirm that this is absolutely true—ST captain's logs (as we see in famous Captain Sisko confessional voiceovers in DS9, for example) set very unrealistic expectations for historical ships' logbooks. Instead, I think ST crew logs mirror a totally different type of 18th/19th century maritime writing: private journals and letters home. The tone we see in Star Trek logbook voiceovers is very much like the type of prose we get from, e.g. James Fitzjames in both his letters home to his family from the Franklin Expedition, and in his earlier Mediterranean journal. And Fitz isn't an outlier—Sisko's more confessional style really sounds to me like the way James Clark Ross writes when he's not expecting a wide audience; both Sisko and Ross sound formal in nearly all contexts, but both take on an attitude of diplomacy and promotion of the empire in their public speech. Star Trek logs operate in a strange liminal ground between public and private; they're not truly for public consumption. And yet they do seem to be made entirely available to Starfleet Command.
All this to say yes please let's see more insane use of crew logs as dramatic devices!
Wonder how that strategy pans out

Every time I see that last pic, I have to note that the funniest line is the one immediately after the highlight
in modern day it's very easy to look at batman and be like "WHAT was this guy doing. Insane choice. You do NOT have to fight crime this way" but then you learn literally anything about the US in 1900-1939 and you're like "oh a batman terrifying people would have actually for real improved the situation"
Every time I rewatch TOS I am reminded that Kirk and Spock do, in fact, be looking at each other like that

Straw Hats Egghead Arc
Luffy | Zoro
I love the outfit Luffy wears in the canon, but since I played around with the other designs, I wanted to include him as well. I swapped their boots because I had a good laugh at the cosplayers who couldn't walk in them—thanks for your sacrifice.
He has tan lines; the guy never takes off those pants and spends the whole day in the sun.
Zoro is wearing a tight shirt and baggy pants; I think that suits him better than the canon bodysuit. Zoro had a black jacket; he lost it somewhere.
Nami | Ussop
Nami in her bodysuit, but slightly lengthened. Also with a jacket and some socks. Is she wearing a side ponytail because wearing her hair down wouldn't look right with the large, wide collar of her outfit? Yes.
I’ve got Usopp in yellow because my brain just can't process him wearing green like in the canon. He’s wearing baggy shorts and a jacket, plus a fitted top that leaves a bit of skin exposed—just for a touch of flirtatiousness, haha
Futuristic glasses because I love them.
Sanji | Chopper
Female Sanji, because my biggest headcanon about Sanji is that she is a trans woman. She’s wearing a retro-futuristic dress, and I kept her floral vest. She's wearing shorts underneath, because, you know—kicks.
Chopper keeps his boots—one of the perks of not having ankles. His post-time-skip appearance changed, making him look less like a ball with legs and more like a pre-adolescent.
They each have about three colors in their outfits. When I finished, I realized that Nami and Chopper share colors... Oops.
Robin | Franky
Robin was being flirtatious as always, but just like with Nami, I lengthened her bodysuit.
Franky is a concept, okay? Leave my boy alone. Is Franky the only one without a swimsuit? Not in my house.
Brook | Jinbe
I don't know how to draw skeletons or fish-people. Nothing more to say, and this will not be discussed again. Thank you.
I wanted Jinbe to have something that was a mix of traditional and futuristic... I did the best I could. And it shares the same print as Sanji (Lol I just realized that I didn't).

this is the happiest day of my life
Too soon
65 million years…
Don’t worry, guys. Carl is clearly a brachiosaurus, which lived during the Jurassic period. (And before anyone says our lil’ boy Steve is a velociraptor and therefore puts our comic in the late cretaceous, aka the time of the comet–that lil guy could easily be a compsognathus or a caudipteryx, both Jurassic-era species of small theropod dinosaurs. So the light getting bigger every night is going to pass by harmlessly, and Steve and Carl can go on enjoying the stars together until they die of old age, since Carl has very few natural predators at his size and I bet he’ll protect Steve, if he needs it (though small, fast and carnivorous as Steve is, he probably won’t).
So it’s all good!!
That entire response explaining how these two characters didn’t die a fiery death but instead lived long and happy lives literally made my day.
I was ready to be heartbroken again. Thank you for making it happy after all.
