My fucking fun activity called July!

I had a busy day yesterday - visited a friend, we ate sushi and chilled, and later I had to attend a celebration. It was very nice and I went home fairly early but I was soooo tired. I slept so fucking good, oh my god.

And today I mostly rested. Had a call with my bestie, it was super fun. We planned a hangout, so end of the summer is gonna be packed with friends for me. I'm very excited!

Lately I'm kinda hooked on the little games on Hank Green's website, they're a really nice treat I've been looking forward to playing each day.

truly some people have no genre savviness whatsoever. A girl came back from the dead the other day and fresh out of the grave she laughed and laughed and lay down on the grass nearby to watch the sky, dirt still under her nails. I asked her if she’s sad about anything and she asked me why she should be. I asked her if she’s perhaps worried she’s a shadow of who she used to be and she said that if she is a shadow she is a joyous one, and anyway whoever she was she is her, now, and that’s enough. I inquired about revenge, about unfinished business, about what had filled her with the incessant need to claw her way out from beneath but she just said she’s here to live. I told her about ghosts, about zombies, tried to explain to her how her options lie between horror and tragedy but she just said if those are the stories meant for her then she’ll make another one. I said “isn’t it terribly lonely how in your triumph over death nobody was here to greet you?” and she just looked at me funny and said “what do you mean? The whole world was here, waiting”. Some people, I tell you.

this has officially gone to its new home which means i can post about it without ruining the surprise! baby's first quilt! it fought me a bit, and it definitely fought my 50 year old sears kenmore sewing machine until i bought a walking foot, but i'm sooo happy with how it turned out!!

it's based on the cats on cats pattern from birch fabrics, although i just drew out the pattern to suit the size i needed rather than actually using the pattern. i made it 50"x60" so although it's a baby blanket, it won't be outgrown!

still have leftover batting so maybe a smaller quilt for myself is in the future.....

Hitachi: youd be surprised to know that they kinda leaned into the mechanical side of things with IPSN-style mechs, especially considering how many pilots already want to fuck- imean pilot these mechs. each pilot gets a complementary magic wand, for old times sake. reliablility and robustness are key.

Google: these mechs are finicky and of iffy quality, but theyre clean and efficient-looking, with even a built in cleaning system to clean out the cockpit whenif the pilot turns to gory mush. all mechs come with a free virtual assistant copilot, though both the abilities and consent of the VA are... questionable, to say the least. they just cant say no, though! (even if they tried)

Nintendo: these mechs are shiny, flashy, colorful, and arguably half-decent. youd be easily forgiven for falling for their PR department, though; those people are good at their job. nintendos are often starter mechs for greenhorn pilots, and their relatively intuitive controls make them both easy to pilot... and easy to take down.

Ferrari: the fanciest mechs out there: sleek, flashy, and actually pretty good. theyre no hitachi in reliability, often being one-trick ponies, but those one tricks can often turn the tide of battle. their proprietory repair systems, however, make maintenance somehow even more expensive than the mech itself, restricting these to only the upper echelons: military brass, technolords, the like.

Whenever they gave us one of those "read through ALL the instructions before you begin!" trick assignments in school where the steps lead you on an increasingly ridiculous goose chase until the final one tells you to just put your name on the paper and turn it in without doing anything else, I was always like, "Okay, but what's the point? Surely the REAL world won't be anything like this." And then I grew up and discovered that not only is the real world often exactly like that, some people won't even read the first line of the instructions even if they make perfect sense. And these people are called "co-workers"

I only had one instructor do this. But, I had heard it was a thing that sometimes happened in the world and, when I saw that first line, I was suspicious and did as I was instructed. When I got up to turn in my paper 5 minutes into class and was told I could leave early since I was done, everyone else in the class look up and glared at me. I smiled, waved and said "I'll see you in the cafeteria when you get done."

They were all pretty disgusted when they showed up.

When we went back to that class, he was grinning. He said "Do you know why I gave you that test?" There was some general no, not really kind of mumbling.

He said, "You are learning how to do lab work that is going to be critical for the lives of your patients. You need to remember this and ALWAYS read the whole SOP before you start an assay. And you should to read along with it when you are running the assay. Our memories aren't always as good as we think they are. Reading and following the instructions for this work is vital."

I don't think he was wrong about that.

And ten do the thing WHILE following the written instructions again #It may feel overwhelming reading the first time. Because what the fuck is this or that step #But when doing it with understanding what to do next is much easyer then

I have animated the grill for no discernable reason. Though I was originally going to do more but I think this is about as far as I'll go, at least for the time being.

I don't really know why I animated them as if they're game sprites, just a weird habit of mine I guess.
