(this came out of a conversation in the comments on a previous post about an author threatening to stop updating a fic because of lack of engagement)

So there’s this idea that fic writers should write for themselves and not care too much about stats or engagement,

and i totally get the sentiment behind that. if writing becomes entirely about stats and external validation, something important does get lost - creative freedom and joy, conviction in your own writing

but i also think:

“i write for myself, but i post for others.”

because posting fic is not only self-expression. it’s social. ao3 is called an archive, but emotionally it often functions as a community space.

people post for connection, for participation, for others to bear witness to their pain and trauma and grief,

and i don’t think most people are asking to be admired so much as acknowledged. there’s something deeply human about wanting another person to encounter something that mattered to you and go:

“ok, yeah, I see what you were trying to say. I see you.”

especially because fanfic is often people processing very real feelings through fictional characters at a safe distance, one step removed,

and then uploading that deeply personal thing into a shared archive and hoping somebody else might connect with it.

And i think that’s why it hurts so much when you summon up the courage and post a fic into the void and you get nothing back,

and then it’s like,

also on the topic of alan being a new avian. he's also really bad at controlling his body language past his actual body so he very often will threat posture things he's unfamiliar with/scared by. this makes him a terrible liar and also makes it very clear something is weird about him but king isn't one to pry.

he also keeps threat posturing king for a while when he finds out he almost killed the cg (his flock) but the two eventually learn to get along! alan is pretty forgiving considering he Also did that

* He found out Eridians have no gender rules.

* Students brought him mineral sample. After he stopped crying he said he loves show-and-tell game. Human naming conventions oddly literal.

* I told him Earthsun grew bright.

* I took him up atop atmosphere bypass elevator to look at stars.

* He woke up from nap and found me still with him. I did not wait on his chest; he says I am heavy like “elephant” and he “couldn’t breathe.” I laid my arm over him instead, kept him close, feeling safe. He said “cuddle” was warm.

* Before class he heard younglings singing.

* He has plants in house from sprouts on ship. Plant grew “bud.”

* Engineers got seawater temperature right. He took off shoes and stood in water, sighing. He didn’t care about pants getting damp. Cried until shirt was also damp. Humans very endlessly wet.

* He missed “Doritos.”

* Adrian helped food scientists make taumoeba dried paste. Made it crunchy after heating. We fused it into triangle form. Told him it was Tauritos. That made him laugh-cry. Laugh-cry is rare and precious.

* He remembered Eridians have no gender rules.

* We made him celebration outfit. Used metals he calls pretty. He can see frequencies named “colorful” and “shiny.” These make humans happiest.

* I gave him hug when he wasn’t expecting it. Easier to hug close now with exosuit. Hug when Grace sitting down so he does not fall over.

when ponk announced that an ad break was coming, it cut to that godzilla (?) ad that was playing all the time on twitch, but a few seconds in it "glitched" back to a flashback scene in minecraft before the ad finished playing, and ponk didn't acknowledge that anything had happened

when seapeekay went afk in the egg room and left his webcam on so chat could see his chair, and then his character started moving on its' own towards the egg

when tubbo found tommy's tower and immediately disconnected from the server, shut off his webcam, and turned off the stream

when ant was killed during the red banquet and the stream ended and people had to rush to other povs to find out what happened afterwards instead of just him respawning and continuing from there

that one was SICK i can't believe i forgot about it

I have so much love for this ship, I can't even properly explain why I adore them as a couple...

But BRO, again, there was a lot of people on tik tok asking me "Erm actually we (95% it was a toxic (not a regular funbun shipper, you're good chams) funbun shipper) have EVIDENCE for our ship, is there any evidence for your ship??"

Is it a crime scene where you need to look for some fucking evidence...?
