War-related whump

Content: male whumpee, war, beating, POW, guns, emotional whump

Battle wounds are treated with distinct compassion and respect. But wounds received in captivity, or dealt as "punishment", even by the enemy, not so much.

Surrounded by the enemy after the battle, soldier refusing to be taken prisoner. Fighting hard, taking several enemies down, only to get beaten down, chest hitting the sod. Over. And over. Each time they're slower and weaker getting up.

Holding their injuries and grimacing as they're surrounded by the enemy, gritting their teeth because they know where this is headed

Guy with his hands up high walking forward into the enemy's barracks, rifle poking into his shoulder blades from behind, hyperventilating, lowering his head as they get up with exclamations and surround him.

"it's a [degrading term for captive's side]!" "More than that. He's the Tank. You know, the guy we've been trying to get this whole time?" Jabs the gun into his back painfully.

On his knees, hands on his head as captors circle the "Tank", jeering and beating him with the butts of their rifles. He tucks in with a flinch, grimaces and raises his arms again. He knows he'll be shot if he does anything else.

New prisoner staggering, shoved into the holding cell to see faces lighting up in a mixture of despair and hope at seeing their hero in here with them

Leader whump. Dragged in front of the bars where the other prisoners can see, to be whipped with a belt. "This is what happens when you act like him."

A supposed "victor". Standing on the battlefield, chest heaving, watching the enemy retreat. And all they can see is the wailing heaps of their friends, dying, for what now seems like a distant, unecessary, unimportant victory, in the face of this.

Friends celebrating after a win, smiling over mugs of beer while they pretend they don't miss the three other friendly faces their group once had.

Whumpee wakes up to a sword at their throat-- they close their eyes to just imagine this isn't happening for one more second

Getting dragged by the feet over sticks and stones, making gashes up whumpee's back and arms as they squirm and cry out

Whumpee getting tied to a tree and having to stay standing because there's thorns or obstacles at the bottom.

Trying to maintain their dignity by lifting their chin as they rest their head against the tree they're tied to

When that pose forces the bob of their throat as they swallow to be very visible (bonus: looking side to side to keep from crying)

A torch sparking and flickering as it's held a little too close to whumpee's face, whumpee pulling back as far as they can and squinting to protect their eyes

Tied up and bargaining "you look like you're having a little trouble with that fire. Sure would be nice if there was someone around that knew how to do that. Too bad the only ranger here is tied up."

Brigands. Whumpee gets caught, beaten up, manhandled, groped all over for valuables, left stripped and bloody in the woods

Army stuff--scouting and getting CAPTURED BY THE ENEMY (honestly this was my childhood favorite). That sinking feeling as whumpee's face mashes into pine needles under the knee of a soldier

Being up a tree hunting or hiding out, and whumpee's enemy camps below and instead of coming up after them, they start to chop the tree down. Cue a yelling match of "get down!" "Only if you promise my safety!" "Nope!" Chop.

Whumpee snorted. It was an insane thing to say, for one, but furthermore, "No, you wouldn't."

"What?"

“Are you okay? Come here…”

“No, no, stay down. I’ll handle it.”

“Where were you? I was worried sick.”

“I made you some soup and tea…”

“Ssh… It’s okay…”

“You’ll freeze to death in that. Come, I have a change of clothes for you.”

“You look pale. When’s the last time you ate?”

“The ground doesn’t look very comfortable. Come on, put your head in my lap.”

“You’re freezing. Take my jacket.”

“Stay down, you idiot. You’re done for the day.”

“I got you.”

“Come on, let’s get you in bed.”

“What happened to you? You’re dripping! Did you not dress for the rain?”

“I got you flowers to aid in your recovery.”

“You look good like this. All careless and comfy…”

“I’m not going anywhere.”

“Hey… wait up… I feel dizzy.”

“You don't look very well. When did you last drink water?”

“Come on, let’s get you in the shade…”

“Let’s take a break before you have to take a permanent break.”

“How long have you been out here in the sun?”

“We’re almost out of water…”

“Whoa, your skin is really warm. Are you feeling okay?”

“Easy there. Sorry, didn’t mean to startle you, but I found you passed out on the trail and dragged you in the shade. Help is on the way. You okay?”

“Shut up and let me help you.”

“We need some help over there! Someone collapsed!”

Leon recovering from his injuries. Broken bones meant a long vacation but this isn't the vacation that he and his wife had in mind.

Writing about an authoritarian theocracy did not make Margaret Atwood an authoritarian theocrat.

Writing about adultery did not make Leo Tolstoy an adulterer.

Writing about a ghost did not make Toni Morrison a ghost.

Writing about a murderer did not make Fyodor Dostoevsky a murderer.

Writing about a teenage addict did not make Isabel Allende a teenage addict.

Writing about dragons and ice zombies did not make George R.R. Martin either of those things.

Writing about rich heiresses, socially awkward bachelors, and cougar widows did not make Jane Austen any of those things.

Writing about people who can control earthquakes did not make N.K. Jemisin able to control earthquakes.

Writing about your favorite characters and/or ships in situations that you choose does not make you a bad person.

Authors are allowed to write morally ambiguous characters.

Authors are allowed to write downright despicable characters - and guess what they are even allowed to make despicable characters charismatic and likeble and the protagonists of their stories if they wish - because absolute monsters exist only under the bed.

It is not up to the author to spoonfeed the readers about morality and Yes I know this character did a bad thing and I am going going to show it in the story and make other characters call them out of it and– Bullshit.

The authors should be able to write what they want without having thousands of people jumping and their throats claiming to know them, their ideas and their morality based on what they write.
